I go walking up to Lennox castle now, it’s abandoned and has such a sad feeling about it.

I have cared for men in their 50s who were put into hospital temporarily when they wer 4 or 5 and left to rot for that entire lives. So, yes, it's true.

The government changed it to a maternity hospital during the War and I was born there on July 14, 1945. My mother and brothers had been evacuated from Bridgeton Glasgow and lived at Torrance castle which the government had also commandeered to house Glasgow mothers and children (so I guess I 'lived' there too...)

Since a quarter of all the patients in Lennox Castle were routinely found to be "grossly underweight" and many died from starvation and dehydration due to lack of basic care from staff, I think you'll find they didn't have to search too hard to find people who had bad experiences there.

The NHS was permitted a daily budget for rations - acute hospitals got the most, then mental hospitals, and hospitals for people with learning disabilities got the least - they were supposed to grown their own food, I think!

Absolute nonsense, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

What people do not know is that Learning disability is a VERY VERY large field in medical science , like psychiatry, Without great knowledge in the field , it would be impossible to pass judgement ,in any aspect of the care of the mentally handicapped. Individual Views and opinions on the subject change , from year to year and from person to person.

Even 3 years ago, 'handicapped' was not an appropriate term to use - move with the times!
