I think virtually any shot of this film could be made into a painting....so picturesque and artistic. I had fallen in love with it then in 1994 and I still can watch it over and over again. All the characters are so iconic.

It was so sad how Susannah was vibrant, cheerful, and quickly adapted to the harsh conditions in the first part of the movie and then ends up depressed, sad, and hopeless at the end.

She could have accomplished so much more by adopting children and going on to do great things for society as Alfred’s wife. Such a waste.

Colonel Ludlow was just as obsessed with Susannah as Alfred was, that’s why he insisted she stay at the ranch after Samuel was dead. His own wife was gone and he wanted Susannah there so he could live off her youthful femininity.

I love Brad Pitt, a great actor. The character of Tristan is so unpredictable and tortured. He relates love making as wild and carnal. True intimacy is unreachable for him. Love cannot be completely attained without it.

Women were just animals to Tristan. He had no delicacy and was incapable of true lovemaking.

It's so sad that Susannah never really loved Samuel. She may have loved him on a lower level, but when she meets Tristan, she becomes more in love with him than she could ever feel for Samuel. And I think she put too much on what happened between her and Tristan. She proved to have been waiting and hoping that Samuel would die so she could be with Tristan. Then, she went on to break more hearts by marrying Alfred. Sure, she must've thought, "Hey, maybe if I try, I'll forget Tristan, and I'll love Alfred." That's not a good basis for a marriage

It's set between 1910s-1930s. What do you expect? Women weren't considered equal.
