I always interpret him as a ghost of a boy who died from chikd abuse. We see several other kids too all who seem to understand what she went thru. Of course I am not Christian so the angel interpretation would not be my first thought, but also people do not become angels when they die, at least not according to the Bible. But your interpretation is a common one people make.

I used to be a teacher. I called all the time for child services to do something about my students being abused. Not one call was taken seriously.

Unfortunately, three weeks ago my 10-year-old grandson went to school with a blackeye and when they asked him who did it, he said his mother’s boyfriend. The school called child protective services, who then called the mother and let her know they were gonna stop by and do a home visit. she kept my grandsons up all night cleaning her house and got the boys to lie to the social worker. About a week later her boyfriend hit my grandson with a hanger and their aunt called my son to let him know what was going on. they called the police and the police said there was nothing they could do about it, and if their Mom said that the boys had to go back to her house they had to go. That’s exactly what happened. The next day, my son drove three hours to go get his boys and now all three of his kids live with him and his wife. But the police would do absolutely NOTHING about it unless child protective services told them to remove the kids. This was 11 o’clock at night so they did nothing!

Sadly this is not true far too many children are murdered by parents every yr with even when child services are already involved.. the excuse for not helping is case overload .

Angela Carter was Martina McBride's niece. This song is about her that is why she could use the headstone in the video. Martina used this tragic event to bring awareness and I think all of the proceeds from it goes to help children who are being abused.

This song was inspired by her niece whose mother abused her and she died so it has a lot of meaning and she has such a gorgeous voice. Every time I hear the song I get the chills and I cry but it’s beautiful.

Not true about cops being there. Children case workwear have an astounding number of cases and so sad, but often there isn't enough or soon enough interventions. My daughter was abused years ago and DFS found cause. Meaning they believed my daughter. However, this woman was a mother and in the army and strings were pulled. I thank Gid my daughter felt safe to talk to me.

Not necessarily depends on state, city or county a person lives in whether or not the social workers or police will be out on a abusive parent it's so sad the way they handle things here where I live

This is a true story .... McBride's niece was a victim of child abuse, so this song is a dedication to her. Her niece was abused by her mother, McBride's sister, after she divorced her husband. McBride's sister abused her daughter continuously until one day when McBride's precious niece was killed. The name on the stone is Angela Carter (7 years old) was her niece. Another true story is Alyssa Lies. "Alyssa Lies" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Jason Michael Carroll. Carroll took two years to write "Alyssa Lies." The song was so emotionally painful to write that he got migraines while writing. It is based on a true story of a girl that wasn't saved from abuse in time. It seemed to Carroll that no matter what he wrote, he would never be satisfied with it. When he realized that he would not be able to make the song perfect, he tried the best he could to make it realistic and sufficiently emotional.
