I like your numbering system, the gym I went to was different, here were the numbers. 1. Jab 2. Cross 3 left hook head 4 right hook head 5 left hook body 6 right hook body 7 left upper 8 right upper 9 overhand left 10 overhand right I know there isn’t a standard and many coaches have their variances

@@ineedanewaccount2310 yeeyee. Turn your rear foot and slip your head offline to the left the way you’d slip a cross and then bring your left across your body but bring it over the top instead of throwing a hook/uppercut. Not a punch you’d throw out of base stance only something you’d do off a slip or some kind of head movement where your body is turned.

Nearly every gym, coach or trainer have modified or tailored the combo code system to their personal preference and ease of use. I usually use the 1-6 system, however when I went for my boxing coaching certification, the instructor used jab, cross, lead/rear hook and uppercut, which shouldn't confuse southpaws (I'm naturally an orthodox but can go southpaw due to hand injury. However when training MMA, kickboxing etc we use a numbered combo system which can be adapted to what you're training. 1: jab 2: jab-cross 3: jab-cross-hook 4: jab-cross-hook-cross 5: cross-hook 6: hook-cross Different attacks or defences can be added to every combo such as kick, knee, slip etc. Eg. 3-kick would be jab-cross-hook + kick Even numbered combos would be a switch kick

Yeah these are not the numbers used at most gyms. For Ortho: 1 L jab 2 R cross 3 L hook 4 R hook 5 L upper 6 R upper 7 L overhand* 8 R overhand* Ppl might disagree with the names slightly depending on if it's the front or back foot but you get the general idea *EDIT: 7/8 varies a bit but 1-6 are pretty standard. It's pretty common for 7/8 to be body shots e.g., 7 is a shovel hook. at my gym if we wanted body shots, we'd call the number and then the position of the mitt indicated a body shot. So you could have a jab or cross to the body by calling 1 or 2 and holding the mitt low. Helped the fighter focus on targeting areas rather than just throwing mindlessly because he hears a number.

Thank you because I'm just starting in boxing and I'm loving it. This really helped me. For those that don't really know about boxing, it's a really great exercise for disabled people too. My husband is in the Rock Steady program for parkinson's patients and it's helped him a lot. It's helped him more than all the physical therapy that he has taken. Don't get me wrong PT is good, but boxing have been so much better for my husband. I saw how much others enjoy it at the gym. I decided I want to box and I'm loving it.

I Like the different punch system. It’s very obvious many people don’t see that different gyms will change the system and order of the punches for competition purpose. If coach is shouting punches at you there is an advantage to the other team not being aware of what you are throwing.

I get that everyone does it different, but the way Legends does it seems to create a spatial mixup at the 3 and 4. They way I learned (and it seems most people did, too) is that even/odd pairs are similar punches. Like this: 1- jab 2- cross 3- lead hook 4- rear hook 5- lead uppercut 6- rear uppercut 7- shovel hook (typically thrown with your lead hand) 8- overhand (typically thrown with your rear hand) Any punch in this list can be thrown at the head or the body without changing the number and they pair up well based on the type of punch and similar numbers. But whatever. Regardless of numbers, punching things is fun.

Yeah each gym is gonna have a slightly different way of doing things, it's the "sweet science" after all, and just like scientist every coaches method/approach to training is going to be a little bit different. The most common way I've seen 1-6 is the same jab, cross, hook, hook, uppercut, uppercut. But I've also seen it where 4 was an uppercut and 6 was the hook, or in a couple of gyms I've seen them only teach the lead hook and then go to uppercuts and then the overhand right was 6 with no right hook at all. So it really depends on your gyms coach, but the most common 1-6 is probably going to be the straits, hooks and uppercuts.

Maybe get inside for some hooks to there lungs and get out.
