I had to watch a few of your podcasts again Jack. So sad you are gone but you are not forgotten!

Hell ya! I know all about that being a college student and having only $2 at a time....even when I was working part time evenings, after I paid the rent, gassed up my trusty old Datsun that I drove all the way from Noank, Conn. to San Francisco.....I was living on Burritos from a really fine old cheap family owned Mexican restaurant in Oakland....Burritos, coffee, and bagels....and I survived....and now cookin' with the blues....take care of yourself, Jack, do your meds, exercise....your videos, your warmth, your candor, your neighborliness, your all American bluesiness have been a mainstay for a lot of us here in the confinement of the pandemic....

Hi Patrick, You're from Noank? Abbott's and Ford Lobster! Beautiful part of the world! I lived out in San Fran for a few years, loved the weather out there! I think Cali. Mexican food is some of the best I've ever had. Can't find anywhere good here! There were hard days but they were good days full of struggles but great looking back. Thank you for being a true person and sharing your great stories with us as you make those easy meals. I have seven brothers and one sister and my father passed at age 39 and left my mother with a heck of a chore of feeding these baby birds with what little money she would get from his work and ssi . So when you speak of your mother and her cooking it brings back great memories of the holidays and the few goodies we would get. I love watching your youtube show and love to see how easy and fun you make cooking . And you surround your self with many great friends. I became a firefighter for 35years in California and loved making meals for my crew and would tell them about the wonderful meals my mother would make out of nothing$$$$$$ . So keep up the great work and those great stories. Thanks Jackson!!

Wow that was young to lose your Dad, I lost mine when I he was 56 and I thought that was young. Your Mom sounds like one heck of a great lady raising you all. Things are real hard these days for the cali. firefighters, you must have seen a lot in your time! What part of California, I was in the Bay Area for a few years and loved it, never should have left! I come from a family with eight kids and we were not poor but certainly not middle class. What my Mom could do with just a few simple and cheap ingredients was amazing. I'm 66 years old and still cook some of those dishes. I know there's lot's of great recipes out there but the old simple ones still make me satisfied and happy.

This too is one of my favorite videos of his. I love his personal anecdotes. I'm not an anxious person myself but I can absolutely see how DJ relaxed you. I texted back and forth with him many times. I always told him I was the president of the Montana contingent of his fan club. I seriously had plans to go out east and meet him. Then 2020 happened and I just waited too long. Heartbreaking. It's crazy how everyone seemed to love and venerate him. Well deserved. What an amazing man and an amazing life lived...

I learned to cook in college out of necessity. Mom was an excellent cook, but that ended when I went to school. I harvested a doe whitetail deer in central Indiana that year which fed me and my roommate for most of the spring semester. So many dishes can be made with ground venison. Mix it with a little ground chuck and or pork or pork sausage and it can't be beat. Deer were pretty rare in the area at the time (1986), but boy was I appreciative of my fortune. No pun intended, but I quickly learned to cook venison rare for the best flavor and flavour. Particularly the steaks. Nice video Jack

Scott, Venison is great if handled properly and hung to dry out. I do a venison cordon Bleu for a friend, he brings me the backstop and I stuff it with Swiss and ham, brush with dijon and then bread it and pan frying. Finish in the oven. a real crowd pleaser!
