LOL XD i guess i ought to sell my 4k HP omen then...no issues so far and i baby it in my laptop backpack no screen issues so far. I need at least a 3060 or 2070 max q of gpu power for my needs. ALSO i feel like using the same/gen cooling for zen3 is just an impossibility in most cases other than the larger cooling systems zen3 cannot push near or past 35w on cpu with a gpu load at 100w+. I doubt most zen3 systems are pushing competitive frame yeilds other than lenovo xmg and a few other options due to cooling and how the inherent boost aspects are.

duel rank matters a LOT for ryzen and fabric. Just the inherent way it utilizes ram and the cpu utilizes cache. Duel rank on a duel channel system acts like quad channel single rank(which turns into duel rank) bc of orientation/quad channel. Which is a more ideal setting for AMD to equate to performance. I think ill just think about a 32gb kit if im going through the effort to open it up. The samsung gen3 drive seems pretty good for a stock drive/included drive compared to most of what the other brands use a 2000 read/write range drive. But im sure for the smaller files it hiccups.

I just took delivery of a Legion 5 Pro 2021 - same specs except I have the 16" screen and outfitted it with 8GB RAM stock since I knew I'd upgrade it to my RAM choice anyway. I have a 2x16GB Kingston FURY kit (dual-rank DDR4-3200) on the way to install. Thanks for the video!

I've got the UK version with a 5800h and 3060. Came with 8gb ram and a 512gb SSD. So this video is exactly what I was looking for to upgrade those parts. My understanding is that you can take out the SSD sled on the left of the 60wh battery to put on a larger one with that screw hole you pointed out. Nice video 👍 Only complaint I have is that the hinge in the centre of the screen rubs and has chipped away some of the protective covering.

@@ArisakaMashiro I got it from Currys in the UK for £999, but I believe it's out of stock. Tbh, it has the 80w tdp 3060 (which was fine for me) and the 120hz screen, which is okay but not great. The ram will be upgraded to at least 16gb, possibly 32gb, add in an M.2 and then it'll be as good as it will get really. Battery is weak at 63kWh but that doesn't worry me.

I have the 3070, 512GB, 80Whr version of this and it's bloody lovely. Runs everything in ultra I've tried so far. Slapped a crucial P5 1TB in, but can't really find 32GB of RAM with a decent enough CAS. Otherwise I cannot fault the machine at all. I'm very happy with it

It's impossible to open this thing without breaking any of the plastic thingies that secure the cover into place, but honestly it doesn't matter at all. I personally broke one while opening it and another one while closing it. I have opened a lot of laptops without causing any damage before, this one was the most difficult by far.

Great video! What SSD did you install? The spec sheet says you can only have 1TB in one slot and 512GB in the other (which seems a bit weird!) - have you tried going beyond that to see if it works?

I suspect you already have an answer, but for anyone else wondering, I have the 3070 version of this and added a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus in addition to the stock 512GB drive and it works absolutely fine. I see no reason you couldn't replace the stock with up to 2TB either if you can be bothered with the faff of cloning the drive.

Thank you so much for making this video. I just bought this exact laptop at Microcenter in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. (Paid $1299.00) I wanted to upgrade my RAM as well to 32GB. I didn't even realize you could add another SSD to this machine so thank you for that too. What size SSD can this be upgraded to? What capacity did you use? My last few laptops have been HP Pavilion's and they were a PAIN to take apart. I like how you can access everything once the back panel is off, so much easier. Even though the back panel can be a little tedious, it's still going to be easier than my previous laptops. I'm pretty confident to do the upgrades now after seeing this video so very much appreciated ! This is my first laptop with a dedicated graphics card and NVMe SSD so I hope I made a good choice. Current laptop is a 3rd Gen Intel i7 from 2014 .. heard good things about the Ryzen 7.

So when you were talking about the Legion 5 Pro and complaining it's a 16 inch laptop, well it's not really. It's the same form factor as the 15.6 laptop, they just stretched the screen and got rid of the bezel to make a 16 inch screen. The size of the Pro and 5 are identical.

I just picked up the Alienware M15R5 Ryzen 5800H, RTX 3060 and 165Hz lcd 3ms for $1675 Cnd. Alienware recently added 2 bios updates this month 1 to add the option for muc switch in the bois. And 2 they just added a 15watt increase to GPU in boost mode. Things a beast now. All Aluminium/Magnesium chassis.

Allegedly you can install a 2.5" Sata-SSD if you don't put in a bigger Battery. At least in the previous Model it came with a caddy already inside for that purpose. But in your version it seems this caddy is missing unfortunately. It would be great to put an 8TB SSD in, because they are way cheaper than M.2, and there's enough room - but is there even a SATA connector for that?

I'll toss in that the 2.5'' slot seems to only be on the 15'' version. The 17'' version has a larger battery, so there's only one spare m.2 slot available for storage upgrades

If the laptop has never been connected to power, or powered on from the moment you unbox it, you don’t have to worry about that. If you were to buy a brand new laptop now, and turn it on (with the exception of a mac), the laptop will not turn on …until you have connected it to power.

The only mention I would like to say amd it can be important,you ned to disconnect battery before replacing component s ad in this Lenovit is very easy to do just pull battery connector because static electricity could affect modules. That is recommended step. beside of that - great video as I said. bythe way I am looking to see if 2x 32 Kingston FURY SO-Dimm with CL20 wioll be good investment for that. I saw people were able to install 32Gb modules there a well without isue.

Yes and no… there is space, but the laptop never came with a bracket to install the 2.5 inch SATA drive. So, if you wanted to install one… you are SOL. Haha

its normal it typically depends on the drive/controller itself and if its prone to heat, the only real solution would be to upgrade to a drive that is still low profile/no heatsink that offers good reviews/results for thermal performance. I had the same issue when i was testing the asus zeph g15 3070, the ssd was right under the space bar/track pad and it got hot even at idle.
