With every note, it's like a heart shattering. A loss of air within the lungs of those that are most pure. It's the tears that roll, that can't be caught when you stifle the cries. A bottle of red, a cozy blanket and a burning fire would surrfice in listening to his voice all night ❤

i think you misunderstood this lyric. its referring to an ambulance/hospital where he survives and wakes up surrounded by doctors etc...instead of murdering himself, he was unsuccessful.

i love to hear the interpretations! i personally think whoever the song granite is about is the person who was driving in this song (atlantic) and crashed with him as passenger and they died but he survived (the scars he talks about) and why he is haunted by this ghost of someone. He feels guilt for letting this person drive drunk, they killed themselves but he was spared. at least thats the feeling get from a lot of this.

If you listen to their BBC Introducing performance/interview he explains he writes his songs the way he does because he prefers music with depth, rather than boring music about relationships. They were together then and they recorded this song later on together. People just assume his music is about her. It's just his style of music writing and always has been. It can be interpreted in many ways :)
