If money was no object what would you daily drive? I'd go with the latest Lamborghini just to put tons of miles on it to see how much money it would take to keep going over 100,000 miles.

Nearly 2x your age. That paper is an old gas receipt from the 60's to late 80's. Most of the gas cards at that time were "merchant based". Back then they would run you credit card through a device that would take an imprint of your card via pressure (similar to rubbing paper). That process was used for years before magnetic strip card readers came into existence. Boron was the Sohio branding of its premium grade gasoline along with its regular grade fuel "Extron" . Looks like the gas price was about $0.36/gal @ 15.6 gal for $5.55. Here is an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnObYoidmdaaipI

it maybe a cotter pin to you but i'm sure we call it a split pin , being a retired Rolls-Royce aero engine fitter we would not have installed the split pin like that . SOHIO was short for Standard Oil of Ohio. I used to work at one of their gas stations back in the 70's when I was in high school. SOHIO was the brand in the state of Ohio. They went by the BORON name in other states. What you found was a credit card receipt. Boron and Extron were the premium and regular grades of gasoline, and Duron and Premix were 2 of their oil brands. If you look at the upper right hand corner of the receipt, you will see the 00555. That meant he spent $5.55. we had to put that info on every credit card receipt, and it had to match the details down below. Looks like it was a purchase of gasoline that was bought on June 11th, 1966 (date next to signature). BTW, I am 66 years old. I also looked at his signature, and it looks as if he signed it as "Dr. Clifford Snider". It would make sense that the owner of the Rolls Royce was a doctor. That receipt brings back a lot of good memories for me. I loved working at that gas station. I met a lot of nice people there.

29:43 Yes! The MB Quarts are super expensive top of the line speakers. A pair would run around $200 - $300 back in 1996. I was shopping for car stereo equipment back in 1996 for my 1992 Mustang LX hatchback and looked at those. I ended up with all McIntosh speakers and amp with a Kenwood KRC9000 ( I think that was the alpha numeric code) hiding deck and a 10-disc Kenwood CD changer. It was the sickest stereo system I had ever had and after spending $4000 I was in heaven. At least until 7 months later when hoodlums broke into my car and stole everything!!! That was the last stereo system that I replaced everything in. To be fair, 3 other cars within 2 blocks had also been broken into. They only got the subwoofers, amp, and CD changer. I guess they couldn't find the deck, so it did its job and all the 5.25s and tweeters were also left alone.

If the rebuilding kit that you need to fit doesn't come with lube you can get special assembly paste from ATE. It is designed to desolve in the brake fluid once you start using the rebuilt part. Obviously you can also use it on brake drum cylinders, brake calipers and clutch cylinders. And when you don't have a small size hone you can tape some fine grit sand paper to the tip of a smaller size drill bit. Wrap the sandpaper over the dril bit and put the drill bit in your drill. Stick it inside the brake cylinder and let the drill rotate and reciprocate. The sandpaper will flap against the cylinder wall and clean it up just fine.

THANK YOU for this video! I have a Rolls that is in dire need of this service. I know I can pick up the new part at my local auto parts house ... off the shelf for little money but with this video you help the tens of thousands of us with this car, thank you! On a more serious note LOL that vise is better made than MOST of what is on the market today. Clean the rust and a little oil and you are done. If you want, paint I guess but as a long time blacksmith (over 50 years using and collecting these tools) and a user of a lot of tools 100 years or more old, a little oil is all you need.

56 Years Old... "Back in the Day" (late '80s) I was an installer for one of the Minneapolis area's premium stereo stores - Audio King. I did a really nice system in a very similar Rolls, with Alpine & ADS components. Enough of that. What amazed me about the car is that it came apart very easily, and went back together even easier... just a few icepicks to line up the fastener holes and the screws went right back in - no fiddling. Make sure your upholstery guy replicates (exactly) how the Brits did it originally, or it won't go back together - the fit is that tight! Get yourself (or use) a properly fitting straight blade driver set. You won't find a Phillips screw anywhere on the car. As you discovered, most everything will come out easily (especially on a southern car), if you don't bugger the screw head! To answer your question - All of that carpet padding is factory. If I recall correctly there were two or three layers, then the carpet inserts. Just wait until you check out the fuse panel... Oh, and if you pull the "door cards" (panels to us Yankees) the power window mechanism will blow your mind... chain drive!

Great video dude, nice camera work and editing, love the sarcasm too. But using your grandma's pillowcase was just sacrilege, it's too beautiful. This diy master cylinder rebuild for your daily driver Rolls Royce is a must. I think I'll get my RR out on the street and do a rebuild too but I'll have to order the special RR tools and make sure I gap correctly. So glad you didn't take this baby out on the salty roads, the underside of that beauty is truly amazing. The very impressive over engineering has stood the test of time. Can't wait to see it with the fresh leather!

That receipt is from a Standard Oil gas/service station. Some of my earliest memories were with my dad gassing up his red and white 1959 Fairlane at a Standard Oil station down the street from our house. This was back in the day when as you drove into the station you drove over a black rubber hose that made the ding, ding sound, which alerted an attendant to come out to your vehicle. The reason why my dad liked this Standard station was because the attendant always washed the windshield while your gas was pumping, and was always more than happy to check the air in your tires or pop the hood and check the oil dipstick. If the attendant noticed you had a worn radiator hose or fan belt this station had a healthy inventory of these items and could be fixed in their service bay easily and quickly.

I am going down a similar route. Bought a 1950 LHD Riley RMA with a rinky-dink 55 hp 1 1/2 Liter DOHC engine from Joop Stolze in Rotterdam that gets 24 mpg with a single SU H2 carb and have all the same issues (master brake cylinder, interior) that befall these cars. I think I made a wise choice. My outlays are about 2 1/2 - 5 times smaller for new and used parts than the brands that burn their ways through our wallets (Porsche, RR and Bentley). One thing that amazed me was the (British) Riley RM Club with its friendly membership assistance through its Internet Forum and reasonable prices on new spare parts sourced by the club to keep the membership´s fleet of Riley RMs going....has all the workings of a well-run cooperative!

I worked at a Shell station out on Butterfield Rd in Glen Ellyn back in ‘73 & ‘74, and that is what we used for charge cards. Standard process at the time!

I owned a 1962 S2 for five years. A hoot and a holler for sure! I like your specialty RR tools-I had to "make" a couple myself.

Gary from Geneva here like your channel! Rolls story from my teen years is from about 67 or 68. A friend had a shop in Rockford and was doing body work on one of these. We were hanging around the shop somebody says "hey Gerrys has $.10 burgers today...we all piled into the Rolls and went Gerrys on 15th ave and ordered a bunch of burgers boy did we get some looks.

Very cool. Not your average rebuild. It’s a beautiful car. Looking forward to seeing her maiden voyage.

You got a heck of a good video on here man. I finally found somebody just like me. My whole 67 years of living, I gotta know how stuff works. I became a good mechanic because I screwed up a lot of stuff. Cutting things open. all that. I'm still a lousy plumber but hard to beat on cars.
