Shogun 2 is one of those games where I will go for a full year not playing but then drops weeks or months of my time playing it. 13 years old and it is still solid

@@wendigo7176 Warhammer has some strong points esp. if you're a fan of the franchise but AI and tactical battles aren't really it. Building is also quite simple despite having more different buildings than Shougun 2. But if we're talking value for money there's no contest. The full Warhammer experience is quite costly.

@@kaltaron1284 with the tactical battles being better, the lack of unique campaign mechanics doesn't matter since most of your time will be spent in battles anyway warhammer just lacks the impact of 1v1 combat, the lethality, the huge effect of terrain and moral actually mattering especially the terrain man, I look at Warhammer map and all I might care about is objects blocking my artillery, in S2 I look for high ground, flanking forrests, forrest cover, getting guns actual LoS, that actually makes you engage with map and play battles differently then just drag-line-wind-of-death every battle

This was my disaster! Thanks for covering it. I didnt know that the army would block the garrison. Shogun 2 FoTS is my favorite total war game so I'm so glad to see you playing it again!

And merging units would have made the battle easier but cost you a bit more after that. Both are valid options depending on how confident or risk awarse you are. But yeah, the garrison mechanics in different Total War games can be a "tiny" bit confusing.

Hmm, u want to keep using mixed formation? Kinda strange to see both old and new style mixed in. Especially the sobutai(?) since u can get line infantry for those melee units easily.

​@@huntermad5668shogitai would wreck any gun unit they charge into. Yeah sure, you could get more line.inf but sometimes you end up fighting half an army of Yari Kachi, so having some decent melee units to stem the tide fir your guns to fire longer is great

@@georgeclueney4419 Why? That is a really big IF. Vast majority of the time, they just die. And to get them, u need dedicated a slot, a totally different building line and upgrade the barrack to tier 3(?). Line infantry is way more effetive overall, easier and cheaper to recruit. Buffed by general and tech, they are still effective in late game especially with Kneel fire. Just bring 3-4 cannon batteries and all that worry go away. The battlefield of FOTS is big enough for arty to kill at least a quarter of enemy forces before getting into rifle range. Full line infantry firing line would smash any cav or melee infantry tried to charge in. u prepare for a rare battle may not happen and very likely can be dealt with a line infantry army anyway

@@huntermad5668 Well getting cannons takes far longer than shogitai do. Cannons are still extrmely deadly, dont try comapring cannons to melee units, they fill different roles. Sometimes the enemy WILL close in and without melee units, your guns will falter. You dont need any tech for shogitai. Also if youre just trying to charge shogitai into enemy guns from the front then thats a skill issue. You underestimate the melee differences between dedicated melee and gun units.

I will always love this game, warts and all. Honestly, Fall of the Samurai 2 which cleaned up the flaws of the first game, added more complex and varied siege maps but kept the same general formula would be even more welcome than Empire 2.

I'd love it if the siege maps were actually like the historical Japanese castle towns. Would change things a lot of course and there's a huge risk that AI, pathfinding and controls could be absolute garbage.

I love sieges in FotS, they're quick and fun. For the next move, I'd take the main army sans arty and capture the next town over. Ignore that little remnant force, they'll be taking attrition during winter if they're stuck in your territory. The garrison plus that little stack you put outside could easily handle them if they charged at the castle again. Also, put the Foreign Veteran back in an army, they are terrible scouts.

Tips; Just buy shogun 2 gold key. it come with everything except fking blood pack. (Both Shogun 2 and Shogun 2 Fall of the samurai in the one single game) PS; Fking Blood pack only need to buy for Shogun 2. no need on FOTS. It work on both.

I just watched FotS -content from you and it was only 9 months old, so not quite a year, but great to see it again. Not quite how I would have fought this one, but certainly gave me some things to consider. This might be a very rare case where I actually have confidence to think I'd have done pretty much as well, if not even slightly better. But good job. Now I'm actually considering installing the game once again! :D Obviously it would take couple of hours and I'd humiliate AI again and again, so it would get a bit boring... Still might do it. Good job. Oh, and S2 is obviously the only really worthy historical, just because M2 is just too old. Well, that's my fault, actually, I played it too much (if that's possible) and it has it's issues. I'd only consider playing it with Stainless Steel (greatest mod of all times ever don't even dare to disagree!) and I know you won't do modded (?), so yeah, S2 is the only interesting option.

I would love to see more historical total wars on your channel Legend. WH3 is great and all, but more variety is always welcome. Playing Empire myself right now, using DarthMod. The game is great, i love gunpowder warfare and scale of the campaign. Only the braindead AI takes away some of the fun, but i'm telling myself that enemy generals must be some inbred habsburgs.

I like any historic TW content just as much as the Warhammer stuff, even if some of the older games are a little less visually interesting. They play different enough individually while still being Total War content. I see no downside to that.

No. But I honestly missed it because bad eye sight and not paying attention. Sakamoto Ryouma is a real life legend. I visited a museum in I think Kagoshima that had a section dedicated to him. And the beach where he spent his honeymoon.
