YES YES YES Can you please make a tiny leader deck tech for Leovold. Ive always loved tiny leaders and sultai colors have always been my jam. I would love to see one of the best directions to play Leovold in that format
@Festentorsdag8 жыл бұрын
Perfect, lots of good ideas. I just happened to watch an aluren legacy today at my local Game shop and thought of doing a leovold aluren deck. That's how I found your deck tech.
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
I used to have an aluren legacy deck and it felt so fun to play. I'm glad you like it. I hope Aluren is as fun to play in commander.

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/leovold-aluren-deck/ This is where i'm at, atm. It is pretty quick. Sometimes assemble the aluren combo as early as turn 3. XD
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
It looks really solid. What does your playgroup think of these turn 3 wins?
@Festentorsdag8 жыл бұрын
I have only made it on tappedout so far. But we have people comboing off in our playground and the meta is slowly adapting to have the answer for this kind of things. Usually I'm not playing any infinite combos, but I feel like this could be a deck to pull out when I'm playing too many other combo decks. I don't know yet. I just played a friends leovold wheel deck and it is definitely not much fun playing against such hand disruption.
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
That sounds about right. I'm a firm believer in owning a powerful deck for specific situations but I'd prefer ones that have a lot of interesting and interactive decision points.

Leovold is a STELLAR combo general. With my list I'm going all in on lab maniac, with doomsday as my main wincon. I'm still putting a list together but I intend on making this my hardcore/jerk commander deck... it'll be great
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
I agree. He clears the way while simultaneously finding more pieces. I'm with you; people should not underestimate the value of having a "jerk" deck. When my tribal fungus deck was picked apart by indiscriminate land destruction and unkind words I pulled out Mizzix of the Izmagnus for a rematch and only then was I avenged! Hope your build goes well and your enemies weep.

How do you return wormfang newt and turtle to your hand for the combo to work? Cloudstone curio? Do they enter at the same time with another blue permanent? Can you explain thoroughly how that works? Thanks a ton. I really love your ideas
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's hard to wrap your head around because in all honesty its a bad (but hilarious) combo. You need Aluren, a recursive bounce effect (Cloudstone Curio + another creature or the Cavern Harpy), the Wormfang creature, AND a relevant land. This lets you bounce the creatures in and out of play with the curio or the activated ability of the Harpy and with each cycle a land will blink in and out because of the Wormfang (gaining some life if it's a radiant fountain or doing a point of damage if it's piranha marsh). It's honestly jank but if you kill someone with it they cannot be mad and you are a rockstar in my opinion.

I understand how a Leovold should be built: work around that first ability. But I already have a deck that wants people to draw cards: Nekusar. You pretty much could replace the red and green in the decks, depending on if you want them to take damage or just have no hand. And since Nekusar "draws" hate (pun intended), this is just a more oppressive way of doing a similar effect. So if I ever get a Leovold, I'm not going that route. I'll probably just do something dumb like tribal Elves. Or just do Sultai good stuff like he mentioned.

I'm seeing so many comments asking for "competitive edh decks." But competitive decks really go against the nature of the game type. If you want competitive, play standard or modern. Commander is meant to be a fun multiplayer game with friends. That being said, I do run a Leovold reanimater/hand dump deck that makes all my friends too salty. But what I would like to see is a home brew deck. Not a edhrec Net deck.
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
I did make a competitive video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHfadouchL92eKs I have to say that you are correct in that it was much less fun for me to make these videos. I think it would be fun to play against other top tier lists but fewer interesting decision points when building. I guess it is really a different type of creativity. Hopefully in the original video I delivered that "home-brew" feel with the Aluren combo section.
@StrongButAwkward8 жыл бұрын
I liked some of the core concepts of your ideas here. My initial build of Leovold was rather meat and potatoes, standard control style creature finishers that would good pound for pound cards that would grind opponents out under a Leovold hand lock. I liked you Aluren finisher better on principle as generally I think it's a bad idea in casual to drag games out long after they are basically over due to a lock. I also like that it can house a minor elf-ball suite at the same time. This was my take: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/leovolddec/ As I said in my other comment, I very much like the idea of being being able to have one of the combo outs being casting Villainous Wealth at all opponents for their entire decks. It just seems to fit Leovold to a T.

Why make a competitive edh deck? It's like you said: there's no secret to it, just get explosive ramp, and pick the most obvious cards for your strategy. What you could do is a video talking about cards that are played in real competitive edh vs. what people think are competitive (like brago stax vs. blink value brago)

I wrote this question/observation in another comment and thought it was relevant here too: "Do you think that if a table bands together to attack any Leovold player from the beginning he can be controlled? I have a friend with a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck and when he pulls it out we have switched from Commander to Archenemy (all against one). All I know if that if someone pulls out Leovold I think I'll go after them no matter how "fair" his deck is. This may mean that there is no room for a deck tech like the one I recorded; only time will tell how we react to this."
@snapcaster54108 жыл бұрын
haha. So you already knew.
@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
But I'm really interested in the question -- can you 3 v 1 a tuned Leovold deck if one entered your playgroup right now?
@snapcaster54108 жыл бұрын
I think a fairly fast combo deck might be able to beat a tuned Leovold deck, but he's seriously the optimal multiplayer control commander. You get to make the whole table discard their hand by turn 4 with consistency (T3 with a 1 mana accelerant) and then continue to make them discard their hand while refilling yours throughout the game. Add some wrath effects to clean up creatures that get through, counter effects to protect Leovold;CA engine or combos and a bit of spot removal. You already have tutors to add consistency to your wheel effects so you can switch them to find combo pieces when you're ready. Teferi's Puzzle Box with counter magic up wins the game. The world is going to hate this elf.
@ramyannmurali78408 жыл бұрын
Competitive deck is basically a crueler version of Nekusar. Play wheel spells like wheel of fate and others and you get to draw more than your opponent's do: "I draw seven, You draw 1! Having fun yet?". then you just beat them with card advantage or even commander damage. Not very fun, he might get banned soon.

I gotta be honest, Lab Maniac is such a catch all blue deck win I find myself tired of it. Why not win in a way that only BUG can with a card or combination of cards that can only be played in bug? You already have the set up for it, you just need to swap out Lab Man for one other card. My suggestion is Villainous Wealth. You're running Cloud of Fairies to make infinite mana and Eternal Witness to recur it back to your hand. You can win by playing everyone elses' decks back at their face instead of just another deck with blue that wins with Lab Man.

your allure combo would be better in a 5 color deck. you could run enlightened tutor to help find allure, imperial recruiter, recruiter of the guard, purphuros, like you said. it wouldnt limit the creatures you could play AT ALL. why restrict it to this leovold shell? a waste not leovold seems better. you tutor for waste not the same way you'd tutor for allure and just jam windfall effects.
@kobuszsp9968 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but with Waste Not and Leovold, your opponent wouldn't really be discarding that many cards, making it not the best combination.

@JumboCommander8 жыл бұрын
This might be one of those “do as I say, not as I do” moments but I think that the first step is going to be getting some ramp in your deck (signets, wood elves, cultivate, etc.) and getting your land count up to around 37. This will let you know how many cards need cutting. Your deck does not have a focus and that’s fine. I love EDH decks that are filled with cards I want to play instead of the cards “should” play. If you would like some advice on making your deck more competitive, to match your playgroup, then let me know and I can give you some more specific tips. Thanks for the question; I hope your build goes well.
@CGtoTHEmax8 жыл бұрын
well i based it on card draw and im gunna add signets but i would prefer this be at least a half decent deck that could uphold against other edh decks

Do you think that if a table bands together to attack any Leovold player from the beginning he can be controlled? @Ballpython778 жыл бұрын
Jhoira does not reduce your opponents hands to 0 while you have plenty access to cards and draw on turn 4. do not mix apples and oranges. 2 very different cards. this game is meant to have fun and interact with other players but when you are the only one playing while the rest is staring at the walls, it's not fun anymore. i told my friends that i refuse to play if someone plays this commander. i have better things to do than to stare at a wall. if they want to build it, fine by me, i'll go do other things.

Apparently no one in your playgroup plays combo decks then since typically with most combo decks a game can easily go from multiplayer to solitaire rather quickly in my experience.

I think it's all about balance. If I'm playing the right deck then maybe I can answer or race these crazy strategies. But these days most of my decks aren't built that way. There is no right way to play magic but I agree with you guys that when two vastly unequal strategies meet then it just isn't fun.
