My buns don't smell and neither does my apartment as long as the litter boxes are clean. The only way people know we have bunnies (besides my 9lb girl coming up to say hello to anyone who walks in the door) is because as I've been told my place smells like hay 😂. Even my clean freak mom finds the smell of hay to be nice.

I invested in a roomba, and it was the best money I have ever spent. I have two buns that are cage free, so having a roomba to help me with the daily sweep has been amazing for dust and hair control. They were totally spooked at first, but now it will literally run into them and they just sit there like, "can we help you?" and it has to scoot around them lol 10/10 would recommend!!

There's so much information on them its a bit overwhelming when researching and seeing the many options on things like their habitat and different flooring, but your page really summarizes it all and makes the whole thing a lot less daunting!

My bunny is super clean as well and I believe that she is because I made it a point to make her associate her litter box with something fun and with it being a safe space to relax and feel comfortable. You’ve helped me so much with my rabbit, I remember when I first got her from a flea market and they sold me a ginuea pig cage to keep her in. I found you a week later and started free roaming her. She loves roaming around and I find it to be less messy because there’s no bulky cage, I have cats so it’s really just one more litter box, a plate, and hay basket, and a water bowl. If it weren’t for your videos I don’t think my rabbit would have such a happy life, she even chases my cats around to play with them and sleeps on the couch with me and comes to the door when I get home. A cage wouldn’t allow her any of that freedom. Thanks so much for your videos! ❤️❤️

I was given a bunny named Peter from a family that couldn't take care of him because they were scared of him after he had been gifted to them by some friends. I know nothing about his background like what breed he is or if he's neutered or not or even what age he is. All I know is that the only reason the previous family had been scared of him because he has really long and sharp nails. He lives in a bunny cage, it's fairly big but recently he's been trying to escape from if by trying to lift this opening from above the cage. He's a good boy since when I let him out, when and he no longer wants to be out, he returns to his cage. Recently though he's begun to nibble at me a lot. Even lick me but mainly nibbling. Is there like a certain meaning behind that or maybe a way to let him know when he nibbles too hard? Along with some other tips as to what I could do as a newbie to caring for him? I really just want him to be happy and definitely get him to be a free-roam bunny as soon as I can.
@junebug3354
@junebug3354 5 жыл бұрын
The little nibbles along with the licks is he is loving on you. He's trying to groom you like he would another rabbit. Rabbits will also give you a little nibble to tell you a move. To teach him bite inhibition (how to not bite you too hard) everytime he nibbles too hard make a loud squeak/scream as a rabbit would. It lets him know he's hurting you, he doesn't want to hurt you so he'll learn to be more gentle. Also you need to get his nails clipped he can hurt his little paws if they're too long. I did all of this with my bunny girl and she's all well and trained in those areas now ^_^. Read the House Rabbit Handbook and watch Lennons videos! They'll give you all the info you need on rabbits. There is also the house rabbit association website that has rabbit info too!

Congrats on rescuing your bunny. I'd suggest taking him for a wellness check at the vet's office. If his claws are too long, they'll be able to trim them. The vet will also be able to tell you if he's been neutered or not ( although, truth to tell, intact male bunnies are easy to tell... like all rodents, the males have rather large testicles). If he does need to be neutered, they'll be able to tell you how much that will cost.
@reenajoubert
@reenajoubert 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly his previous owners sound really neglectful. It's lucky he was able to get a better home with you. Rabbits need regular nail trimmings, which can be done at a vet, or at home if you know how and are confident. Living in a cage can make rabbits aggressive and antisocial, and they feel like you are invading their territory whenever you reach in, because they have so little space that is their own (imagine how mad a cat would be if it was kept in a cage, and then realize rabbits are just as intelligent and independent!). In addition, neutering is often essential for a rabbit to be well behaved and have a good life as a housepet. So, the two best things I think you can do right now are (1) replace the cage with an x-pen and (2) take him for a vet appointment to find out if he is neutered and if he needs any health care. The x-pen can serve as a transitional space until you are ready to have him free roam. It also makes a good confined space to start litterbox training and to prevent him from running around too much when recovering from neuter surgery. You can put a spillproof tablecloth or pee-proof doggie blanket beneath it to protect your flooring until he is trained. When you are ready to transition to free roaming, begin by letting him out of the x-pen for supervised playtime a few hours a day. This will let you see what kinds of trouble he is likely to get into, and then you can gradually start rabbit proofing your house. It will also give you an opportunity to intervene and put him in his litterbox if he tries to pee or poop. Increase his playtime as reward for good litterbox habits. Here is a reddit thread with advice for new rabbit owners. It includes links to example setups and where you can buy an x-pen www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/a0ub64/any_advice_for_a_new_rabbit_owner/eal5e3s

I agree it sounds as if Peter's previous family was not properly caring for him, so a vet checkup is definitely a good idea, to make sure everything is okay. Lots of good advice on here already, so one thing that helped me is weighing your pet weekly or daily. This is not required as the vet weighs your rabbit during checkups, but it's a good way to catch illnesses early. (You can use a pet scale or use a regular scale by weighing yourself, then you holding Peter and subtracting the difference.) The weight should be consistent especially if done at the same time of day. Any change that is more than a pound is not normal. Other oddities that indicate illness is "gasping" (rabbits are incapable of breathing through their mouth because of the build of their tracheae, but will make "gasping" movements if there is a blockage, inflammation or just not getting enough air) Putrid odors from ears (infections) glossy eyes (should be bright and alert) and dry, flakey skin (dehydration, and rabbit skin is very elastic). Also rabbits have two kinds of fecal matter. One is goopey and soft (rabbits eat these cecotropes) and the other look like whole cloves are are usually 1/2-1 cm in diameter. I hope this is not overwhelming and a lot of these checks can be done while playing with your rabbits, feeding them and cleaning their environment. I've had a lot of experience with rabbits being sick, unfortunately, (and part of this is in my earlier rabbit experience was with misguided information) so these are things I became attuned to. The important thing is rabbits are prey animals and naturally try to hide their illness. By learning about your rabbits wonderful quirks and patterns of behavior, you'll learn what is normal for them. I wish you both the best of luck and happiness.

My bunny Emo is celebrating his first-year anniversary in our home today. We just transitioned him from a large ex-pen to free roam, and he is doing really well. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks to make it easier. I would say that being in tune with your bunny and taking the time to really observe him or her is key. Once you know what interests them, what frightens them, what kinds of messes they make, you can deal with each one.

Not most scented candles, though! Some scents and essential oils can hurt sensitive pets, including dogs or cats.

I'm impressed you are able to manage sweeping every day. At our house, it turns into what I call the Broom Game with rabbits chasing the broom, sitting in the dustpan, kicking piles every which way, chewing on bristles, and being as unhelpful as rabbitly possible. It's more an exercise in pet entertainment than housecleaning. We all collapse in an exhausted heap afterwards.

if I keep my bunny in a playpen and let it out to run around my room when I get back from school is that ok? and also my house has hardwood floors, if I put fleece blankets onto the bottom of the playpen is my bunny likely to chew and destroy them?
@rodentwatch4294
@rodentwatch4294 4 жыл бұрын
My bunny has a playpen with fleece at the bottom, and doesn't chew it, but all bunnies are diffrent. If your bunny does chew it, she may be bored, so provide lots of toys😊

3:01 I cut grass at the end of the street on the meadow. I bring it home and dry it. That is how I make my own hay! So I can choose my hay to be the best quality for my rabbits. Also it is free, so I don't have to pay for it. only in the winter when I run out of hay.

My rabbit, Benjamin is so crazy so when I let him out of his cage, he has to stay in my room only. And I have a leash for him but he doesn't let us put it on him. If u want to see what he looks like, go to Benjamin Mancini on KZbin EDIT: Thanks For The Heart And Also Do You Have Any Tips That Could Help Me With My Problem
@reenajoubert
@reenajoubert 5 жыл бұрын
Is Benjamin neutered? If not, you really should do that. It'll calm him down and make him happier. If you can, attach an x-pen to his cage so he has more space. Cages aren't really big enough for rabbits and they feel very cooped up, so they can't get enough exercise. When you need to put him back in the pen, lure him with a treat rather than picking him up or chasing him, so he feels like it's his own choice and he doesn't get mad at you. Here's how to get a rabbit used to wearing a harness and leash: www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/a6uiqk/advice_for_harness_training_a_rabbit/ebye9ek X-pen: www.chewy.com/frisco-dog-exercise-pen-step-through/dp/125051

My mini Rex is not spayed.where I live in Northern New Hampshire there's not any veterinarians that are real familiar with rabbits
@reenajoubert
@reenajoubert 5 жыл бұрын
There are definitely some in Southern NH and Massachusetts! It's definitely worth getting it done, even if you have to make a long drive. This list has some vets who may be able to do it: wabbitwiki.com/wiki/New_Hampshire Just make sure you ask them how many rabbits they've spayed and what their complication rate is. Having a good, experienced vet do the surgery makes a big difference. It's a good idea to get quotes from a few places to make sure you get a good price, too. And here's more about why it's important: www.goddardvetgroup.co.uk/do-rabbits-really-get-womb-cancer/

@@redwing8128 ... Try using Google. The word you need to look for is if they handle "exotics". That is the catch-all phrase for anything that isn't a dog or cat. Then start making phone calls. You can also try checking to see if there's any bunny pet breeders nearby and ask them for recommendations.

@@redwing8128 I'm in California now but lived in New England for 25 years. Always happy to help a rabbit :-) I took a quick look at what's available on the Canadian side of the border and this vet clinic in Sherbrooke appears to do rabbit surgery: veterinairesherbrooke.ca/animaux-de-compagnie/services/medecine-des-animaux-exotiques/ - luckily I have a translating extension on my browser to decipher the French.

I know you don't know me, to be honest i'm just another human on earth. :) BUT! I wanted to say: Thank you so so so so much. My mom and dad has said no to freeeroaming for around 4 months, cause my sister did and she ruined the room (she ripped all the paint off the walls without asking, she let them roam without perm, and etc. ) so she thought i'd do the same, I asked her again today, and started sharing all the ideas and facts i knew about them, because of you. They said yes!!! They said to deep clean my room, and No coards whatsoever, to move everything into the guest room! So i want to say from deep in my heart: Thank you for making my dream come true

I have an airbnb by the water and between the guests and sand and rabbits and everything, I found it soooo much easier to use my dollar store broom, you know the ones with the nylon that weight nothing, I sweep everything in the corner in 2 secs catch it up with the dustpan and vacuum the rest of the sand etc. its a foolproof method, I gave up on vacuums a long time ago

I've had my beautiful Havana bunny girl for six days. today she finally embraced her toilet and used it! such a proud mama. ;) it's so interesting to see how in under one week, she has already shown such progress. she's jumping around and letting me pet her and she doesn't get as startled anymore. she's such a good bun bun. she had been sitting in a small cage for 5 months when i found her... so I am SO happy she is doing well :) I don't know if you've seen my messeges before, but i'll just like to say once again, that you really inspired me to get a bunny and help out the ones that are in need. you have given me great ideas and taught me how to take care of my girl in the best way. so THANK you very much. p.s I really adore all your videos. You always make such lovely aesthetically pleasing ones - and your piano music is just the best. I think i probably watch you every day. it's just so comforting and nice to watch you and lennon. don't know why. it's makes me feel happy. Have a great day Lorelai - and Lenny. :)

Mine stay in their play pen over night, too. I feel more comfy, because they are always up to mischief if not looked after 😎 think as long as they have plenty space in their pen and opportunity for a longer hop every day, that should be ok. Or what do you think, Lennies? 😗

Yep! My bunny goes crazy when I get the vacuum out! But despite the litter tray he's one for gracing the place with droppings. He's Male and is telling me he owns everything where as my previous bunny, a female, sadly missed, didn't poop much. Definitely a Male thing going by previous Male bunnies I've had!!! But yes, he hates the vacuum. Previous bun didn't. She just let me get on with my cleaning. In fact she would take a nap!!! xx
