As I said, most Americans use the simple past in that kind of situation. We use the present perfect to talk about general past experiences (I"ve been to France a few times), past events that have a clear effect in the present (Have you lost your mind?), and past experiences that will likely repeat again (I've run two laps so far.)

'Follow' is another good alternative to 'after' Brushing my hair follows brushing my teeth. Breakfast is followed by lunch. Following my shower, I get dressed. #You can also write that one this way: I get dressed following my shower. The word 'following' can act as a preposition, but it can also be a gerund, a verb and even an adjective Gerund: Following Jennifer on Twitter adds an extra dimension to my learning. Verb: I am following Jennifer on Twitter. Preposition: I get dressed following my shower. Adjective; We will watch your following video.

I'm already using grammar we haven't studied directly, but I think that kind of exposure is beneficial. I've used the past and future, and I've thrown in some conditionals. It's unplanned, but it's good they hear a combination of my modified speech and my natural speech.

@@Englishwithjennifer It all makes sense when we look back at it, and it's hard to avoid using conditionals and other technicalities when explaining English, no matter the level. Quite often technical terms have quite basic and easy-to-explain definitions. I have noticed a very point raised on the Grammarly advert: It reveals how a sentence can take on a completely different meaning with a misplaced comma. How right they are. That was terrible Diana. (Notice how this slip up with the missing comma makes the sentence look like we're inferring Diana is terrible and was responsible for something) That was terrible, Diana (Written as it should have been written, we see it meant something quite different). Could we have yet another plan for a lesson? - Misplaced Commas. I suppose a very basic lesson on misplaced commas would work best. To fully understand commas, the students will have to go deeper into the art of syntax. As you say, Jennifer - Little by little :>)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll try to raise the volume in the next lesson. On my computer I have it at 35-40, and I can hear. My computer volume goes up to 99. It plays on my phone, too, at medium level, but each device is different.

BEFORE and AFTER - - important time words It's time for the ladies to learn how to build prepositional phrases and adverb clauses of time. We're still mainly using the present tense. The future and past forms will come soon! The vocabulary for one's daily routine is very basic. To some degree this was a review, but vocabulary skills are all about review and expansion.
