That doesn't extend to the Mac, you can install 3rd party software and even use 3rd party OSes all you want. + You could still be against a company while using their products, in the end you wouldn't be punishing yourself just because you don't like a company by missing out on their amazing hardware like the 14" MacBook Pro.

You are joking right? You obviously don't know that MBs only have 7-8% global (and only 14% US) market share. Also, 99.999% of governments, businesses, corporations, educational insitutions, and nonprofits use Windows. Next. MBs don't have basic 20th century features like touch screen, pen support, 2-in-1 design, 180 degree screen, OLED display, face recognition, upgradability, repairabiilty, HDMI port, USB-A port, display port, etc. Third, MBs are have such poor build qulaity that class action lawsuits are filed just about every year: 2021 cracked screen, 2020 green screen, 2019 connectivity issues, 2018 keyboard issues, 2017 thermal throttling. And that is just in the last 5 years. Fourth, laptopmag's 2022 laptops wtih best battery life test ranked MBs #4, #9, and #10. So M1 chip has FINALLY made MBs comparable to the best Windows laptops. Fifith, laptopmag rated them 10th out of 11 laptop makers.

do you see a screen door effect on the OLED? Basically a dotted matrix pattern (presumably the touch digitizer) that makes colors looks grainy and distracting. Also, what resolution is your OLED? I'm someone who really wants a touchscreen laptop, as any laptop without it just doesn't feel complete to me, and it's ridiculous to me that Lenovo caps the max ram of its flagship yoga series at 16GB. Meanwhile, supposedly the new 7i will max out at 32GB when it's released. I'm someone who regularly exceeds 16 gigs of RAM for my daily use, but doesn't necessarily require a separate GPU, so the yoga 9i is a deal breaker. I'll probably end up going with the MSI summit flip which features a similar CPU, but understands that in the premium market, there are many users who do need more than the base 16 gig

@Josh, thanks for the in-depth review, especially for comparing the Intel 12th Gen P series and Ryzen U series CPUs. I absolutely agree with you on that and having the same experience. Intel 12th Gen only performs better if it has more number of P Cores and allowed to run at higher power limit with better cooling. In P series Processors which are fitted in Slim and light laptops, combination of lower TDP and and lower # of P cores, makes it bad compared to even Zen 3 based Ryzen 5000 series. It is getting beaten in Multi-core test by last gen 5800U while consuming far more power and less than 5 hours battery life with a huge 75 WHr Battery (Normally you see in big 15 or 17 inch Gaming laptops), really shows how efficient AMD Processors are. As per various reviews I've seen, a Core i7-12700H with 6P + 8E Cores actually performs lower than a Ryzen 9 6900HS if the Power limit is set below 45W. Now for P series, Intel has less # of P Cores, less cache whereas 6800U is having the exact config as the 6800H/6800HS with slightly lower clockspeed...In UltraPortable Market, I don't think Intel U and P series Processors will be much of a competition for Ryzen 6000 series. On top of that the RDNA 2 iGPU in 6000 series is now way faster.
@abaj006
@abaj006 2 жыл бұрын
The Ryzen 5000 is really good, and the 6000 series is just incredible for portable laptops. AMD now offers the best of both worlds, CPU performance, GPU performance and the icing on the cake is the excellent battery life.
@123Suryasis
@123Suryasis 2 жыл бұрын
@@abaj006 I absolutely agree with you. Currently highest end Alder Lake mobile CPUs have 15% to 20% performance advantage over 8 core Ryzen CPUs by having 14 physical cores and a lot higher power consumption, heat generation and so bad battery life that even the portable ones hardly can be used as a laptop, away from the plug point. Even this so called low powered P series 12th gen has less than 5 hrs battery life with a huge 75 whr battery is a proof of it. Looks like when the industry is going to the direction for power efficiency vrather than absolute raw performance, Intel is going to the exact opposite direction. I would rather go for than 20% reduced performance (at best case) over almost twice less battery life.

Have the same unit. Do you have the weird problem where running it on a lower wattage power adapter causes the unit to come to a crawl? Basically, any time I have a lower wattage (like a 45 watt or 65 watt USB type c charger) adapter, I can't do ANYTHING if there's an intensive process like a windows update running in the background. To a lesser extent it happens on battery power and even randomly when using the official 105 watt Asus adapter. Sometimes I just think these super thin n lights really shouldn't have high powered components, period. Of course, if you have something slightly chonkier like the MacBook pro, paired with its ridiculous efficiency, its going to run laps around these in CPU intensive tasks. But that's not in the same category. It's more like the Asus g14 in size/weight

It has a 16:10 1920x1200 120 hz touch screen, AMD Ryzen 6000 CPUs with Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti GPU, a MUX switch, and a port for the XG Mobile with more PCIs lanes than an eGPU, amazing keyboard, above average battery life (the screen will go down to 60 hz when it is unplugged to save battery life, although this can be disabled in Armoury Crate) and stealth non-gamer design. The only complaint I have is the price and some warmness above the keyboard (common among sub 15 inch laptops), along with soldered RAM (but with up to 32 GB options) and a smaller SSD slot, but for top-tier performance in a 13.4 inch size, there’s no competition. Hi Josh, I want to seek your advice on what laptop to get. In essence i want something ~15” that’s light and gives me the smoothest user experience. My use case is really just day to day use, netflix and doing some gaming. I may learn to code as well but shouldn’t cause any major challenge. I know i want an AMD cpu and 16:10 screen which narrow my options down to a few laptops only. The main thing is that I want to play big titles but I’m willing to sacrifice performance (~medium should be good enough for me) for lower heat and fan noise. The main challenge i have is that most videos talk about how far the machines can be pushed, and the pros and cons are usually about when they’re in that stage. I can’t really find anything about how they perform when being in “light” load, and I really don’t know enough about hardwares to guess which will perform best in medium gaming load. Budget-wise I’m thinking USD2500, but if there’s something really really good USD4000 is fine.

I bought the Lenovo 9i 14" in top spec yesterday from Best Buy for $1,499.99 pre-tax. I made sure the BIOS was updated and all Windows and Lenovo software updates were current. The fan noise was noticeable during installation of programs and using the 9i as a drawing tablet. I seldom do video editing so I can't speak to that aspect of it. The speakers are good ... very good, but not as good as those on my ASUS gaming laptop. However, they are much better than those on the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360. Battery life is horrible compared to the Book2 Pro which I use for watching streaming movies, common tasks in Word and Excel, and as a drawing tablet. I prefer the Book2 Pro (15.6" OLED) over the 9i even with its much lower resolution. My opinion is that too much went into the look and feel of the Yoga 9i rather than the actual performance and usefulness.

Im currently on search for a new 14" to 15 " 16:10 laptop. I have a Lenovo Yoga 730 15" with an undervolted i5-8250U, that is silent during all office task and web browsing. Unfornunatly there arent many new laptops out there that meet these requirements. I recently tried the Ideapad 5 Pro 14 with an i5-1135G7 that got the CPU almost always between 30 °C and 40°C but for some reason the fans kept spinning with an annoying flir sound. I have the Asus Zenbook 14X on my list, but its currently unavailable in my region. So I had high hopes for the 9i Gen 7. Its a bummer that the 9i has only average inputs and fans that wont stop spinning. I also have the Yoga Slim 7 Carbon on my radar. But from my testing while an i7-1165G7 at idle to light use can draw 0,6 W to 2 W the 5800U is more 1,5 W to 3 W. So the 5800U is usually around 40 °C where on many Laptops the fans start spinning. I´m looking forward to your review of the Slim 7 Carbon. Hopefully it performs better in the noise department.

Will you also have a look at the new Yoga 7i? (Preferably the 16" version as you can get it with 32 GB RAM, the new Intel Arc dGPU and supposedly an i7-12700H processor.) It looks the same, but has more of the ports that I need and better spec options. It also leaves out the somewhat useless "quick buttons". The 16" is currently available for purchase in my country, but the 32 GB RAM, Arc dGPU and i7-12700H is not yet available... Also, what do you think about the new Yogas in comparison to the Galaxy Book2 360 Pro?

Thats reasonably fair Hayley. I am going to try to pay more attention to the 2 in 1 capability of those laptops next year. In fact I had it as an option in my recent survey. What i've found is most people who own a 2 in 1 never use the laptop in that form factor. They use it as a regular clamshell laptop. That's why I did the comparison. I'd be interested to know more of your use case, and when you use it with the stylus. - Please ping me on Discord if you feel like sharing And re Apple fan boying, if you take a watch of some of my older Mac videos pre M series chip, I was very unhappy with Apple. But things are different now with M series. I'd like a laptop that is powerful yet with no fan noise, heat you feel while I use it, long battery life, and good speakers. The reality is, right now, only Apple is delivering on that.
