Melt the butter then mix into cake mix so it’s like cookie dough, then crumble over the filling. It’s much easier and distributes better than pats of butter on dry mix.

Should of used a bigger pan for the box of cake mix. I've made many dump cakes and it makes a big cake. You could of used two cans of pie filling for abig cake.

You don't shred it. The Original Dump Cake recipe from the 70s sliced the butter & placed on top of cake mix. I've been making it that way ever since, comes out perfect.
