Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich are probably my favourite American songwriters. Unpretentious, melodious, inspired and inspirational. Great to see the interview, thankyou.

I play this guy's songs every weekend ..Had no idea who wrote "Be My Baby" "And She Kissed Me" Wow "Tell Laura I Love Her" "Baby Please Come Home" This guy is like my favorite songwriter, and I never heard of him! As a songwriter I'm hanging on every word he says.

Great answers on so many topics. What stuck out was his honesty and drive in his craft. He writes what he knows. He has to get it out. It keeps him vital. Standout episode.

I love hearing about the stories of pop music history! From a guy(me) born in Brooklyn, NY as well who's written songs that definitely will never be as iconic as the ones Mr Barry helped invent.

This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever heard about songwriting. Mind blowing. Also, I think it was Urge Overkill who did the Neil Diamond tune on Pulp Fiction

Jeff, These 2 hours were a great investment of my time. Found you originally because I thought you were somehow related to John Barry. Searched and discovered this via My Last Trip Home. Robert

I love to hear the stories behind the songs this man has been around for sure. However diss-ing the Beatles come on dude, I guess it's a matter of opinion and or taste, even envy maybe but they were arguably the greatest 4-some to hit popular music, and influenced everyone. Doo-wop era was just so different, still much respect for the craft and success to Jeff Barry.

I’m a huge Beatles fan. They’re my favorite band. I respectfully disagree with Jeff Barry on that, but I have the utmost respect for him as a songwriter. I’m also a huge Monkees fan and love Jeff’s contributions to that band. And, Jeff also wrote the soundtrack to “The Idolmaker”. Brilliant man.

Interesting that he thought Be My Baby bumped the Beatles from #1. Be My Baby was out in August 1963 and the Beatles did not hit it big in America was late December, early January 1964.
@stevemineer2857 Жыл бұрын
He seems to have a real problem with the Beatles. Nothing this guy wrote comes close to what the Beatles did.
@drummerc1795 Жыл бұрын
Yes and I believe that Be My Baby never reached #1 on the charts. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts charts. He also did not correct the interviewer when he said that “then he kissed me” was a Ronettes song as it was a hit by the Crystals.
@recordguy4321 Жыл бұрын
the interviewer clearly does not know jack squat. he thinks Ike played on River Dep. LOL Spector had to pay him to use Tina and keep him away.
