God I hope The Game Chasers(?) don't do any more cameos. Painfully unfunny making nuts jokes nine year olds would make. And that remark about men lining up around a giant cereal bowl with their nuts hanging over the side, really? Is he a child or just gay because that was about as unfunny as you can get, it was unpleasant to listen to. Unfortunately really brought the whole episode down IMO.
@Eddyinjapan
@Eddyinjapan 9 жыл бұрын
I second that Harperlarp, men in their 40's making disgusting penis and gay jokes just doesn't sit right for the more mature and light heated tone Game sack usually has. I know they probably did it with good intentions but it came across a little homophobic as well, i hope they don't take game sack in that direction again.

Fantastic show guys. So glad you added Urusei Yatsura, dear my friends (That's what it says on the games title screen too). It's one of my all time favourite Mega CD games that I bought back in the day and still own now. Did you guys get the poster with yours?

Game Sack Good stuff. I take it you kept it nice and neat in the case :) I sure did but then again that's just me. By the way, have you ever played Dina Island on the Saturn? It's like Urusei Yatsura on the Mega CD and again it's by Game Arts but it's far more impressive. I've said this about 14 times now but Game Sack is the best show on KZbin. Great, well thought out and consistent content makes this show stand above the rest. The Game Chasers cameo at the end was hilarious. I also like how you got to stick in another review there Dave. I wonder what Joe thought about that. Officially, you gave 6 reviews to his 5 :) Cheers guys.

Hi guys! Ane-san is actually a game about Bosozoku girls, sometimes called "yankii" (yes, japanized yankee) girls (aka, biker chicks). Bosozoku is a very japanese biker subculture that ran rampant for most of the 80's and 90's (and is actually still around in a more toned-down fashion) and obviously, wasn't limited to girls. Wikipedia actually has a decent page on this. Motorcycles customized in ridiculous fashion, huge pompadours, terrible perms, garish jackets and matching parachute pants are pretty common-place and they're portrayed a lot in older anime (Great Teacher Onizuka anyone? He started out in a Bosozoku gang.) The one-on-one faceoffs are probably two characters going for staring/insult contests, which is kinda typical too :P The game actually looks pretty fun! Thank you for showcasing it!
@remka2000
@remka2000 Жыл бұрын
This subculture is slowly dying of old age, but still well alive in some parts of Japan. Come visit Shōnan and if you are lucky you might stumble upon huge bands of hundreds of bikers cruising slowly (and noisily) in the countryside at night 😊. I recommend Tsujidō or maybe Chigasaki.

The Adventure of Little Ralph is one of my favorite Japan-only games and is one I covered in my import game series. If you play the game, make sure to go into the settings and change the difficulty from easy to normal. Doing this will make the game significantly more challenging--everything is a one-hit kill, and there are three extra levels, arguably the best in the game, as well as the true ending.

Quick question for Dave: How did you find out about Twinkle Tale? I'd never heard of it before this piece, and it sure looks like it would be right up my alley... but you mentioned that you'd imported it awhile back. Also: I loved the ending. Guest features like that are always great, and I laughed a LOT at this one. I get that some might have been put off by the humor, but as a fan of everyone involved... I really enjoyed it.
@tetrisdave
@tetrisdave 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, I found out about Twinkle Tale by reading different gaming forums on import games. Reading peoples reviews of import games and especially finding out which games can be played easily knowing little to no Japanese. I used to have a lot of time on my hands years ago and would just scour the internet.

Urusei Yatsura Dear My Friends seems to be geared to a love/relations type of game from the text I've read in the video. It kind of reminds me of Tenchi to some extent but with a different comical plot. I've always imported and still do today. Some games that interest me will never see the light of day here in the states. Alot of my imported games are from the Super Famicon; mostly rpg's, Dreamcast, PSX and of course PS2/3. Also have an imported Vita, Wii and others. You need to discuss rpg's left in Japan. I have quite a bit. :>

The story does have a lot more to do with than just relationships. A kid sinks your house into the ground, people disappear, lots of people get physically hurt, etc.

Holy crap. Urusei Yatsura - Dear My Friends is in this episode! Not sure if it was because of my suggestion, but wow... To be honest, I'm surprised it was able to be reviewed at all. Also: 2:06 That's Fujinami Ryuunosuke, and that dude is actually a girl that's forced to dress like a man by her father. 2:58 That's Kotatsu Neko. As you can tell, I'm very familiar with the series. It's extremely funny, imo. I own the Mega CD game, but I didn't bother playing much of it due to it all being in Japanese. I need to try it out again, though, because I had no idea it actually had mini games in it.

I discovered Game Sack a couple weeks ago by searching for Data East games. I love it! I've since watched every episode and gotten a couple of my friends to watch too. Keep making awesome videos! More Random game episodes would be cool, just talk about whatever games you want. I've even tracked down a copy of musha after seeing it featured on Game Sack. Man that point&click game looks good, those visuals are far above Snatcher, Monkey Island and Rise of the Dragon. It looks more like a Saturn/PC game than something running on a 16 bit console. Full voice acting and 3 different minigames on top of that? That's amazing. I'd actually rate it alongside King's Quest 5 (1990) and Myst as one of the most visually impressive point clicks of the early 90s as far as pushing the limits of the hardware goes.

I'd highly recommend picking up Gurume Sentai Barayarou and Ghost Chaser Densei _(although it doesn't even hold a candle to the arcade version)_ if you enjoy beat em ups. On the flipside, if you are willing to buy imports of games that were released in the US, you can get some excellent deals compared to buying their US counterparts. The Megaman X series is a great example, as those are super expensive on Ebay now but the japanese versions arent nearly as bad.

David White Isometric is a necessity for having a tactical battle system, which is why besides strategy games many old computer RPGs used isometric view for battles as well. But outside of turn based and real time with pause games isometric sucks, it has no place in a platformer or other action games.
@tetrisdave
@tetrisdave 9 жыл бұрын
90sgamer92 That's exactly right. If you have time between turns in a battle to strategize then I don't mind isometric. When I'm trying to platform in a isometric game that's where the fun stops.

Great episode as always! Glad to see you cover Little Ralph -- that game is fantastic. I actually have kind of a collection of Japanese PS1 games (I used to buy used Japanese PS1 games every weekend when I lived in Japan), so I have a few more suggestions for you if you're interested (and do accept my apologies if I've suggested these before, as I very well might have!). All three of these can be found on J-PSN. こみゅにてぃぽむ (Community POM) Basically a super-cute Zelda-like with a little bit of Tamagotchi thrown in. You control a 12-year-old pigtailed shepherdess named Lulu, and your goal is to save these cute little sheep-like creatures called Poms. But not only are you saving them, you're also building a little Pom city, where the Poms can grow crops, build shops, etc. And you can take up to three Poms with you on your journey and have them do things for you like breathe fire, extend their tongues to form bridges, become rafts to let you sail across the water, etc. It's a little unbalanced, but it's a really fun game with a great look, a super-fast pace, and great music (though some of the music is very clearly plagiarized -- the boss theme is ripped straight out of Dragnet, and the overworld theme is basically a sped up version of the Delfonics song "La La (Means I Love You)" for some reason). アディのおくりもの (Addie no Okurimono / Addie's Present) Search for the English title on KZbin to see some footage I uploaded with English subtitles, or hear some of its in-game music. I absolutely fell in love with this game after playing it. At it's core, it's kind of like a cross between a puzzle RPG and a point-and-click adventure (or kind of like a proto-Professor Layton, if you want to think of it that way), but instead of fighting enemies, you perform word puzzles where you're trying to change one English word into another in order to change one object into another -- for instance, the first puzzle has you trying to change CAGE into BELL in order to free a boy from a cage by transforming that cage into a bell so he can drop out the bottom. Although the story is in Japanese (and it's actually a REALLY good story!), all the word puzzles are in English, so once you learn the rules, you can play this game no problem through trial and error. You will be missing out, though, because I honestly really think the story and characters are exceptional, and they're the real reason I came to love this title so much. ロビン・ロイドの冒険 (Robin Lloyd no Bouken / The Adventures of Robin Lloyd) A somewhat early GUST title, and one of their best in my opinion. This one is pretty tough to play if you don't speak Japanese, but worth the effort, as it's just a really cool tongue-in-cheek detective game. Most of the game is spent wandering around locations, talking to people and examining clues (which literally has you manually spinning 3D objects, zooming in on them, etc.) in order to get items that you need to use in specific spots to advance the story, but then when you do advance the story, you get crazy minigame boss battles, or 3D dungeon segments, or all kinds of other cool unexpected things that help give the game a lot of variety. Part of its charm, though, is just how goofy it is -- I mean, one of the bosses has your dog (who wears a suit and is named Butler) driving a convertible with a cannon mounted on its hood, while you're aiming the cannon and trying to take down a tank. If that's not awesome, I don't know what is!

A few others worth looking into are Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream for the Dreamcast, Dream Mix TV: World Fighters for the PS2 and Gamecube, and Coloball 2002 for the PS2 (which I have some extensive gameplay videos of on my channel). All three of these are playable by non-Japanese speakers, but none of them are on PSN or anything, so you'd need to track down physical copies.

Wow that Urusei Yatsura game looks great! Better than the Famicom game for sure. For people who don't know, Urusei Yatsura is pretty much a God among Anime & Manga. Pretty much every comedy Anime after it was influenced by it, and you might call it the godfather of the harem Anime... although that's not the focus. Also it was the artist's precursor to Ranma 1/2 & Inu Yasha. You can even see it's influence in new cartoons like Bee & Puppycat! I would suggest people check it out, but the DVDs are out of print. Hopefully they bring over the bluerays from Japan!

Harmful Park! :D I love titles like that. It immediately makes you wonder just what's going on, what kind of game it is, etc. I love the tiny pies you get to throw at enemies, as well as the tiny ice cream cone options. :3 I really wish Lunar Magic School got more love. In fact, the Lunar world as a whole could use a couple more spin offs like that. It was one of the earliest things I remember that used the whole "magic school" concept, and with the increasing popularity of it these days (it's basically a genre now thanks to Harry Potter) I think a whole new Lunar story focused around the city of Vane would really catch on. Can't believe I've never heard of Twinkle Tale. It has so many aspects I love. It looks like the closest thing there is to a twin-sticks shooter on a non-sticks platform. XD Whoa, a second Fortified Zone on the Gameboy! :0

Great episode! Obviously it's great to hear about import games that I'm not familiar with, but I also enjoy it when you guys give impressions about games I already have! I was fortunate to get physical copies of Harmful Park and Little Ralph without breaking the bank. Harmful Park is definitely one of my favorite shmups (I wrote its only review on Gamefaqs), I'm glad to see it get more love!

I'm laughing at the very idea that some people are surprised that a show called Game Sack made some off color jokes about a video game called Nuts & Milk. Just sayin' :P Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Sega Genesis music to compose...or something :P.

Adult 33 here and I love this episode. Game Sack David White you guys will never please everyone, but it's really important for you and Dave to both know that your true fans really appreciate and will always back you guys up, whether you have a great or not so great video. I for one haven't been disappointed ever, but make sure that you focus on the positive just as much as the negative that people post here. People don't realize how hard it is to continue a funny parody after each video. Just ignore the hate and keep up the great work!!

Wow guys, amazing episode. You actually introduce me to something new and exciting, unlike most KZbinrs who just talk about the same games others have over and over... anyway I didn't mind the ending. I don't understand what's the fuss about, it was only a minute or two long which shouldn't bother you considering the episode is half an hour long. Looking forward to your next uploads.

You guys need to talk about Seiken Densetsu 3 the sequel to Secret of Mana that never made it stateside. There are fan translations available. One of the best features is that you choose three characters from a selection of six when you start the game and depending on what characters you picked and in what order will alter the game's story. Major replay value that's for sure. From what I hear the cancellation of the Snes cd drive it was originally made for delayed the release in Japan and a US release was scrapped after Square signed an exclusivity deal with Sony. Also, could you guys discuss the Wild Arms series? Not exactly left in Japan, but definitely a series that deserves more attention than it gets. Shame that Sony seems uninterested in continuing what was one of the founding series on the original PlayStation.

Some top notch games in this episode. Harmful Park is one of the PS1 I always dig up when I'm nostalgic, that and YoYo's Puzzle Park. Another game almost worthy of a spot in a future Left in Japan, I say almost as it came out in PAL territories.

I don't blame Dave for not liking isometric games. I think it's an awful look and it doesn't work naturally with a directional pad or even a control stick unless the gameplay uses a cursor for control or very little collision detection.

Great episode you guys ^_^ I... can only name you 6 games that were left in Japan, that I know of: - Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan - Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2 (You know Elite Beat Agents for the DS? Well, these two are the Japanese versions, and the original versions at that.) - Jump Superstars/Jump Ultimate Stars - Sunday VS Magazine Shuuketsu! Choujou Daikessen - Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax (One's a SSB-style anime crossover, the next's a 2.5 anime crossover fighting game and the last's a 2D anime crossover fighting game... guess why they weren't localized XD )
