Palm rest on the keyboard is way too narrow. At least on the Alienware m16 (also a narrow palm rest) there is no number pad so W, A, S, D aren't pushed as close to the edge and I can rotate my hand so that it barely fits on the palm rest. Please tell Lenovo that this was a really bad idea. I hope the people that buy this and go "wtf" will return it because of this huge design flaw instead of hurting their hand, ergonomic efficiency, or using an external keyboard and sitting 50 feet from the screen

Jarrod, can you make any, any remote sense to me WHY Laptop designers don't just put a couple support pillars under the keyboard which is fully made sturdy and supported with continuity to rubber feet under the laptop to eliminate keyboard flex? Like why do they seriously not do this?
@StratosGamesOFFICIAL Жыл бұрын
The reason that so many things didn't work in Ubuntu is that the iso was released in October. Developers haven't made proper drivers for the all new Lenovo Legion 9i. You can expect better results in the future.
@cameronbosch1213 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hope so. Especially since Legions are some of the few laptops to have performance modes and keyboard settings baked into the firmware of the laptops so they work in Linux. Maybe when Ubuntu 24.04 comes out...
@Spurdospaerde6925 ай бұрын
Yeah, testing Linux compatibility using just a live CD (USB pendrive) instead of a proper installation isn't optimal in general. More often than not, you need to be able to tweak the installed OS and install more drivers.

I think the problem with this laptop is that Lenovo kind of shot themselves in the foot by making the Legion 7i laptops such incredible machines. Gaming laptops are meh. If you're on the go, use a steam deck or switch. If you're at home, obviously a desktop. If you want gaming desktop power and need to travel, Put the desktop in a suitcase, and a slim 23" monitor.
@cameronbosch121311 ай бұрын
@blastofo The Switch is a piece of junk that will age worse than milk left on the kitchen counter. The Steam Deck is good, though some people do want something powerful, although like you said, I would get or build a small desktop if you want something affordable yet powerful. The truth is, desktops will always outperform an "equivalent generation" laptop because of power and thermal constraints. Only the GTX 10 & 16 series and RTX 20 series were even close in terms of performance on desktops and laptops, and only if the laptops received the maximum power. I think something like the Framework Laptop 16 is a good middle ground; a relatively thin and light yet powerful enough, insanely upgradable (for a laptop), and with good battery life. There was a video I watched that basically came to the same conclusion; I would link it here, however, it would probably get marked as spam.
@cameronbosch121311 ай бұрын
@leahrodriquez1349 Personally, I wouldn't go older than Nvidia RTX 30 series or Radeon RX 6000 series because those did have some notable performance increases compared to their predecessors. Though I would avoid the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti with 4 GB of vRAM, as those just do not have enough vRAM to play modern games. And if I'm being honest, you could get (or build if you're skilled enough) a small form factor desktop for a lot less money and it would destroy an "equivalently priced or equivalently specced" laptop.

This looks like the best laptop ever. It has the best distance between the keyboard and the screen which adds more distance between the user and the screen, feels more like a desktop PC and protect users eyes by providing the most possible distance. Full-size Keyboard with no weird change in keys, very standard wrist support (about 8-9CM), perfect temp, hardware, screen, battery, and another extra light charger which makes it even more portable. I wish I had this laptop, I truly wish I could buy it. Gaming laptops have major issues with their low mainboard components quality and their weakness against electric shorts, and noise pulses, gaming laptops die (stop working) all of a sudden which it is scary. I hope instead of doing things to make them fancy, they decide to make them more durable for long-term use.

With the 14th gen inbound. I hope the Legion 9 and 7 pro receive some tweeks. Legion 9 needs its limiters removed, because thermals are good. The same can be said about that useless water pump that adds complications and cost (imagine a Vapor chamber in place with the super thick heat pipe). Legion 7 Pro needs the same mini led option back (which was listed until removed) and a fucking glass touchpad. Maybe switch the metal bottom cover to the keyboard deck like MSI does and have a plastic bottom cover instead. Giving it a bit more premium? Thats all that is needed and both laptops would be a steal compared to anything else. I’m definitely sold on the keyboard and nothing imo feels as good as on a Legion or Pro Lenovo laptop. In both of the units that I received, I had this problem where disallowing the Mediatek WiFi drivers to wake up the computer from sleep causes the laptop to consistently crash when waking up from sleep. However, without making that change, the laptop will wake up from sleep randomly causing it to run extremely hot and draining the battery while in a backpack! I've opened a ticket with Lenovo about this and they're working to get it resolved. Can you confirm whether turning that setting off causes crashing in your unit? Also, changing the mode to performance on Vantage changes the indicator on my unit. So, that might only be an issue with some units.

Please confirm... I am facing this problem for a long time. If you can run the Cinebench test again on the scar 18 or 16 laptops. Will be very helpful. Thanks in advance. Great fan.❤

A friend of mine just bought one, but has a weird problem where in bios the VMD Controller does not stay disabled and we can not see any SSD's to install windows or use the laptop. I searched for long hours ,but could not find a solution. Some on the forums say its a bios motherboard problem and you can't do anything. Unless you update the bios. Which, updates only if you have an operating system installed on it =)). And it was pretty expensive. I mean its a dissapointment that such a beautiful machine does not run and at this amount of money you can't use it and have to troubleshoot it =)))

@JarrodsTech - Curious why you use the Thermaltake cooler to test your laptops instead of the IETS500 or IETS600?

Hello! I wanted to ask for advice on choosing a laptop, the problem is that one of the options is not presented in the reviews. We are talking about asus tuf gaming f17 FX707VV (13900H and 4060), and the second option is the classic legion 5 pro with 6800H and 3060. The prices are approximately the same: $1200 versus $1150. I also suddenly came across a third option: ASUS ROG Strix G513 R7 6800H/RTX3060 for +- 900-1000$ The priority is the size and color rendering quality of the display, as well as relevance for playing modern heavy single-player titles at high settings, and of course you want it to be reliable 2023 years' TUF specs looks tastier than Lega for the same price, but tuf 22 years old laptops were problematic, it’s unclear how things are now: I haven’t found a review of this model, just a few reviews.

Given the water cooling component, wouldn't it have been better to place the board upside down instead, in the unlikely event of a leak?

Hey how are you able to go into bios and select memory overclock? That option is'nt there for me. I have the same version as you minus having the 64GB of ram and mine didnt come with Wifi 7 just 6e

It will depend on the memory type. If you don't have it listed then you probably don't have the memory that is capable of doing it.

Jarrod I can't help thinking that Legion 9 might perform a lot better with Ryzen 9 7945X3D because of that TDP issue in crossloads. Obviously the price of Legion 9 is too high for average user but I think power users would like to have Ryzen option too.

I felt so catfished seeing an add for a 'liquid cooled' Legion the first time. I really don't understand why they went half way to blowing the Neo out of the water but just stopped at quick disconnects...
@saeedupdate83119 ай бұрын
Why don't you undervolt and overclock the CPUs? It is a part of their nature, and avoiding it may lead to an unfair comparison. For example, I got a 30,500 MC score in Cinebench in 10 minutes with an air-cooled 13900hx (Mechrevo).

i have the Legion Pro 7 with the AMD and 4090. i also added 1) 2TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD with another one sitting here awaiting installation. I also have Crucial 64GB memory kit sitting here waiting for me to install it. my question is.. I'm still within my 30 day return policy on my laptop.. would it be worth returning this laptop and going ahead and grabbing the Legion 9i laptop? I ask this because ive had a couple of issues with my current laptop and its going to be going back tomorrow most likely to be replaced and Im THINKING of upgrading if they will let me and id pay the difference. thanks so much!!!

is this 9i better than legion pro 7 or its only a size difference (which is minimal..)?
@micha8469 Жыл бұрын
Interesting it only gets 26671 in Cinebench while 13900HX in Legion 7i Pro can hit 28800 without touching anything and hit over 30k with light undervolting. Where the performance goes. It maybe is a bug, drivers, bios etc. No way this higher tier CPU performs visibly worse. Or they screwed up TDP so much for not really important weight loss, which is minor.

I have a technical question for you and probably you know the answer, I bought a MSI GE76 1 year ago and it started to be uneven or is not flat anymore, everytime I open the lid the base woobles and if I use the ESC or enter I can feel the uneven base, I have used the warranty and they had changed twice the covers but the problem is still there, what experience dou you have with this problem?
