On the drill bit depth, tip I learned long ago is to use masking tape wrapped numerous times around the point you want it to stop at. Much better than trying to visually look for a black marker line on a spinning bit in the bad light working under a car.

@@treeguyable This, though not necessarily vacuum line, is the absolute best way IMHO. Depending on the size of the bit you're working with might use clear vinyl tubing, vac line, fuel line, hydraulic line, or even some pvc pipe. It provides a tactile physical resistance to going any deeper than you're supposed to go. Don't get me wrong. I have done sharpie and tape. A lot. I just find using something as a sleeve to be substantially better if it's possible. If I was in the position of delorean midwest where I was having to safely do this exact job repeatedly, I would probably even make up some sleeves out of mild steel bar stock on a drill press.

A 1958 MGA, in 1964 I was a junior in high school and I bought the MGA and pulled it in the garage. This is in Minnesota so the snow was feed high. My father and friends disassembled the car and brought it down the basement, where we restored it over the following year and a half. In March 1966 the car was complete and we hauled it up to the garage and reassembled it. I only had a gallon of gasoline so my father said he would follow me to the gas station, we pulled out of the driveway and went down to main street where I sat with my left turn signal on for 2 to 3 minutes waiting for traffic to clear my father honked and I pulled out with him behind me. I got approximately 3/4 of a block from my street And the local police pulled me over and gave me a speeding ticket for 45 in a 30 failure to stop, and not using my turn signal. My father just about blew . It was impossible for a 58 MGA to go from 0 to 45 miles an hour in 1200 feet. My father and I took the cop to court where the judge laughed and said the cop was crazy. After finishing the traffic stop we went down about 3/4 of a mile and I filled up with gas and drove that thing for my entire senior year of high school. Everybody loved it.

A little tip for removing those broken studs, don't heat the stud but heat the area around it or let the stud cool and transfer the heat into the area around it so it's not expanding into the threads around it.
@commonsenseisdeadin20248 ай бұрын
Where did you get that tip? That isn't going to do anything for you, the issue isn't because it's "too tight". Heating the stud will harden the brittle steel and the other issue is galling......(This is why sometimes it removes the threads!) Or if they are iron heads we call it rust! That said...... If you have aluminum heads, DO NOT install stainless bolts dry! If you think steel bolts are a pain..... Well as the saying goes; "fuk around and find out"!
@jeremymann89308 ай бұрын
@commonsenseisdeadin2024 worked on my all aluminum 6.2 very well, after I tried the way they showed here and had the same results. If you heat the part that the bolt or stud threads into, then you create clearance between the threads and anything that's stuck on them, which frees up the bolt/stud.
@bret73068 ай бұрын
The heat in the head breaks the bond to the stud's threads. It weakens the molecular changes that occurred over the years, allowing the stud to break FREE of the thread lock, not break the stud.

Since DeLoreans on the road are so rare and quirky, it has to be a blast to just get in and drive... even without a Flux capacitor.

@35:20, I worked for Snap-on tools in the Harrisburg Repair center for 20 years. Fixed SOOOOO many of those Blue Point angle drills. I used to have the Subaru SVX, designed by the same people who did the DeLorean body. I miss it. Only 240hp, but a lot of fun and it turned heads.

I gotta say, this car has grown on me, and finished product looks great, they are really attractive and I dig the interior. Your enthusiasm over it is infectious. Doesn't have to be a supermarket, if it presses your buttons the right way, thats all that counts.

I drive a 20 year old Landrover Discovery 2 TD5 as my daily driver. I love this old vehicle and will not part with it. My son who is a helicopter AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) looks after the maintenance and repairs for me and the other 3 Landerovers we have in the family! Love your channel Alex!

The late Queen Elizabeth both drove Land Rovers and worked on them during her service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during WWII. (A princess at the time. I think it's pretty cool for a princess to be turning wrenches! Or spanners.)

love your channel. none of the fake drama nonsense you see on a lot of these channels. i love to drive my 1988 pontiac fiero, not the fastest thing by todays standards but so much fun to drive. what it lacks in speed it more than makes up for with smiles per miles.

i bought a 2002 Firebird V6, she's not setting any roads on fire, but she's still fun to drive and still looks damn good and turns heads. I plan on doing some minimal mods, I want to keep things as much stock as possible,

I love my 2016 Buick Regal GS! It's my little 4 cylinder fake factory hotrod. It's pushing 259 horses, it has factory low profile wheels and corners incredibly well. I traded an '06 Impalla SS in for my Buick. The only thing I miss about the Impalla is that V8 torque!! Great channel! Thanks for all you do!!

My favorite slow-ass car was my 1993 Civic VX. It was 92 HP...at the crank. But somehow it still FELT peppy. Whatever combination of torque curve and gearing it had just worked, plus it was pretty light weight, so it felt kinda "sporty" for an economy car. I loved it.

I had a 1988 MR2 Supercharged that I still miss. So basic and slow but it handled great. I've enjoyed watching you bring this DeLorean back to life. Great series!

I'm so glad you got your DeLorean up and running smoothly. Purrs like a kitten and handles beautifully. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago, so I may see you on the road sometime. The DeLorean has always been my dream car since BTTF, and I would love to have one someday. Hopefully, you'll make more videos with yours. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

My dad has a 2006 Seat Leon FR. While it's not fast with 170hp, the upgraded suspension and brakes make this car handle soooo good. It's amazing

22:04 damn it's wild that you already ran out of space in the shop! Felt like you just got out of your home garage not too long ago. Oxyacetylene torches is a must for any shop with rust, was always surprised that you never had one for dealing with Chicago cars, but you have something a lot of mechanics don't have which forces them to buy the torch, which is patience lol

My 1978 Mustang II Ghia, just a 4cyl and only makes somewhere around 80hp. Not fast at all, but everyone who knows what it is is always very excited because they haven't seen one in years.

Reverse bits are GODSEND with stuck bolts. Heat, oil and reverse drill. Since I made the change I have also broken far less extractors and many have come out with out the need to fully drill. Of course always retap/chase the threads.
@ratman98028 ай бұрын
I've never had much luck welding nuts onto broken studs, if you weld a bolt across the top like a Tee, then tap in back and forth (gently) it usually works. That car now looks and sounds perfect, quite a journey; congratulations, it's now one of the best.

Even on one of the best “car days” of my life - getting to drive my friend’s new Ferrari 458 and older Challenge Stradale - driving home in my 2001 Miata gave me “the smile”. I realized that as thankful as I was - getting to aggressively drive two personal ultimate dream cars - I inexplicably enjoy driving my incredibly low HP MX-5 more. My Miata fits me like a glove; and I feel like it is an extension of myself when driving the twisty roads. Every shift is effortless. Even the simplicity of the dash/controls bring me joy.

When I was a kid, my dad had a 1972 MG Midget. It had like 60 hp. He loves to drive it. I never understood why. I was a Camaro/Corvette kid. I got to drive one about 20 years later and WOW. I see what he liked about it. Very fun.

To this day, my favorite car I’ve ever owned was my first car. A 1988 Audi 90, non-Quattro, but still had the 2.3 inline 5, 5-speed. It had 130 hp (factory) but it was SOOO much fun to drive and sounded amazing. I miss that car dearly. Another amazing vid, Alex!

I dont like messing with the bolts while red hot. Maybe some smacks with a hammer. But remember the metal is soft when red. Heat them. Let them cool to warm and spray with penatrant. Let simmer over night. I love reverse drill bits. Poking the pilot hole through the bolt (usually is hollow spot behind em) then squirt penatrant in there. Then reverse drill.

Recently came across this channel and love it. Binge watched the DeLorean videos as it was a huge story here in the UK in the 80’s (I was born ‘64) as I was driving my first cars. Still can’t believe the 130hp output from a V6 🤣

Well, I do enjoy driving around in my 25 years old Daewoo Leganza. And that car is actually fast (i don't know why, it's stock, I had another 2 leganzas, exactly the same, and they weren't as quick and fast as is this one) , and I just love it.

The PRV went even fire in 1986. In 1994-1997 they made a 24v version. 200hp in OE form, 340hp with ITBs and cams NA. I found one with a quick search for under 3k with a car attached lol. Peugeot 605 1996. Stays in spirit with the car. DeLorean likely would have adopted the 24v version when it became available.
