They TOTALLY follow a pattern. Brumation, ovulation. Right now my geckos are starting to slow down, brumation usually starts in December for me. When females ovulate they’re WILD. Always trying to escape. And not eating. Summer is my favorite because there’s no brumation, there’s no ovulation. It’s the best time of year 😂
Yes haha when they're just happy and eating its so much better. I imagine brumation and ovulation months vary a little depending on where people are in the world. :)

Thank the Gecko Gods for you!!!! You have really helped me with my 18 month old female Gecko "Gherkin". We've had her since she was 3 months so this autumn is her first adult year. My son and I keep track of her habits, so I was really worried in October when she went off her food and was hiding. I asked the reptile vet if she could be brumating, and he ended up insisting she might be egg bound, and i forked out for an ultrasound. I'm glad he confirmed she wasn't, but he still wouldn't consider the brumation!!! You have cleared this all up for me, and I will maybe panic less that she's not eating or pooping! I celebrate every poop and eaten insect! 😂😂 is consider her to be over weight at 100g and she's not lost any so far. Your videos are so, so helpful. She has a Deep Heat projector and T5 uv on your recommendation! You are awesome!! Happy New Year, Thank you! Leanne and Jacob, Isle of Man xxx

I just got a leopard gecko from a local reptile show and was told he was 5 months old. He only weighs 10 grams though. I don’t have much experience with leopard geckos (I’ve kept many other reptiles though) so I’m not sure if this is a normal weight for his age. His tail is fairly skinny and his body is very lean (not in a sick looking way at all) he has an insane appetite. He could eat all day long, I’ll feed him 15 small mealworms and he will still eat more. I’ve been giving him a mix of mealworms and crickets (as many as he can eat in 10 minutes) everyday since he’s small and 1-2 waxworms twice a week. He seems very healthy, he weighed only 8g when I got him 2 weeks ago and then he was 10g when I weighed him last week. He is so active and is the most gentle, slow and sweet little guy in the world! I’m worried I’m not feeding him correctly and if I should feed him every other day because of his age. I’m also wondering if he is at a normal weight for his age?

I acquired a 2-year-old female leopard gecko in July (she is a retired breeder), and adopted another six-month old female just a few weeks ago. The older female has definitely slowed down recently. She's in great physical condition (if anything, she's a little bit overweight) but doesn't want to come out of her moist hide. I'm glad to know this is normal. The younger female does not seem affected at all by the changing seasons. She has tons of energy, and oddly enough, is awake off and on during daylight hours. She's ravenous and seems to grow more every day. Do juveniles just skip the brumation period?

@@leopardgeckotalk Oh no, don't worry, they are in separate vivs, and I made sure to wash my hands between having anything to do with either of them, but I only did it for two weeks and that was when they both started rejecting as much food, but I only got no.2 three weeks ago, so bromination must have kicked in at the same time for them rather than illness. I live uphill Lincoln UK (have you been here?) and it goes from normal to super cold in two days, so I guess they were just in tune. I might get some waxworms and see if I can get any last fat in them for over winter! There may yet be hope!! My female goes off food like crazy it drives me nuts I always panic but then I take her to a vet and nothing is wrong. At one point I was terrified I'd check on her in the morning and find her dead she was so skinny, I started force feeding her herptivite and reptiboost that I mixed into a formula and I fed her every day to every other day for 2 months until she finally started hunting the crickets I offered. We lived in California at the time where winters are warm it was so bizarre but she didn't have a parasite or anything the vet didn't know what was wrong. Every winter I get so worried she's going to do it again. This video is so great I didn't realize that the reason she goes off her food during late spring early summer is due to ovulation, I just panic and think she's sick. Her weight fluctuations are definitely the only downside to having my Arwen but boy do they make me worry.

I’ve had 2 and they ate the same all year around. They were both males.

Leopard Gecko Aren’t they just amazing? Do your leopard geckos ever bask under uva/uvb? Mine did and no one I mention it to believed me🥺 As if there is no sun in their natural habitat.
