+Javier Cardoso I feel like it was the time the joke was made as well as the way the joke was presented. TMNT isn't that bad a movie and Mako is a damn good actor. What hurt Critic is the fact that Mako actually did die in a similar way to what was being joked about (smoking too many cigarettes) and being the oversensitive Internet (though in this case, I can see why people overreacted since they might have assumed he was joking about how he died) they took personal offense in it.

Anthony Clay Norris is a true martial artist from his time, who has much respect for high level martial arts of today (MMA). Unlike a lot of "martial arts actors" of his times he actually has a competitive record. He was also ahead of the curve by being one of the first americans to start practicing jiu jitsu (under the Machados if I am correct). On behalf of Jonathan Brandis' character, he's a teenage boy, so of course he's going to think outlandish fantasies, whether they're about his teacher, his crush, or real life bullies that he projects onto larger than life villains. Sure, he's always saving his teacher, and then his crush, from being killed, in his fantasies, because he's a kid, and all boys want to be the hero in their own mind. I enjoyed Mako's character, because he different from Miyagi as a teacher. I was an imaginative, unathletic kid. Now, I'm an imaginative, unathletic adult. The difference is that I didn't try to go after Winnie Cooper, a girl who doesn't know what she wants. There lies the rub.
