I love the side of the laptop with the same thickness metal finish going around, similar to Lenovo z13/16. More laptop companies should move away from making pointless ugly tapered edge design and move towards designs similar to this or at least make the sides same thickness throughout

@Sai Pulivarthi I haven't got any screen wobble. I am using a custom-made timber benchtop as my setup. I do notice if I am using it on for example a thinner type of desk its a small amount of wobble

I just got the Slim 7i (1920x1200 model) and it seems great so far. I kind of like how Lenovo opted for a work/professional-looking laptop as opposed to a flashy gaming look such as the ROG, TUF, or Alienware laptops. This seems like a great laptop for those people like me who want to play games, record gameplay, and edit videos on the go without demanding "the best" performance (that is what your desktop is for right?).

@@user10u7 When not under a load, the laptop is silent. Web browsing, word documents, watching videos, etc. No noticeable noise there. I tried the Wither 3 (with the new update at highish settings) and it was pretty noisy. If it was a quiet classroom and the teacher was talking, this laptop would definitely be noticeable and annoying to anyone trying to listen. Also, keep in mind that the laptop was not under a full load (had the laptop on auto mode and was not trying to max anything out). I am sure the laptop would get louder and hotter if you really pushed it. But, that gives you a good idea of what video editing and other demanding applications might be like. Disclaimer - I loved the laptop, but ended up returning it for this reason. I wanted to edit videos at my slow office job but realized that this would make too much noise and potentially be distracting to co-workers.

I love the design... it looks much better than the 7 non-slim version, IMO. The screen size is perfect, the brightness is great, the 16:10 format is awesome.. With an i7 and a 3070ti (or equivalent) this is ideal for my use. An obvious deal breaker is the RAM-configuration. I'd appreciate more than 16gb.. 32gb would be perfect. Another problem is the lack of a displayport compatible usb-c port on the back, next to the power-, hdmi- and usb-A-inputs. If they keep the design (or make it look even cleaner.. fewer and smaller logos, etc.), add a displayport compatible usb-c port on the back and improve the RAM to 32gb, I'll buy it.

Last year's Legion Slim 7i was 1.9kg, putting it in direct competition with the G14, G15, M16 and Razer Blade 15 for thin gaming. This year's Legion Slim 7i is a huge improvement in many ways, but the weight has gone up to 2.3kg by Jarrod's measurement (it is listed as 2.2kg). That kinda defeats the purpose of a Slim, no?
@formulaic78
@formulaic78 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does slightly. I bought one for going traveling for six months with, but I also ended up bringing a macbook. Now that I'm traveling around I wonder why I didn't just buy the full fat version at only 0.25kg more and leave the MacBook air at home! That said it is still reasonably portable but M16 definitely beats it in real portability. But it was considerably more expensive than what I paid for this .
@doomscyte1087

You can purchase Flow X16 or Zephyrus M16 if you don't mind to add up another $500+ to the cause. Or maybe a Razer Blade 15 instead? But then again, it defeats the purpose of thin, light & affordable yet strong performance gaming laptop no? With all that money, you might as well go for Legion 7i directly.
@torpedospurs
@torpedospurs 2 жыл бұрын
With a 100W 3060 the segment is not "strong performance", but should be "lightweight with decent performance". Last year's model fit, but this year's model is a bit too heavy. BTW in my location the Legion Slim 7 is comparable in price to the M16 fitted with the same 3060, and the latter even gives you 20W more while being 300g lighter. The G15 is cheaper still. Comparing pricing with the X16 is pointless since that machine is a 2-in-1 so you'll have to pay more. Razer Blades are hella expensive, I'll give you that.

I'm about the same. It gets through a 2 hour movie pretty much. But that's at max or high brightness. I use advanced Optimus so the screen should be 60 and igpu only. So I just keep it plugged in most of the time. One thing I did buy was the 135W charger. Makes it more portable if taking it to coffee shop etc and can still plug it in. Has Lenovo said anything about getting you the AMD Advantage Edition with the 6800S? I'd like to see how that fares against this one, not to mention it undercuts the G14 by a lot and is easier to use with a monitor at home depending on how you set it on the table (ie HDMI on the back). I'm thinking performance is comparable but AMD tends to get partners to use a vapor chamber? AFAIK only the Delta 15 with 6700M, and the Omen wtih 66x0M are the only ones that use heatpipes among the Advantage laptops.

I tried out a Lenovo legion 7i slim Gen7 for about a week and I loved it. I initially bought the 3060 version which I was very happy with but realized that, as of right now on the U.S. website, there is a HIDDEN OPTION for a rtx 3070 that appears only when you select the extra 8gb sodimm ram (for 16gb total including the soldered ram) AND the WQXGA (2560 x 1600) screen. they do specify this is available but you access these options by choosing to “build your own system” which says is only “available with up to an rtx 3060.” Somewhat misleading.

It's problely not a good idea to choose 3070 version, with the same cooling(100watts on gpu), RTX3070 lose more than 30% of performance than full-power-version, which means it's actually only have 10% upgrate than RTX3060 version. Question for anyone. I'd like to buy this for content creation and for gaming and media. Will these colour gamuts be enough to do photo/video edits to some level of colour accuracy? A bit disappointed by the numbers at 14:50. Excellent review as always Jarrod! Thanks! I'd go for the G14 with similar specs and better colour accuracy but I'd like the bigger screen.
@RedBeardedRabbit
@RedBeardedRabbit 2 жыл бұрын
Disclaimer: I'm just an enthusiastic amateur Virtually all online content is by default in sRGB. Wider color gamuts are barely used in online content outside of HDR. Color management on Windows is pretty trash anyway since it's not handled well at the OS level, so individual apps like most web browsers will show over-saturated colors if your display is, say, 100% P3 but most content (again, not HDR) is mastered to the smaller but standard sRGB color space (some browsers claim to be color manged, but it's buggy and IME doesn't work). To get around this, professional desktop monitors have different "emulation" modes that make the monitor itself limit to a specific color space. On laptops, this would have to be done in software and I'm not sure Lenovo does it - or if they do it well. For example, Dell has this option in PremierColor, but using it makes gradients horrible so it's unusable. So you're stuck with over-saturated content. TL;DR on Windows, 100% sRGB and no more is a blessing in disguise for most people.

Seems plausible, but I haven't found a definitive answer from someone reputable. AIso, if this is correct, does this mean that miss-matched ddr5 stick sizes will run dual channel for all the memory? Specifically, for a laptop such as this one with 8gb soldered to the motherboard, if I the removable 8gb is replaced with 16 gb, does it run 24gb in dual channel or still 16gb?

Thanks for the great video once again. I have an important question for various reasons mainly being, I have ordered a Legion 7i the i7, 3070ti config. I'm now confused when your stats say, this has way better battery life. Is it because, it only has 3060? I really like the top end features and smaller improvised details with Legion 7i. If not for the battery I wouldn't look at Slim version. Afterall, paying $2000 for a high end laptop, diminished battery life is a big negative for my needs. Would you still recommend going with Slim for a higher config or a 7i Original? Kindly respond :)

1:20 "they only measure at the thinnest point but I didn't find it that much thicker". Wow really?? Because the thickness you list a few seconds before say it's 17mm thick and then as you say that you're showing it being measured at 26mm. That's a hugeee difference, thats MORE than 50% thicker! More than a whole extra half a laptop in thickness. Am I reading this wrong because hows that not much thicker? I've just been through several reviews and they all say it's only 17mm thick too, plus all the marketing material, but your videos the first showing it's 26mm thick and even then it's glossed over.

The reason it's so much thicker is that the measurement also includes the rubber foot. Laptops usually aren't measured including them, so the actual thickness isn't 26mm

The trend of soldering half the memory to the motherboard in these tiers of laptops needs to die out FAST. I get doing it to an XPS, Zenbook, etc, but gaming laptops should not be limited by such constraints. Imagine buying this machine and realizing that in 2-3 years, even if the 3060 is enough for gaming, the 16GB memory isn't, and you're held back by that alone. It truly sucks. :/

Hopefully there will be still some fullhd Legion slim laptops in 2022. In my opinion, the QHD is just a waste on so small screen, I compared it personally, there is only tiny difference but battery life and performance is worse when using native QHD. Of course you can switch to FullHD, but that seemed to be just too unclear for me, ugly. And videos seemed to be laggy on QHD or on FullHD on QHD panel.
@formulaic78

It's actually a pretty good qhd performer in games with DLSS or FSR. Playing far cry atm with high settings at QHD+ with FSR Quality and getting around 80fps. Same with spiderman, although when you add ray tracing need to drop down to 1200p. I can't say I notice that it looks bad at 1200p though; worse than QHD of course, but I thought that was just the drop in resolution.
