What's even more sad for me about the bad ending is that even though Maruki had made everyone's wish come true, he's still alone. Man sacrificed his own happy ending to give everyone their's.
@Tim7318-3 Жыл бұрын
In a way I think that technically is his “happy ending”, even if it means that he’s alone. Ensuring that nobody else has to go through the same pain that he did is something he would be happy about even if it meant that it’s not his true happiness.

Kinda yes. That I think was the point. To show that if Maruki succeeds, he won't find his peace as he thought he would. He would still remain broken and sad man, maybe even more. He needed that cold water bucket on his head to deal with the reality. Also, the bad ending is really disturbing. Not only because of Maruki, but because of how everyone behaves and the picture perfect in the cafe, with Akechi and Joker looking into the camera with this "I know what you did" look is really creepy.

Akechi learns to endure a lethal hit AFTER he learns to take a hit for joker, making the cutscene in Shido's palace still have a chance he survives as long as he learns endure (which he must've learned if at rank 10, therefore he appears in the ending cutscene if he reached rank 10)
@azk921810 ай бұрын
Interesting. I think that also lines up well with the promise he mades with Joker. So it could be interpreted as enduring Shido's palace, or Joker remembering him because of the promise, hence his appearance.

I kinda love how the game doesnt like reprimand you for choosing to take the offer, and it doesnt outright show you a "bad" ending. It gives you everything you wanted, and yet it still feels empty because you know the choice was wrong in the end. Leave it to a persona game to show you what would be considered a good ending in every other game and spinning it on its head. Such a masterpiece
@danzai10 ай бұрын
well it's truly left to interpretation, I think even your suggestion that it was wrong in the end is not incontrovertible. Maruki has the power to actually change reality. It's not an artificial one, but a real one that is indistinguishable. who's to say that this isn't any different from the 'true reality'.. some of the parents of the characters were killed due to the existence of the metaverse, such as Futaba's mum. Where is the injustice that she gets her mother back by the same phenomena that took her in the first place. Same with akechi, he went down this path due to his understanding of the metaverse, if he only knew that you could steal treasures rather than killing the shadow forms, he also didn't have to die. In my view this ending is just as reasonable as the "good" ending. Like you I agree that its great that the game doesn't reprimand you, but I would go further to say that it presents this ending on par with the other ending, and in many ways its arguable that it's the better ending.
@stygian66427 ай бұрын
@@danzai While it's definitely subjective, it bothers me that people are simplifying it as 'not the right thing' while it's something a lot more concrete than that. 'Free will' is so overused as a concept that it might make more sense to you if I phrase it as 'informed consent'. Sumire, for example, was informed of and consented to having her memories altered (the second time), even if she should have had more time to think about it, and if that was all Maruki did I might even cheer him on. But the fact that the rest of the world did not give consent to being put into a happiness coma, THAT'S my biggest issue with it. For my own subjective views, Joker had Akechi killed by accepting the deal, just as much as he would have when refusing it. That's not Akechi anymore, that's someone completely different. Still a real person, but not the same person Joker fell in love with (platonic(maybe)). Similarly, all the Phantom Thieves' memories were altered against their wills, and they're not the same people they were. Joker abandoned his original reality for another place entirely. He didn't 'keep' any of the relationships he had. For some even more subjective views, death is what gives life meaning. Sadness is what makes happiness matter so much. What's the point to happiness if it doesn't get you anywhere? It doesn't help you in any way, it isn't able to be distinguished as treasured memories, there's nothing concrete to it. The end credits made me realize - Maruki's reality is picture-perfect, it's not moving, nothing significant will change. Morgana says earlier, "What point would there be in only saving myself? Nobody could replace these guys, period." Joker is replacing his friends with better versions, after everyone else already rejected the new reality. He judged them as they were and found them wanting.
@AnthonyKagegariVT6 ай бұрын
I think that’s the beautiful overarching narrative of Persona 5 that ties it so well to the themes of Persona 3. The dichotomy of having “free will” taken away from everyone by a God fulfilling the desire of sloth versus a human who wants to take away all the pain and suffering comparable to the times of before the fall of man in Christianity (since the whole allegory being made in that palace is mostly Bible references). A lot of fantastical media pits the ideals of free will versus a preordained destiny against each other and a lot of times we never think much of it…but as humans we never had a choice in our birth (as far as we’re aware of anyways) and so how much of it is our own free will to determine our own lives? I think that is one of the most beautiful things about the game is that you get to choose, in this moment, what you believe…obviously the game determines one of them to be the better of the two options as Igor and Lavenza tell you so…but it’s hard to say whether life is predetermined for us, or we make our own choices each day, suffer, and change until the day we die…which is why we think so highly of a perfected ideal world or self…
@LuminousArc92 Жыл бұрын
it's always interesting to compare the two awakenings for Kasumi and Sumire as Kasumi the mask came off easy because it was a false self, no blood, she got a magical girl sequence like Cinderella being disguised to go to the ball, if you listen to what Cendrillon says and how she says it she comes off as hostile. "rather than accept a life in cinders, you'd strive towards splendor? You know the risks. Still, if those are the shoes you've chosen, then we'll dance to the end. I am thou, thou art I. Accept this contract, the spell cast upon you" Maruki literally cast a spell on her as Sumire the mask is really hard to tear off, lots of blood, yet Cendrillon this time is soft and gentle in what she says and how. "Such tenacity. It seems to fit you better than ever before. The glass slippers are the icon of glory. Not just for you, but the other girl within you as well. I am thou, thou art I. Are you prepared for your debut? The ball awaits" Kasumi's spirit is what reforms the broken Cenrillon persona

Two nice details on the 3rd Semester Endings i like. For the "Ideal Reality" ending, Joker's glasses are completely fogged up, refusing to see the truth. The credits being different in more ways than one is great too. In "Ideal" they are all stagnant pictures detailing the perfect lives that will never REALLY move forward, with some even moving back. "True Reality" shows a small animated cutscene, showing that the PTs refuse to stay stagnant and instead move forward.

Royal is the best DLC or whatever you want to call it for any game ever and that's a hill I'll die on. Maruki is the perfect antagonist because his points are all entirely valid and there's really no clear cut answer as to which is the "good" ending. That's why fighting him is so heartbreaking. Even if you ultimately believe he's wrong to manipulate people, you can't deny his good intentions.

@@Artificial-Insanity Number 1 : Yes the PTs did a mistake. In a way. That's the point of the Yaldabaoth arc in the first place. Their corrupt magical power had consequences and was in fact, brainwashing. True. People have a freedom to be evil ( until they get caught ), if that evolve into their personality into being tied with this fact, then making them good by stealing their god damn ddsires ( nightmare fuel ) is erasing their identity. The PTs learned the hard way that no matter how hard things are, using such methods does not just produce good things. However. HOWEVER Number 2 : Oppression from people in positions of power of society does not allow the oppressed to obey the law or morality to defend themselves. Situations like Kamoshida asked for a necessary clapback, and while the rest of the rulers werent' as bad as him or Shido, they put people in positions so dangerous that their legitimacy was out of question, it's do or die against people who win the game of life in every conceivable way. Could situations like Haru be fought hard against legally yes, was Makoto's situation with Kaneshiro possible to fight if she didn't fear Sae because of what she said yes, they can try and put in more effort if they dare take the risk to get away from the shit they got themselves into. BUT. This is NOT comparable to Maruki's insane plan to "fix" the world against people's consent and fitting his own completely delusional views. He would brainwash you because he sees you on the street doing nothing, change your whole fucking life without asking and without caring for a second what you want, it's all about what HE wants you to want. He is not doing it to defend himself. He is doing it because he thinks he is the god damn ultimate savior guide. This man is massively evil regardless of his good intent because of how anti-life itself his plan is. Neither the way he goes about it nor his goal is in any form good or valid. Man sees a girl in his office for the first time, spends 5 minutes with her and has her ignore her trauma in the worst fucking way possible, literally deleting the skills and identity she built like cooking. He killed Sumire's identity. This is what he does to people. And that's ignoring the PTs reasons to fight back, because they could have thrown all of this at his face if needed. Finally number 3 : Maruki's only point was that some people can't handle trauma, well tough luck but that's life, and unfortunately, the only answer to that is that hardships are ordeals and that things that can't be handled alone need to be handled together. We're supposed to fight back against such things, it's not just that they can and could happen, it's that they WILL happen. Because there is a risk of failing, the risk of success gets meaning. Just like because you will die that living is interesting. His idealistic ideas would lead mankind to extreme self destructive nihilism ( it follows P2's theme in that regard ), symbolized by the Velvet Room ( human's potential to grow ) to get weaker.
@vaguerenter Жыл бұрын
It’s a quiet evil. Maruki isn’t affected by his own false reality, but if he was, he’d be reunited with Rumi and lose his entire motivation to save the world. Suffering leads to love and empathy. It’s weakness, not goodness. If you notice the NPC dialogue, people start to fall apart and lose all motivation. The struggle sustains us, and it’s how we grow. Just like every Persona user facing and accepting themselves.

Akechi did say that he would be able to rely on Joker in a pinch presumably due to Joker’s adaptability along with his capabilities, it was probably foreshadowing their potential for creating a showtime. Despite being on opposing sides for most of the game they do have great synergy together, heck Akechi had a 2nd persona that was already in its 2nd state way before Joker while also further boosting his own power by “removing the shackles in his heart” and Joker was still able to make up the difference between them and come out on top during their confrontation in Shido’s palace so Akechi knows firsthand that he can improvise on the spot and Joker is able keep up with whatever is thrown in his way.

Thank You for taking us along on your P5 Royal Journey by creating and sharing this great video (and all the other Journey videos too)! I know A LOT of work/time/care goes into creating these videos, so again, THANK YOU for your commitment to seeing these types of videos threw to the end! Kudos to you!

This game has always been very special to me. And to see your experience and perspective on it has truly been a blessing. I'm feeling old things all over again and learning new things too and I thank you for that and for sharing your experience with us

thank you leigh, for this magical and wonderful journey. P5R is my favourite game of all time, the characters and certain scenes just hit every single time. It's something quite unlike I have ever experienced. And I always felt very alone in that, which is tough. But watching this playthrough, joining the community led to me to a place that understands me, that I connect with. And just watching this edit of the game at the beginning made me cry. It's something truly special and your editing, enthusiasm and words make it even better. Very good job! Rest up now, the game is over but the Phantom Thieves will stay with you forever

absolutely masterful editing in all 5 of these videos. cutting out most of the gameplay sections except when something clearly outstanding happens, and keeping in all plot relevant cutscenes makes for a great viewing experience. this might be the only P5 playthrough that I’ve watched the entire way through without skipping any videos/sections. very refreshing to see someone that can get as invested in the story/characters as much as you did. hope to see P3R as well in the future but it’s clear that you put a lot of time/effort/care into the videos, so even if the wait may be a while, very much looking forward to whatever else you have to put out.

One of the most important games I've played. Both the original and Royal came into my life exactly when I needed them most. So glad people are getting to enjoy it.

Just a little detail I like at the end of the credits when you take the offer: in the final image, both Akechi and Joker are looking at the camera, possibly showing that they both know and that even Akechi still remembers what happened but possibly due to Maruki's abilities, he doesn't care anymore, his old self is gone and he's perfectly content staying in this reality now.

You know how amazing a game is when it brings out this much emotion in somone. Persona 5 and Royal are absolutely one of the greatest games ever. I can't wait to see what they do with P6 but, with P5 being my first in the Persona series, it will always be my favourite. Even after being able to play P3 and 4 as they've come to ps. Sharing this journey with you has been awesome. I always love to see people experience this masterpiece for the first time. Thanks for the awesome videos!

It sucks that after beating a game that you’re so well-invested in you’re just left with… nothing. I felt empty for like the next couple of weeks after beating P5R. Such an amazing game that I wish that I could experience all over again

Won't lie after my first playthrough of P5, i actually started over and played it all again. (The original P5 I mean). Since then I've played Royale twice, bringing my playthroughs total up to 5 and around 600 hours or more. Don't really regret any of it. I got something out of all of them. Even if long.

I really love the reactions do the "Dream world", the "What a f***" when Futaba tell about her mother, Haru about her Father, Human Morgana :'3 is always a "For Donouts and pancakes, what a freak is happening?!?!" And of corse, when Akechi arrive, "Please, save me, tell me you still hate me my beloved pancake-boy!!! Tell me!!!"

I love the detail that everyone I've seen has always picked 'I'm Sorry' as their response to Maruki at the top of Eden... it's truly incredible how everyone agrees that what happens is never what either side wanted, but it's what had to be done.

I've watched so many reaction videos of Royal content and your reactions are the best! I cracked up, laughed, and also teared up. Congrats on beating the game! I also felt it ripped open my emotions hard and left me with a huge void ever since I beat it, but I know I'm not alone in feeling this. It's an experience and an emotional journey of a lifetime that I'll never forget.

1:19:15 your breakdown over realizing Akechi's fate is SO real😭on a side note it's also what i found to be really funny cuz Atlus wants player's attachment to akechi to affect their decision, so when it comes to this point those who don't gaf about akechi are like "so what idgaf about him anyway" and those like you are like screaming crying rolling on the floor

Leigh, I’m so happy that you got to play this game. Your play through made me fall in love with this game all over again. Part of why I want a Persona 5 Arena so badly is the hope… the HOPE that our bad boi Akechi shows up as playable to confirm everything for real. (And being a fighting game fan, I want him to have a badass moveset and Arc System Works can provide!)

The scene in which Maruki falls down and reaches towards the stars in defeat is near identical to when Joker does the same while the Phantom Thieves cease to exist. Perhaps the metaphorical coin has not two sides, but three. Maruki doesn't have the power of the Wild Card, but his sheer will of rebellion is unmatched.

1:26:00 I played through the last palace section and managed to stay relatively composed. I was stunned by Maruki's palace and motivations, and I was genuinely upset about Akechi's involvement and the tragedy behind it. However, I generally kept myself together pretty well and got through it. Something about seeing someone playing it and being utterly devastated just broke me, even though I knew every beat of the story. I was sobbing and ugly crying right along with Leigh even after a relatively composed playthrough a year ago. Something about my empathetic mirror neurons could not handle seeing such a wholesome person so heartbroken :(
