Legend of Kyrandia in-game music - Adlib & MT-32

The MT-32 version starts at 2:46.
Very lazy video, just showing a tune from Kyrandia played using both Adlib and MT-32.
Playing around with my MT32 here these days, just got it hooked up properly.
You'll notice I used & instead of VS, this is because I find that both versions of this tune are really good in their own ways.
This game uses the normal Adlib midi very well, one of my favourite adventure game adlib tunes.
Not sure which version I prefer, to be honest... I like both of them a lot :)

I remember when I moved from a Soundblaster Pro to an AWE32 back in the day and was bowled over by the quality of the midi music. MT-32 version for me I'm afraid :) Glad to see you back too.

@lildopDOTcom Hah, nice! :) I've been much too lazy with this channel the last year or two but I might start recording some more videos again. I'm thinking maybe I should record a few longplays of various Sierra adventure games, only using MT-32 music instead of the often rather poor Adlib music you get most often in videos. There don't seem to be too many of those on here already.

@SohoMonkey I'll have a look at Willy and how it sounds on the MT-32 here... though I'm fairly sure only the floppy version has MT-32 support. If nothing else, I'll upload a video showing the difference in the opening song using Adlib and MT-32, like in my last few videos. If there are other games you'd like to hear a comparison between the adlib and MT-32 music, just let me know.

@SuperMegaLoser No, it's not lazy downsampling - it's that they use adlib for music, like in most games supporting soundblaster... usually soundblaster for speech/sound effects and adlib for music.

:-) Westwood games had exellent AdLib sound, better than most companies at the time if not the best. The instruments don't sound ugly, but interesting in their own (slightly surreal) way, and are mostly very recognisable as instruments. Holds up quite well when compared to MT-32 or General Midi. One of my favourites is the "choose your character" screen music in Lands of Lore 1.

@SuperMegaLoser Sounds like a flute at the beginning of the adlib track to me... but maybe because I'm used to how things sounded on adlib (plus there's one bit where you play a flute and it's the same sound, so I know that's a flute if you see what I mean)

hm, so the MT-32 version's starting instrument is a flute? i thought the sound blaster could produce flute sounds. lazy downsampling?

@Gmoooba but samples have nothing to do with MIDI.. MIDI is basically the same as C-64 SID tune...
