So, if I'm standing right in the middle of a hallway or doorway, and I know you're trying to get by, but I refuse to move, I suppose you're okay with that because, after all, I'm acting within the law and there's no rules against it, right? Met one of these righteous guys like 30 years ago in (court ordered) driving school, of all places. He said, "I'm doing the speed limit, so I don't have to move over". His statement got one of those subtle yet loud and clear audible reactions from many of the people in that class. These people are absolutely part of the problem with their self-righteous disregard for everyone else on the road, throwing common courtesy out the window and happily antagonizing people who, for all you know, might be experiencing some kind of major emergency and can't get past you because of your (not very well thought out) high principles. These are the type of people who trigger road rage incidents. Personally, I think many of these people are getting some kind of thrill from being able to exert some form of control over others. My rule is, if you're in the left lane and you're not passing anyone, you don't need to be there. MOVE OVER.

No common problem in this world makes me angrier than left lane campers. There defenses are like you said: "I'm going the speed limit I don't have to move so you can speed" or "You should have left earlier" or "Why should I move for you?" It's amazing how many people do not understand that it IS the law (even in crazy places like CA) to pass and then move over. You can even read some comments on this video saying if you are going the speed limit you don't have to move over. Sadly, it's just not enforced, it's like jaywalking, nobody is going to get you over it. I used to rage and now I just look around for cops, then pass on the shoulder. I have passed on dirt and grass too. Love my AWD. If I spin out, so be it. Guess who I'm taking with me? OR they can avoid all that, and just MOVE OVER. I just don't get the big deal. I even have a saved video of a guy blocking me for no reason. We never met before and I was behind him all of 15 seconds when he decided to actively block me. I think he saw me come off the onramp quickly and decided "this guy" Seriously, if it were 20 years ago and there weren't cameras everywhere I think I'd start pit maneuvering people, that is actually how sick of it I am. Its aging me I get so stressed over it. Also, a lot of the time it isn't some old lady. Often times it's a young person. I think a lot of people believe the left lane is their personal: "Large gap in front of me so that I can text lane" rather than the passing lane. That is a big part of it. I had a guy once not move at a green light, so I honked. He then drove slow at the next green light. He was texting, of course Aggressively went around and gave him the finger. Guy followed me to the work parking lot, and told me, no joke "I can text and drive if I want, too bad for you" and was that mad I gave him the finger. (not mad enough to get out of his car when I asked him if he wanted to settle it though, LOL.) Was in his late 30s I'd guess. It's unreal to me.

Being waterboarded by the stupidity and arrogance of self-deputized fools is a fantastic receipe for road rage. Too many broke and stupid drivers that hate their life use their car as a source of power over others. During rush hour, they'll do 5 mph under the speed limit in the car pool lane, holding up miles of cars behind them. Where else in their miserable shytti life can they have that kind of control over people? Can you imagine being in a grocery store aisle and that same ayhole standing in front of you with arms outstretched so you can't get around them, and walking at a snails pace. That's effectively what tens of millions of drivers do on the road. They feel entitled to waste others time when they don't have to see them confront them and risk getting punched in the face. Most road rage shootings should be justified self-defense. Just how offensive and controlling should you be allowed to be over another person without expecting a reaction from them?

Yes, it's this officious, self-righteous attitude that is a complete contradiction. They're obviously implying that the other drivers are going too fast, aka driving dangerously, and are imposing their idea of "safety" on everyone else. And perhaps they have good intentions (but we know they don't; just being control freak assholes). But the end result of their personal enforcement produces the OPPOSITE result: more dangerous conditions! Contributing to tail gating is NOT making things safer! They've pissed off everyone behind them who tend to make dangerous right-side passes in their frustration to get around them. And they're inciting road rage the entire time. So you are allowed to go over the speed limit to pass. The Behavior is so bad there wasn't a law against left lane hogging until recently in Minnesota. But people don't follow it. You're right. Highways are not racetracks, which is why I prefer them, and other good public roads. Racetracks are too overpriced, too limited, and way too inconvenient. There's times & places, where one can safely go fast, on public roads. And doing so, with a properly setup performance-oriented vehicle, will make doing so, even safer, because of the above average handling, braking, and stability. Speed limits are irrelevant. What's more important, are the road condition, the weather, the visibility, the likelihood of obstacles popping out of no-where, and of course, the traffic around & ahead. That's what keeps me safe. My alertness, my produce, my skills, and knowing the physical limits of my bikes. People can be as distracted, drunk, incompetent, stupid and wicked as possible. It is my responsibility to keep myself & motorcycle safe. The police & government can burn.
@mikebussy33345 жыл бұрын
@Curtis Sherwood tell that to the race bike enthusiasts that go 140mph weaving in and out of traffic and the highway patrol does not do anything to them. Let me go 75 mph in the left lane and if you want to go 60 be in the right hand lane. The speed limit was set up for older cars. My truck rides so smooth that going 80 feels like going 50.

At least here in California the bigger issue is the dive bombers, merge cheaters, and people the refuse to allow you to change lanes to merge or exit creating entropy in traffic. It all comes from a mentality of only caring about yourself and not the way the whole system functions.

California overall has the best drivers of all the states. I learned to drive in CA and feel so fortunate as it prepared me for all the other places I’d be where people were bad drivers or assumed women don’t know how to drive. California drivers are more willing to let people merge into their lane, keep moving along, and know how to use on ramps for acceleration. I keep telling people that in my state, if you are d riving in the left lane and not making a turn, and refuse to pull to the right lane when someone wants to go faster than you are, it doesnt matter if you are going 30+ MPH over the speed limit, if he wants to go higher, you gotta pull to the right lane. People dont believe me when i tell them its on the books and i have seen cops semi enforce this. Downside or upside depends how you look at it, its not a moving violation but something lesser. What i mean by semi enforce, is that, if the person is impeding traffic and no one is being a dipS around them, aka passing them on the right lane, they wont touch it, but the moment you got a train of like 4-8 people passing this person going "slow" in the left lane , lights are blaring at that point, slow car is getting pulled over. Slow meaning slower than the speed of traffic, or what traffic wishes to go. I think it is called obstructing traffic or something along those lines. If im not mistaken its usually meant to be informative and a quick cash grab (still less than a speeding ticket, which is already pretty low). IIRC this was passed to give a reason for cops to stop people from going the speed limit in all lanes of the road, side by side. AKA something like protesting people speeding etc. by getting like 4 cars in a 4 lane road, just cruise control set at the speed limit acting like a wall.

You should have informed the officer that "passing on the right" refers explicitly to using the shoulder of the road, at least it does here in Maryland. It's not illegal for traffic in a lane to be traveling faster than traffic in the lane to its left if nobody is exceeding the speed limit. That would be simply insane, because it happens all the time. The driver's improvement course in Maryland even explicitly explains this law and shows several demonstration animations of traffic going various speeds including people in a right lane traveling faster than a slower car in the middle lane. I find it hard to believe Maine would be so dumb as to define "passing on the right" as "traveling down the highway faster than a slow car in the left lane." If you haven't gone to court already, that should be a very easy ticket to beat. Just explain what the law actually says.

Casey one thing you could do when being behind a left lane hog rather than honk and flash the lights is to give a left turn signal to let them know you want that lane to be open. Unfortunately, most people are either on their phones or probably won’t understand. However, I’ve done it before and it has worked. Whether it does or not, it’s a very polite way to do it as it’s the way Germans do it on the Autobahn.

My grocery getter is a retired ambulance. Its amazing how many people get the hell out of the left lane when, A: A giant ambulance is crawling up their tailpipe, B: It has a very distinctive air horn. I cannot give two courtesy honks without giving them brown pants at the same time. Mind you, I do not go hunting left lane hogs, but when I come across them I absolutely have some fun with them.

LOL!!! I had one. This is 100% TRUE!!!! I also loved when people would have their brights on in my face and they would not shut them off after I flashed them. I'd flash the spotlight (facing down, not out) and they would immediately shut them off. ROFL!!! Another thing having an ex-cop car is getting waved first at every stop sign you go to. One of the bad things I'd run into quite often is when I was doing a left turn, a car across from me turning right and had the right of way would just sit there because they didn't want me behind them I guess. That shit got on my nerves.

I learned this from a state highway patrolman, he flashed his headlights and me not knowing what he wanted I pulled over and he taught me something that I hadn't learned in driving school. Left lane hogs make things dangerous so hopefully this video reaches more people.

I go to England a lot. It's so refreshing to drive there: first off, the rental cars are stick shift, unless you specifically ask for an automatic. Second, people KNOW HOW TO DRIVE and actually follow the rules. Of course it's right lane discipline, not left lane, but it's the rule of the road, and everyone follows it. And get this - people know what turn signals are, and actually use them! Even when changing lanes! Not to mention that if you are hogging the right lane and not moving over for faster traffic, YOU WILL GET PULLED OVER AND TICKETED. I sure wish they did that here. What drives me insane here is when one tractor trailer pulls out to pass another one, and does so with a speed differential of 1/4 mph. It takes 5 minutes to complete the pass, and in the meantime, they block both lanes for everybody else, creating a backlog of traffic behind them.

To be fair though, it's not as if they aren't trying. They're also going to a destination with a load and are working. Like when I'm in line at the grocery store and the media or candy vendors need to stock the aisle shelves we all move out of their way because they're working. Also, it's kind of the purpose of the highways in the first place. They were created to mobilize troops and or goods rather than for us to commute on. I see truckers, especially within the city that get a ton of hate. Sure it's inconvenient, but so is an oversized plane wing, tank, mobile home, etc. in transport. I have far more issue with box trucks from rental companies being operated with people that have no clue how to drive one safely than big rigs.

I once got pulled over for driving in the passing lane. I told the cop I didn't know that was a thing and they just warned me. But there was a problem with this. Just a bit earlier I was probably doing 20-30 MPH over the speed limit and was the fastest car on the road passing freaking EVERYONE! When I saw that cop I thought he had me dead to rights and I was getting a big ass ticket. I slowed down as fast as I could but couldn't duck my car back in the right lane safely. I dodged a freaking bullet on that one. I still laugh about that incident. What was I going to tell the cop? I was passing people like crazy until I saw you and had to jam the brakes! Nope. I played dumb.

People on cell phones do this very often too. What they do is tailgate a car that is roughly doing their speed...I've had those pricks do that when we're the only two cars on the road at 3AM in some pretty sparse stretch in a rural area. But when there isn't someone to track like that, they just sit there and when other cars speed up they do too because they're going off others. It is infuriating.

or vice versa. after work one day i was driving home and decided to pass a guy going 5 under the limit. i passed him and wanted to go back into the right lane, so i waited a few moments til i could see his headlights in the rearview mirror, but i notice he started speeding up as there was no difference in distance. (the headrest of the backseats block headlights, and he was just right at that spot where i could safely lane change) i honestly didn't realise it but i signalled right and cut him off, which i saw two headlights slowing down behind me.
