Levy infantry heroically holding forts is always badass :) I liked the regrouping once the wall was lost to keep firing on them while the spears tied them down.

I know you've probably already finished the campaign but here are a few tips I remember from my legendary republic Nagaoka campaign (will edit as I remember more): 1. Cannons are great, but parrot guns are sufficient and don't require any research. The ai rarely recruits artillery other than wooden cannons, so it is easy to get artillery superiority, forcing the ai to attack, which it is horrible at. 2. Probably the most important tech to research on ultra unit size is kneel fire, which allows every man in a unit of 200 men to fire when spread as far out as possible (two ranks of a hundred men). Without it, only the first rank can fire, reducing your firepower by half. 3. As ships go all you really need are Kotetsus. They have a forward cannon that outranges every other ship, which allows you to kite the ai with advanced armor piercing shells until their ships explode. You're normally capped to 6, but you can capture and repair ones built by the ai.

I noticed that when I started really getting into other sengoku games, and read that tiny description when you choose clans I think it's not the people's fault, cause when you play Shogun 2 or RoTS, the big text you first see is the clan name. FoTS changing it up is bound to be misleading.

I'm glad to see this campaign! I know you don't like advice so I'll just share some observations about this game: I hope later in the campaign you discovered how OP kneel fire is. The AI does not use it so your kneel fire troops will shred the enemy. You are correct about allies, they are entirely worthless. If you were to pick Shogunate at realm divide, you'd notice the allies running troops around like they're going to do something but never actually doing anything. I call this "training exercises" because they'll march around, get on and off of boats, run agents all over the place... and accomplish absolute fuck all the entire time. You will need navies to de-louse your waters because the AI will bombard everything they can every single turn to wreck your economy and cause revolts. Speaking of boats, if you have a disloyal general, stick him on a boat. There is no mechanic in the game for boats to defect. The honor penalty for looting caps at -3 and the bonus for vassaling caps at +3 so if you establish three vassals you can loot all you want. There's also a tech tree boost or two for the Daimyo's honor. And as he ranks up it's possible to get retainers or skills that will increase his honor as well. You can still have a +7 honor rating after looting almost the entire map.

Man I played this campaign loads of times and never won. It takes more time than its worth to complete I concluded. Why does it take so long to get artillery ? Most of the campaign is just a huge deadlock

david melos first building gives you wooden canon which has no ammo plus it cant move. 2nd building is 5k and takes another 4-5 turns, then each piece takes 3 turns and costs 2k, if ur playing legendary ur opponents can be very strong by time u get it

Vernon D You have to rush a few provinces to establish a good economy and help with industrialization for researching technologies. Just remember that the AI don't need to recruit "normally" to get units. If it has an army in the fog of war campaign map, it can directly convert units without recruiting them like turning levy infantry to line infantry like a console command cheat.
