It was tough getting a clear read here as there was so much reverb. I went down the pickup rabbit hole again about 10 years ago, found that the differences where so subtle that most of the differences can be accomplished with an EQ in my signal chain. Infinitely more cost effective solution. Keith Merrow has a great pickup shout out video, all Seymour Duncans IIRC, again same thing very subtle differences.

6:39 I'm an LP guy and so in love with the humbucker sound but when he played the neck pickup, that dirty yet twangy really pleased my ears. Love that creamy and snappy tone.

Hey @LeighFugeGuitar thanks for the video! Did the mix switch still work with the upgraded pickups? And I heard the AZES40 would need modifying (at least the pickguard) to fit non-stock pickups - do you know if that's the case?

This is absolute nonsense. You cannot compare the sound of pickups with distortion or OD on, and so much reverb. Play clean, that will be a more honest comparison, otherwise it's irrelevant and I dare say BS. Sorry...

We're not reviewing or comparing anything as such, we're just talking about if it's worth upgrading an affordable guitar with good pickups. The overdrive is irrelevant, you can clearly hear differences between the pickup types regardless of what the amp is doing. Plus, if we played clean there would be other people here complaining that we didn't use overdrive. Sorry you feel it's BS/

Great video guys. Thank you. I personally love cheap guitars to upgrade and mod. I like to use a Fender pre-wired Tex-Mex SSS-pickguard on cheap Strats. If I want a humbucker in the bridge, I would definitely go for an EVH-Wolfgang Humbucker (or the "Frankenstrat" version), or install a Seymor-Duncan SH4 "JB" bridge humbucker. If its for a neck (in HH configuration) then a Seymor-Duncan SH-2N-Jazz humbucker is a great option. However, these can be expensive humbuckers. A more affordable type would be "Toneriders" . A UK company which makes some really good pickups and humbuckers with many types. I just discovered them recently and they are a great bang for the buck. Rock On !

I think, unless you're playing through decent amplification, an upgrade in pups is a waste of time

Its already been proven that adjustments in EQ Pedals in a chain can get you the same tonal shaping instead of changing pickups. Its all smoke and mirrors to get you to spend.

Throw lollers in a MIM Fender strat and call it a day. Don't believe me? Try it. Thank me later
