Great stuff Coach. I’m a scratch player but very streaky and could never figure out why. All my coaches have focused on the hip clearing or right shoulder under left rather than this simple idea of lowering lead shoulder left on downswing. Creates a lovely punch flight with compression.

Very well done, simple and concise. My issue is my lower back can only do so much. Would love a video on how to play with limited motion. I see all these videos with Nelly Korda but I am not a 24 year old girl so I can’t replicate her swing. Love the channel coach!

I tried this to get rid of my shanks and it worked! My shoulder turn was level but I wasn't lifting up. This made my swing very in to out. By getting my shoulder moving down on the backswing it straightened out my swing path. Strikes and direction improved and no more shanks. Thanks coach.

Thanks Lockey. So clearly explained. Half of 3 . . . My natural tendency is to sway to the right, which I focus on avoiding. Oherwise my backswing is ok, but I have to think about breaking an old habit of starting my downswing with my trail shoulder, which levels them out and ruins my path. I can do it correctly, but I think this might be a better way to get the right feeling, so off to the range! 👍🏻

Great video! First time viewer to your channel. Yes, I hit the subscribe button 😊. After watching this video I watched the handshake video. It's the perfect segue to this video IMO. If you really extend your hand it automatically engages the left obliques and starts pinching your left bicep to your left peck. The left knee bends and it gets you loaded onto your right side. I suggest standing in front of a mirror with your left shoulder just even with the left edge. When you do either of the drills, you can see the proper movement. Sorry to be so wordy but I think it can help others like myself. Thanks again.

Just found this video and this helps massively - been practicing my lead shoulder going down and under and staying in posture BUT I have been trying to stay on that left line as thought might give me consistent low point. Obviously wrong, lol - give this a go over the range. Cheers, Coach 👍

Nice… Good breakdown Coach! I’m probably one of those who have moved the shoulders up every so often. This imagery is helpful to me just to understand that movement of the lead shoulder as I unload and pivot with that lead leg.

Some interesting stuff there. I hadn't heard of the idea of pointing the left shoulder down towards the ball, until quite recently. I've never tried it; and, never will. It is said that it is an old Arnold Palmer idea. But, i would suspect that he only did this with his driver; and, that his height etc. was perfectly suited to this method. The key thing for you to learn is that it should be possible to hang your arms by your side; and, make a full turn without actively turning your body or shoulders, whilst staying focused on the ball. This is how the pivot; and, the swing coil, are created in the actual swing. But, with regard to the shoulder movement in the downswing, you are quite right to say that the shoulder should not move up. But, this is how pga professionals taught us to swing up until 30 years ago. I campaigned to stop them from doing this. Primarily, because it can dislocate the shoulder. But, by pressing down with the left shoulder you are only succumbing to the laws of enantidromia. And, this, too, will cause injury to the shoulder. And, really, your focus should be on pressing down with the left side of your head. But, there should be no real need to do this in the full swing, as the left side of the head has to press down, towards the top of the backswing, to complete the backswing; and, it, therefore, will press down in the downswing, if you trigger the downswing corectly. But, this is not by doing anything with the feet, or legs, or hips, or body, or shoulders.

I actually had this takeaway from your pitching lesson you posted, instead focusing on squatting it's easier to focus on the shoulder since it is part of your upper body, if that makes sense.

Just found your channel. Excellent information and clear communication. Coach, since this lesson is geared for an iron swing, would the lead shoulder STILL moves down toward the left foot on the downswing for the DRIVER? since the set up is different for the driver. Thank you for your wonderful coaching.

I read ben hogan’s book when i was a kid ( thanks, dad ?? Hmmm), I didn’t have enough “ reps” or life experience to fully implement his 5 tips.. one thing that has plagued me is his description of the “ plane” - i try to keep my shoulders on a plane but what i sm really doing is lifting my shoulders ( picture shoulder shrugs) - i am trying to consciously keep my shoulders relaxed & far from my ears throughout ( and i am killing the ball) but I am worried that I am now flat like you described ?!

Hi, I am confused with this video. I too have incorrect shoulder rotation and think my instinct is to try get the right shoulder coming downwards on the way back to the ball. I can't see how I get the left shoulder down. Is it trying to move the right shoulder down that pushes you into the left foot or a squating motion that brings the left shoulder down, what is the correct sequence?

Hi Coach. My club always exits at about my shoulder level. Yours seems to exit much lower. Is this caused by my shoulder rising instead of lowering in the downswing? Thanks. Ralph G.

When you squat down does this change the low point of your swing
@CoachLockey Жыл бұрын
It will change the high and low of your swing arc, which will influence low point. So when and how you push back up after the squat will depend on where you contact the ground. If you see a particular pattern which isn’t a good strike, fats/thins, move ball position to accommodate 👍
@amfohr8 ай бұрын
Your shoulder is going where your sternum is going, this would be a better focal point for moving the shoulder. The shoulder has some wiggle room in regard to the torso and people can try to jerk shoulders around which does not seem very helpful.
