Recommendation: Put all of your hangers backwards. After you wear something, hang it back up with the hanger facing the proper way. This time next year, if you have anything still hanging backwards, dispose of it. Proof you don’t really need it!

But, buying clothes is a function of the channel. I say get rid of about half of everything. No one can wear that much. We all have favorites and s few special things. But, if she gets much more Amazon will be buying from her so I understand the hold on buying as well. I would have out the breaks on spending 3/4 of a closet ago. Great ideas.

Woah.... I'm only 5 min in and WOAH! that many clothes would be so overwhelming to me to try to pick out something to wear, I'd just give up and wear the same thing all the time. Decision fatigue is real! Lol

I definitely recommend solely using the thin velvet hangers. They make a HUGE difference in saving space. ❤️

LeighAnn, have you considered storing the items you’re not using “this” season in the garage? I store fall/winter in spring and summer and spring/summer in fall and winter. Allows me to have space in the closet without letting go of things I love.

I got rid of all of the 7 different types of hangers. I bought new ones that were all the same and made a huge difference. I also color code my clothes. Makes a huge difference and much easier to find things.

I use to hang each type together, you know like all my blouses, all my dress, pant etc but found I never touched certain items. I have a hard time putting together outfits BUT when I started in color order regardless of item, i find I'm picking more clothes to wear now.

Highly recommend velvet hangers and space saving hooks for the closet! The space saving hooks allow you to put like 10 items on hangers to the attachment and then it collapses vertically so you can store even moooooore things! As a New Yorker, they really come in handy.

FRIEND, I see you creating more work for yourself, which might be why you procrastinate in starting in the first place. I lovingly suggest that when you remove all of your clothes from the closet, you organize them as you hang them up; ie, hanging clothes in rainbow order, and in sections like: tank tops, short and long sleeve tees, blouses, light sweaters/cardigans, jackets, pants, skirts, dresses, etc... The other follower's funny comment about the Target Clearance rack is spot on. If you organize your own closet so that it feels like your favorite store, it will be easier and more exciting to get dressed.

Leighann you HAVE to get all matching hangers! I switched to black velvet hangers and it makes such a difference. Not only visually but they’re more narrow so it frees up a bit of space. They tend to me a little kinder to your clothes too. I love closet declutters so I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s video 😊

I did a major declutter three years ago. I got rid of 60% of my closet and shoes and only kept pieces that fit me and that I will wear. I love my clothes and have pieces I love. It isn't easy to stop the shopping cycle, but I did it... and I couldn't be happier!

Every time you talk about or do one of these videos, you inspire me to do the same. I'm a miniaturist and I'm always searching for fabrics suitable for miniatures. I can keep something AND get it out of my closet if it's useful for a miniature house or furniture. To squash the temptation to rescue it and put it back in my closet, I cut it apart so it's ready to put on a tiny wall or tiny something. Thank you for the inspiration!

Have you thought about buying the vacuum seal storage cubes where you vacuum out all the air and it makes them very flat and easy to store for all your winter clothes? It will open a ton of space in the closet and they will be so flat you'll be able to store them anywhere.

I LOVE when people upcycle clothes! I think giving an old garment a new life is an awesome thing to do (especially if it's a sentimental piece that you know you'd never wear again otherwise). Please do a video on it when/if you decide to turn that dress into a shirt!!

So I have been doing this thing with my clothes probably for 10 years. Anytime I buy one new item I get rid of five. I know, that might sound crazy. If you only have like a 20-30 piece wardrobe that's not going to make sense. But I buy a lot of shirts that I can wear to work and keep them in good condition take care of them and they can last a long time. So when I finally come around to buying one new piece there's probably some pieces that are pretty old and because they've been taking good care of can be donated. If you adopt a similar Theory even if it's just a one-for-one ratio, it might be really good for you. I've seen you do this closet declutter over and over again LOL. I feel like you are not a lost case and just have to come up with a good way to purge before you buy something new.

Hey Leighann, i hope you dont take this the wrong way, specially since its your money and you decide on how to spend it, but maybe you would consider adopting a more sustainable way to shop? not getting so many pieces, investing in more quality clothes and forsaking target and all of those brands that are so cheap they most likely use slave labour to produce their items. It is a very important issue and I would love to see content creators dive more into it! Also, one thing that really helps me keep my closet organized is the buy one, donate one rule! We moved back to the States, from Germany, in November. I didn’t declutter there because donations were super difficult to take in, so I just brought it aaaalllll with me. 😂👎🏻 Now I desperately need to get rid of clothes, and nothing is open to take them to! Love you, Leigh Ann! You’re my favorite youtuber. One thing I wanted to note, maybe you should stop doing clothing hauls until you get the closer situation under control? People don’t realize how much resources go in to creating clothes and it can be really hard on the environment. It’s kind of hard to watch this with SO many clothes and then to also see things being bought. Just a friendly thought and suggestions towards being a conscious consumer :)
