Oh, empty chairs at empty tables, I'm already weeping from just that one bit. Brilliant job from Eddie Redmayne and everyone involved. Two months more, and then I get to see this...

Eddie Redmayne's Empty Chairs is the most moving, tear-inducing performance in the entire movie. And that's saying a lot. I will buy the dvd when it comes out just so I can watch his performance on loop. Breathtaking.

When I first heard they were turning my fav musical into a movie I was a bit worried, because it would be different from stage and wasn't sure if they would get it right, but after seeing it I thought it was perfect, the casting the settings I actually felt I was with them. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they left parts of the musical out that should have been in but other than that flawless

Well, to be honest, I was reduced to tears through a good 50% of the film. For me, however, Eddie Redmayne's performance of Empty Chairs was amazingly effective. Subjectively, the best, truest moment of the film. Perhaps because I hadn't seen clips of it, so wasn't prepared for the depth of his performance.

The thing I found about this: it was more about the acting and portraying the character's emotions and mental states than about the precise delivery of the stage version. When Valjean is pacing back and forth in the chapel, he's tormented, tired and distressed, when Fantine is singing I Dreamed a Dream, she's a woman who has hit the absolute depths of despair. The fact that the movie went with this approach and stuck with it, to me, gave it so much profundity. They did such a brilliant job. :)

I completely agree with you, Xidcat. This movie has SO much heart & emotions in it. And I LOVE movies where almost the entire cast GIVE their whole heart, energy, soul into the movie. Because that's the type of person I am. I give of my whole heart & soul, & this is the type of movie that matches my personality. This "Les Miserables" movie is SO good & awesome, that if you had me choose to watch "The Hobbit" or "Les Miserables", I'd run to see "Les Miserables" again & again! It's THAT good!

Wow! You seriously have to wait until February to watch "Les Miserables"? "Les Miserables" IS a wonderful film. One of the best films I've seen in a long time. When "Les Miserables" comes to a city near you - run to the movie theater & bring some friends with you. Also bring some tissues for the tears you will cry while watching this. You'll love this film! I watched it today, & after the movie was done, the movie audience was talking with each other saying how good this movie was!

I love that Jackman is trying to put more acting in it, but I feel like he's compromising the integrity of the actual music. From all the clips I've seen, 50% of the time he isn't even singing. Just breathless sighing.

Continued, The movie not only matched my expectations but exceeded it. The movie is twice as emotional as any live performance I have seen. Warning: If you don't like crying in front of strangers, you might want to find a seat away from other people. I have never seen a movie where almost every person was uncontrollably bawling (not crying).

Guys, this is a movie. In movies. they need actors. And that's what they're giving us, AMAZING ACTORS WHO ARE ABLE TO SING! If you want to listen a singer, go buy a CD, but Les Misérables is a movie. A movie about a musical, that's true, but in essense, it's a MOVIE! A beautiful movie, who deserved all awards, but, at least, it has our admiration, respect and love.

The sound department (other than orchestration) were the true stars of this film. Their talent is evident in listening to the rushed out versions of the trailer(s) and the removal of the room tone in the final version. How'd you do it? Minimal auto-tuning except for Amanda Seyfried. Next time, can we shoot a live musical without single-cam stedi-cam and go for multi-cam? We can CGI out the earpieces and even the other cameras for God's sake at this budget. But Bravo Les Mis Sound at least.
