I think this has to be my favorite interpretation of Giselle. Svetlana is pure magnetism and her beautiful lines are enchanting, she’s acting and completely embodying the role perfectly but is able to bring madness to her movements and fully embrace the descent into madness with such technical perfection. She’s soooo amazing here.

This music really makes it for me. Just the ending...even after Giselle has died, and the despair that everyone is thrown into, the shock and horror and misery and desperation that can be heard in the music, of course beautifully acted by Bolle, Hillarion, etc.

The first time I watched this I was not moved, but Svetlana Zakharova's interpretation is so nuanced that eventually I could not help but have chills every time...Roberto Bolle is fantastic also. Great scene :)

Its amazing, you can literally see why Shetland is prima. She is just so physically different from everyone it is captivating, she literally glows on the stage (her hair is almost red, shes so pale, her limbs are so long, shes almost pixie like)

J'ai dû écouter pour la première fois Giselle quand j'avais quinze ans (une version sous la direction de Gianfranco Rivoli que j'ai encore en disque vinyle, il grésille beaucoup mais peu importe !), rien qu'avec la musique j'étais déjà emportée par l'émotion à la fin de cet acte, je n'ai jamais eu la chance de voir le ballet en vrai mais cette interprétation magnifique correspond en tous point à mon ressenti !

Cojocaru is a fantastic actress, but do not mistake inferior techniques with “expression.” She has much inferior techniques than Svetlana and that may be why you think she has “more expression.” It’s like a singer who sings slightly off key here and there and people think that’s more expressive than a singer who sings perfectly on key. Svetlana is always perfect in her techniques, so she always has that overly “clean” performances that you may find boring. But that’s how it should’ve been done.

Giselle and Bathilde could see that Loys was stuck in the middle of a love triangle between both of them, just as Giselle was stuck in the middle of a love triangle between him and Hilarion. That didn't stop them from trying to compose themselves and comfort each other, but Giselle's mind suddenly snapping did.
