I'll take one too! How many millions do they cost? I'm out of a job, have no money and I haven't got a pilot's license. It also won't fit in my front yard. Just a slight hiccup.

I flew the C-27A model in Panama in the early 90's. Very capable aircraft!

You are conveniently not mentioning that the prime contractor was L-3 Com, And American company. An airplanes don't fly without avionics - what countries did they come from?

@@Happy-wb8gi They would be German without the help of America. The backbone has 5 major sections and a lot of bones. Nice video on the Spartan but highlighting two nations on a very multinational program is annoying.

both are good, but if you need to operate in high altitude airfields, the c195M is garbage, c27j is thousands better.

When I was in ROTC, I was like every other 80's cadet who wanted to fly a fighter after seeing Top Gun. Have the hair and the callsign. Nowadays, I would want to fly a Spartan or an Osprey. Mostly because of how comfy the cockpit is and the ultrawide views the flight crew enjoy out the window :P Stepdad was a snakecharmer turned C-130 driver, said he'd never go back cuz there's no substitute for being able to get up and take a leak midflight

I hope there will be one. The C130 Hercules is used by a few civilian operators and they are doing well.

I highly doubt it! If there was a civilian cargo transport version of Spartan, it would compete with the other product from Leonardo's subsidiary, a member of the consortium that produces the ATR, which can be used as a civilian freighter (FEDEX has several of them). But - in a daydream - it would be nice if they stopped production of the ATR completely and replaced it with an elongated version of the Spartan. It would be an excellent aircraft, unlike the terrible and under-powered ATR! France would never accept it!

I recall when it was the Aeritalia G222. Very good aircraft but didnt win a huge amount of sales......Along came the C-27.....Don't forget Alenia's hissy fit and refusal to support the C27 when the US decided it didnt want them after all and tried to sell them or give them away to friendly nations. ;leonardo are now trying to make up for lost time since the Cn235 and 295 dominate the market.

No my friend I don't agree with you, the Cn295 is dominating the market because it's cheap but way less capable and also pushed by Airbus.. a giant, the decision of Alenia to drop the support fot the C27J bought by the United States was because the USA was breaking the contract for political reason lying about the efficiency of the plane, that was demonstrated as discussed in the US Senate been the only airplane capable to perform all the missions in Afghanistan, but that was (..) a political phase that wasn't looking well to imported products (look at the EH101 for the Marine One fleet and many many others), the demonstration of the efficiency of the plane was that the Army even proposed to take it in charge (The USAF don't like stuff that fly low and cost less than 100 Millions per unit.. even when it's needed to keep the man on the ground alive...), that was off course denied, many other organizations in the US smell the good deal and asked to have the planes in the end the lucky ones were the Cost Guard that could add a much more capable plane to the line up and the USSOC, that was well receaved by Alenia (I guess better than nothing) that menaced to not serving the planes because the Usa annouced the intention of get rid of the planes almost for free this would have crashed the market for new planes for Alenia and was seen as a slap in the final slap in the face after all the excuses made to get rid of a plane for political reason that ended up in a lot of bad marketing.

@@thecommentaryking you got it wrong. With the powerful C-17 jet engines it can take off for short runways. When it lands on short runways, it has reverse thrust so it can stop on a dime. Look it up genius.

@@californiabeachboy1 No I got it right, the C17 is cleared from operations on runways 1,100 m long the C27J instead is cleared for half that, on runways 500 m long, be them wet, dirty or full of snow, both leveled or on high mountain ranges. The C27J has a better rate of climb 2,500 ft/min over the C17's 1,800 ft/min. Plus the C27J is more cost effective for nations that do not need a large four engine transport aircraft, since only the US and UK really need those. Most countries need a plane that can be used on their own territory.
