As always, it's great to see a proper programme about cars (Yes, two 'm's and an 'e' at the end - I'm British!). I can only admire you guys for the sheer entertainment value of your conversations, but always underpinned by solid understanding of the subjects. So many commercial productions give no detail, no understanding of the car. When I hear our local boy racers with their multispeed DSG gearbox Audis etc. zooming down the road with the instant snap gear changes I cringe. Yes, I know they can accelerate faster and yes, they are an interesting development, but it can't be as involving as a manual box. By the way, the reason some of us older guys won't buy some cars is because they are automatics (Are you listening in Stuttgart?)

I miss the lightness of 70-90 automobiles. Even a $4000 Mazda GLC with a 5 speed was a absolute ball to take out on a twisty road. A Skyline is a perfect example of that formula with the added joy of the twin turbo I6.

Those Skyline seats look like a dream to sit in. If Nissan truly brings back the Skyline in electric, it better be a new iteration of THE CAR, but in high performance electric.... Something to compete directly with Tesla's Plaid... Audi is about to come crashing into the party with their car, in the same class. They built a custom version just for Ken Block to drive in the Elektrikhana video. RS E-Tron GT dubbed "Hoonitron".

As always I thoroughly enjoyed the cars. As for the dwindling manual transmission Hondas Civic STi comes only with a manual transmission. 6 speed I believe. But I think Donald is correct in that the manual trans will make a comeback. Btw... my everyday driver is a 5speed S10. It only becomes annoying when I'm in traffic. So I try to take the less traveled roads as much as possible. Which also makes driving in general more fun. Another great video guys.

Dang, the one state on the continent I haven't been to. That's right, even Alaska, but have somehow missed Rhode Island. See my avatar, it and 3 other bikes I've had came from a dealer less than 35 miles from Rhode Island and still have not been there! Boston drivers are that scary...

Actually, the 25 year exemption no longer applies in Rhode Island, Maine, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. Their DOTs have been revoking registrations of privately imported vintage foreign cars on the grounds of being right hand drive and not meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (even though the federal government does not require 25+ year old cars to do so and has never required left hand drive for any vehicle).

Mr. Osborne made me laugh when he mentioned the swapped levers. Reminds me of getting to an intersection and accidentally selecting the wipers instead of indicators to which the vehicle opposite was like "is this guy with it today?..." Driving over the yellow thinking your on the left side lasts until you get frantically flashed by a perplexed motorist. I think rhd's are the best cars usually but the gearshifter location is actually irrelevant. Leno is right, it enhances the experience. It's also a useful skill.

Hee, on the R32, I think the closest American equivalent is maybe like a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe wished it could be, more or less, or some other attempt to compete with like BMWs of the time. (Or maybe stretching things a bit, like a Buick Grand National, hot and more 'high tech' versions of personal comfy coupes. ) As for the market for manuals, I really think marketing has self-strangled the market for those a lot. The harder they are to get, the fewer people even learn to drive or appreciate them, ...and making them only available on the most imprctical performance editions of things further limits the market. Especially if paddle-shifters are ostensibly better the more silly the hosrsepower gets. I really miss the practical little hatchback just made for perky handling and some engagement to squeeze some driving fun into a routine day. It's very easy to get more acceleration and capability than you need, much harder to get that nice and relatively pure experience, so automatics have been self-fulfilling market projections that way. Makes me think of how womens' jeans got impractical for decades, so if you didn't want the obligatory bare-midriff look for decades you'd end up taking old favorites out of the work clothes bin instead of buying something new, cause they didn't *make* em... Then when some marketers see a certain subset of us walking around in old black jeans, they decide to make some more ...but pre-'distressed' and worse-made. (No, the idea wasn't an 'old jeans' look, or there being holes by choice, it was just the only jeans we had left. See?)

Subaru says 85% of WRX buyers select a manual transmission. Miata and the 86 twins that i see are usually manual and the new Z is gonna be available with a manual. It's not over yet.
