Yes it adjusts the rangefinder mechanism when it goes out of alignment. The red dot is just a cover.

I did feel a little attacked as I have a M-P (Typ 240) lol but the shutter sound on the M9 is glorious! I love it! So mechanical it makes you really *feel* like you captured the shot.

a5m sorry for the slight, but I’m using the same words as my other colleagues with M240’s and M246’s and M-D’s. all great cameras but with a loud shutter. I find it odd that it’s so loud even though it’s mirrorless.... the new M10-P is a great improvement and is probably the future of how a Leica digital shutter will sound like moving forward.... saying that, I still think the M240 is a great image making tool :-)

@@bigheadtaco Oh no it's okay I was just joking. I'm just an amateur hobbyist. I'm sure the people using them in the field regularly and professionally find the shutter too loud in certain situations. I will say that for shooting a Leica in a big city I wouldn't want to draw too much attention so anything to help with that including a quieter shutter will be a welcome feature moving forward :)

Specs wise, it's all you would ever need in a digital body. I'm a film Leica guy and if I were to ever drop $8000 on a digital camera that thing better last me 20 years... I wonder how well these newer ones will hold up compared to the older models which had lots of long term issues (sensors corroding?? wtf?).

It's nice but the features and associated costs are just a little too much. Gaffer tape will make the red dot disappear for a lot less. And an M with a touch screen seems like a disruption of the time/space continuum. I'm not a fan of these on cameras, especially the M. Quieter shutter is nice but the M10 isn't insanely loud to begin with.

$700 is definitely a premium to pay, but at least it's not just a cosmetic premium. I'm sure you can replace the red dot with an actual OEM cap for real cheap, and touch screen, I guess I've just to use to it when it comes to reviewing images. But you're right, I think the M10 was pretty much perfect for me anyway, and for my money I'd save the $700 and buy a vintage LTM collapsible lens.

That M10-P is almost as quiet as the X-H1 shutter. But you don’t feel anything on X-H1.

Yes, the X-H1 has an actual dampening mechanism to remove vibrations, while the M10-P is only to make the shutter quiet, not dampen the physical vibrations the shutter makes when closing...

I think the color difference you noticed is because the new M10-P is Black Chrome whereas the M Monochrom (Typ 246) is Black Paint. Contrary to the name Leica Black Chrome is more flat and Black Paint more glossy.

The Leica M246 Monochrom is also black chrome, it is definitely not black paint. My Leica M7 is also black chrome, not black paint. The new M10-P is considered black chrome, but it looks more matte than previous black chrome finishes. It looks and feels different.

@@bigheadtaco Oh yes my mistake, you are right, the M Monochrom (Typ 246) is also Black Chrome. Hmm I wonder what accounts for the difference in appearance and feel. I've heard that the Top and Bottom Plate on the M10 is no longer made of brass. Perhaps that's why? Unless Leica changed the actual finish itself.

I have the M10 which I really enjoy. BUT I'm not going to drink the Leica Kool-aide anymore and pay more money for less or some limited edition model. Its a suckers game. And I've got quite a few Leica products.

Super interesting comparison of shutter sounds of Ms, haven’t seen any other youtuber make this comparison before. I have an M-A and had no idea the shutter of the M7 was so much quiter :). But what happened to the film rewind of that M-A? Seems to have been replaced with that of the MP?

I should actually redo the test to be more accurate. Since my M7 had a lens on it, it muffled the shutter sound a bit. Comparing both of them with caps, I still feel the shutter on the M7 is quieter, although it’s also slightly different tone. As for the rewind knob, it’s a third party accessory to convert the standard rewind to a quick re-winder. It’s very popular.

I've seen a lot of KZbin videos of people showing Leica shutter sounds but because they're using decent or on-camera mics, on top of KZbin quality compression, I think a cool idea would be to use a really nice mic and record as many Leica shutters as possible, then post them to somewhere like Soundcloud for better audio listening.

I've heard different stories under different circumstances (sometimes they throw in, other times $50 or less) but as far as Leica is concerned, it's consider a 'part' and not an accessory, so it's more 'reasonably' priced....

The M10P sutter is by far the quietist of all Leicas including all the film leica bodies and even the new M10R. The damping you may feel happens after the exposure not prior, Honestly I don't feel anything. Since the advance of the electronically controlled shutters, as in the M7, the M7 was the quietest especially at a 15th of a second and below, where you will hear the wizz of the shutter mechanism after the exposure of all Leica M's prior to the M7. The M10P is by far the smoothest and quietest of all Leica shutters. the M10P is best Leica to date. It is even quieter than the M10D and new M10R. Indeed special Leica.

TravelJournalist.com you have to contact parts and service. I have a colleague who had his M10 serviced and got the black screw as a ‘part’. Leica retail won’t sell it to you like that.

Yes since you could all see this was a sealed box directly from Leica, unless it was a mistake, there's no full printed out manual. There isn't much to a digital Leica unlike most digital camera, but it would have been nice to have a properly printed one.

Nice unboxing Taco! Love your unboxing videos. They are all beautiful cameras. I just don’t want to see old technology sensor in new bodies Leica. The sensor Leica use is not powerfull in terms of dynamic range even it has 24 megapixel with big eye balls pixels on FF sensor. I don’t know why. I think the sensor on Leica M10 is not made by Sony. I hope we can see a sensor in Leica M11 deserves that much money...

GKhan Leica doesn’t use Sony sensors for their M’s. My guess is 36mp for the next gen (2-3 years) although 24mp is more than enough for me

GKhan I’ve never done a deep dive into who actually makes the sensors for Leica. Leica themselves don’t give that type of information, but in a way it’s a good thing they don’t use Sony. I don’t want Sony to monopolize the sensor market. It will actually slow down progress and innovation, which we’re already seeing

Fujifilm got rid of their sensor factory about 5 years ago as they were working on a joint venture with Panasonic on an organic sensor with a global shutter. It’s currently delayed with no release date, so my guess is that there’s a technological hurdle they can’t get past. Hopefully in the near future they can start producing their own sensors again, but it will probably be in collaboration with Panasonic. More players the better though. I want to see more sensor advancements and options. For instance, a true medium format sensor, a square sensor, a 16:9 or even 2:1 sensor (perhaps fusing two APS-C sensors together). I want some real format innovation, not just more megapixels or high ISO performance. Global shutter will probably be the next big technology leap.

@@akhyarrayhka4048 completely understand. The cropped sensor Leica cameras are often overlooked but are fantastic. The Leica T is the older generation sensor and processor, but can definitely take fantastic photos. Perhaps the new TL would be a better option, as bodies tend to become obsolete quicker in comparison to lenses. The line-up of the APS-C lenses are great, definitely more compact than the larger lenses for the SL line-up, even though they share a common mount. Also consider getting the M mount adapter and attaching vintage leica film lenses.

Two points for Leica to consider: 1. The shutter and VF of the M10-P should be fitted to the M-A. 2. Ditch the pointless Adobe software, which is basically an extended trial version. If anything I'd want a copy of Capture One or DxO. I haven't used anything Adobe in years.

Well, depends if you mean digital tradition, or the M tradition. If the later, then the first Leica M, the M3 didn't have a red dot. Neither did the subsequent M2, M4, M5...... not until the M4-P did it start appearing. However, over the years, many ltd editions remove the red dot to make it ultra exclusive....
