@Dave Z I think it's because of his mellow character and who he was predecessors of. The intensity and energy of tyson shocked the boxing world. Both his brutal knockouts in the ring and drama outside of the ring. Then "boring" Lennox Lewis comes around and people aren't as interested. It's an unfortunate reality of the herd like sheeple masses. But at the end of the day instant satisfaction, drama, and entertainment sells. Actually taking a step back and looking at the skills and mechanics of a successful athlete is "boring." Lennox had the talent and the skills but didn't have the bling. People who are fans of boxing appreciate Lennox Lewis. But fighters like Muhammad Ali or mike tyson drew in the broader band wagon fans for the drama and entertainment. And that's not to take away from Muhammad Ali or tyson neither. Point is Muhammad Ali and mike tyson had both the boxing fans and the drama and entertainment band wagon fans where Lennox Lewis only had the boxing fans.

I remember seeing Mike Tyson in New York after his retirement doing some jogging. Couldn’t say anything. The street was empty and he passed me by while I was starring at him in unbelief. He wasn’t very big or anything just a regular guy jogging. Back then he was considered a freak show more than anything. No one could have foreseen his drastic transformation coming.

I remember this HBO special on who was going to rule the roost in the heavyweight division, with Tyson in jail. They put up 4 photos of the 4 contenders and I remember 3 of them, Bowe, Holyfield, Lewis and maybe Mercer. I was hoping Holyfield would rise to the top. I knew the least about Lewis. After watching these epic heavyweights battle it out, I learned to like all of them, but probably Lewis is my favorite. He went down, I think twice, from more 'journeyman' type guys who worked up a hatred for him, because I don't think there's ever been a heavyweight, with tremendous skill and the cool English voice and the cool appearance, like Lewis. If Lewis were more a typical looking boxer, he wouldna lost a bunch of those times. Boxers always talk about how chicks are drawn to them, and Lewis was getting probably a lot of attention from 'smart' chicks, too. Really great to see Lenox Lewis, looking good, speaking the same way. No reason why he can't carry that into his later years if he survived a very high level era in heavyweight boxing. That fight with Tyson, Lewis' jab was a tree trunk extending into Tyson's head. If you want to see something cool, watch Tyson VS Golota and Lewis VS Golota, after Golota effectively ended Bowe's career with those low blows. Pretty interesting stuff. It's sort of like . . pick your poison.
