Koos,The Paratroopers ,32Bn and 61 Mech where spcialised Infantry units who in 90% of the boder war operations in Angola where the units who had specialised training to attack enemy bases by air or IFV. This is where the fighting was done and where the lead flew and the blood and tears flowed and where the enemy was killed. They where not just "normal infantry" All where volunteers and highly motivated and trained.This they did working on info from the Intel community (Recces, Radio interception , saaf airphotos and Intellegance officers) Infantry was associated with patrols in Ovamboland by 2SAI up to 7 SAI. Just to clarify/ quantify your remark.

I was at Salisbury Island in 76 on the SAS Reijger and i remember the 1 RR being on the base at that time,because we transported the to Richards Bay
