Could be the RV broken down or no campsites, ANYWHERE! There is always an alternative and drop back and punt is my motto!!! Yup, spent many hours of my life broken down on the side of the road, in summer, crossing California to Arizona desert, right smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere!!! Add in a raging father, miserable mother, usually towing a boat and several kids who are terrified! All in the days before cell phones and on star! You’ve got it made, enjoy the Rick climbing activities!!!

I was always amazed at how advanced Hensley has always been in her education, personal observations, and her ability to adapt in a positive manner, like yall do. JJ is another chip off the old block! He is just as amazing as Hensley was at that age!! I am not surprised with parents like yourselves!!!

1) Decision Fatigue 💯 2) Generator - we get it! We were in Capitol Reef NP at Fruita CG. It’s so beautiful and serene and our generator, ugh! 3) we drove that curvy highway ONCE pulling our 17” trailer. Ranger said if we were any long they wouldn’t let us, and even as it was, if we got into an accident it would automatically be our fault! All was well and we didn’t have to go back that way, but it was a loooooong drive!

As a native Californian I’ve been to Sequoia several times. It and Kings Canyon remain my wife’s and my favorite national parks in California. One place you may not see when you’re there - it’s in the National forest - is Hume Lake. It was formed by a multiple arch dam used to run logs down a flume to mills in the foothills. Now there are homes around the lake and at one end there is a Christian camp that ministers to children and youth in the summer and to couples in the spring and fall.

I have lots of empathy! I moved from Indiana to California and was excited to run all over the place and see the fantastic national parks. I made so many mistakes! Snow in July? The gas mileage going up those grades and then having to buy gas in the national park. The natural beauty was worth it all and made fantastic memories I will never forget. But it really is different than Indiana.

When our truck broke down, we took our travel trailer to an RV park in Flagstaff and then the technician who was doing the work got sick. So, we rented a car and just used it to sight-see around the area until the Technician was well enough to work on the truck. We really enjoyed the area that we might have missed. You will have a wonderful time on your journey.

I love Kings Canyon. The girth on those trees is amazing! Another beautiful place with tons of redwood trees is up in Humboldt County. The coastal redwoods are taller than the Sequoias, but their width is smaller. Many have a habitat of three ecosystems. We are headed there on Friday...and can't wait! Enjoy Sequoia National Park. I have many great memories of it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Jeep. We hope the repair does not take too long ourvis expensive. When we had a brake failure on our towed during a trip and it had to be left at a repair shop, we got a car rental to get around in for the week we were visiting in our RV. While not optimal, it made life acceptable. We were not going to drive around in our 35' class A. Sometimes making the most out of a situation requires thinking outside the box.

California to Florida. Blew the the top off our radiator on the way to Gulf Shores. AAA sent a great crew, 1 to flat bed the van and the owner, who has a 5th wheel, got his truck and towed to trailer to our campsite at Island Retest in Gulf shore. On a Saturday. So no wheels all weekend 2 days of a rental car and a 1,000.00 to carry on. Everything does work out for the better, in the long run. 1st hour, not so good, but after that, pool, showers, guy next door went and got us stuff from a market, rental car folks were excellent and the shop top notch. It's all part of the journey/adventure. Galveston, a/c stopped. Took 3 seconds for the shop to fix it and then recharged the system. In 110 degree heat a/c is a must! 6k miles later, the month long trip was worth it even with the bs. Do it again? Hell Yes!

Last summer we started a trip from Phoenix, to Utah, Idaho, Montana, South Dakoto, Colorado, and New Mexico - only to have it end at Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park when our Jeep went into 'limp mode' (2nd gear [?] only). After 10 repair days (and still not able to fix all the problems) we aborted the trip and returned home. I hope you enjoyed anything possible.

Thank you for sharing and inspiring me to still see the bright side. That spaghetti looks good! Nathan you are a great teacher in how to handle the unexpected. So are you Marissa. A dream vacation 2wks Yellowstone Lodge, Lake Powell WRONG! Replaced water pump on RV (350 Dodge van) on the side of the road south of Flagstaff. Flushed radiator in Kanab UT. We are pulling a 22ft boat. Next morning a Sunday the boat trailer tire has lost all tread. No place in Utah to replace on a Sunday, but made it to Idaho. I have a fear of bears so for 4 days we ate & slept on the boat in the middle of Yellowstone Lake. Now we have lost the starter on van. Husband rebuilt it on picnic table. Made it to the lodge for 5 days van running fine, bought a new starter in Jackson. Yellowstone was a convention & all friends flew in & none had a vehicle so on the last day took several into the park sightseeing. At sunset stopped for them to take photos. Starter died again, so replaced on side of the road😊. Leaving the next day carburetor trouble, another roadside repair. Heading into Lake Powell from the the north, alternator quits but close to a town so got a new one, parking lot repair. Get to Bull Frog to launch the boat to find something took out the complete windshield on the boat. Cleaned up the glass & had a great Powell trip. Leaving Powell dirt road to Tuba City the van is not getting fuel. Summer, hot, mad my husband was to throw a match in the van, but made it to Tuba City. New fuel filters, but just dirt & no shade we pressed on looking for a tree. Funny thing, now the van is running just fine. Never changed the filters. He drove to Flagstaff. South of Flag he was dead tired but just wanted to get home so asked me to drive. Dark & I can handle this we went on. I noticed I started to lose chunks of rubber from left front tire so slowed down no vibration & no more flying rubber, but a car behind me started flashing it’s lights so stopped. They said I had lost a tire, flew right over their car. We all walked around van & boat, still had our tires, I didn’t run over one. They left, we looked again, then noticed the left fender on the boat trailer was missing. Front tire never blew, made it home. When I got home from work the next day we had a new. 18ft Class C motor home. I should add a 3yr old & 2 small dogs survived this trip with us. 42 years later we are on our 4th 5th wheel and wanting to head for Georgia. Love watching your travels. Never quit😊

Merissa and Nate, our family moto is "S#&t Happens". It's all about what you do when it happens not if it happens. I'm guessing that you guys are 30 days out on your videos and have already got your Jeep fixed. My guess a new transmission and clutch assembly. Mine was 6500. Good news is when they rebuild them, they get rid of the original issue and give you a 3-year warranty. Try to relax and enjoy the Journey. You're still living the dream and you have a wonderful family.

Sorry to hear about the Jeep. We have been living and traveling full-time in a 25 ft Class C for four years without a TOAD. We went to Sequoia/Kings Canyon in May 2021 without reservations and did fine. You were lucky to find a spot in Azalea. We didn’t, but found a last minute reservation at Lodgepole campground for 1 night. We boondocked along a national forest spur road and found a spot in a tiny campground Convict Flat on the road to Kings Canyon. It definitely was challenging because cell phone reception is so spotty. Definitely go for Option 3… you’re making memories. Sequoia is the first national park I remember going to in 1961 when I was 5 and 2021 was my first time back since then. Squeeze those lemons. I love kemonade

I’ve always been team travel trailer, and at the beginning of this I was thinking how nice a Class C might be for ease of packing up, but you are quickly talking me out of. Lol. Thank you. Going to stick with our trailer.

At least it isn't raining every day. At least the C didn't break down in the Death Valley.

I’m so sorry for your troubles! We are in Visalia. There is a water park right on the 198 freeway the kiddos might enjoy! We will be at the central coast in a few weeks if you guys are going to be in the area still.

In Yosemite we took our 29.5 ft class C to Glacier Point. The max was 30 ft. We made it but had to make sure the hairpin turns were clear. I hope thing go smoother for y'all soon!

I love it there. We went a few years ago and the ranger said clean out your car because bears are everywhere. My nephew said can’t we call animal control? The hotel was nice but we left early because a storm was coming soon.

I prefer the Northern approach to Sequoia myself - the other road is very winding and a little steep in a few spots. Sequoia is one of my favorite parks. We previously have rented a little park cabin at Grant in the park. Additionally we have camped in a few other campgrounds in our then tent popup trailer or camping tent. Such fun!

Have fun in the redwoods/sequoias! I grew up with the HUGE ones in the Santa Cruz mountains- I would step out of my front or back door into the redwoods- I was a wild child. Best childhood EVER!!! Maybe the reason your jeep is out of commission is because there is something greater just waiting for you to arrive......
