"Work and travel" has grown exponentially since I started researching this "Nomad Capitalist stuff" twelve years ago.
Working from the road is similar to working at home; you need to be self-motivated, but you also need to adjust to time zones, work from hotel rooms, find shared offices, and make phone calls from weird places.
In this video, I share my tips for working while traveling.

Legitimate question: Do you feel like the more money you make and the more time that goes along, that you're getting softer as a person? I have been seeing it in myself personally...and I'm not sure I like it. Too much money for too long = softens you. Going from being able to deal with a coach ticket to not being able to fly less than first class without feeling like blahhhh. I have been consciously flying coach for 24-30 hour flights from Asia just to keep myself grounded. Yeah, I know...it sucks. Not every time...but half the time. I don't want to be the nitpicking, crybaby rich guy that can't handle living how "regular" people do. Life is cyclical. One day you're doing well...the next you could be hungry. I just feel like staying grounded, if only occasionally, is important. Maybe it's just me.

I understand how you feel. I found it with a friend. He was travelling all over. It isn't really that you're getting softer. It's more like the tolerance levels for picking up strange flu types, typhoid, travellers diarrhoea and a few others made him weaker in a sense he needed to travel better in order to keep himself safer. The lesson was that he now needed to see in which flights he could economize without compromising his health. I think you just need to fly where you're safest at all levels.

Probably this is out of the context, but after I saw your comment it felt like a reminder-ish to me. Like, "yeah you're right, I also got to be careful of that." And personally, I think it's highly possible for it to happen and I believe we need a reminder that we're not all that great. Maybe for you, it's through flying in economy class. Kudos to you for trying to stay grounded. Cheers!

I have learnt this over the last few years too - trying to budget on places that I stay however finding simple things like having coffee and tea making facilities, a comfortable bed and good quality desk to work from are missing, all making you less productive, thus costing more in lost income and opportunities. Whilst not yet at the five star stay, paying a higher price for better quality pays off.

Great channel. One of the issues with being a nomad, and immersing yourself in it, is you assume everyone understands it. Good to point out that actually it's only a very small percentage that do...

so right on creating your little black book of places to eat. After 11 years on the road, exactly what happens. I could land at just about anywhere I had to and knew where I would go - although once in while try something new.

It amazes me how most Serviced Apartments and Hotels have crap internet. The serviced apartment I’m in right now in Frankfurt has internet where you have to log in through a crappy portal and disconnects after 3 hours then you have to reconnect. When I complained to the Manager he said that the real estate company that owns the building said that having internet which was secure and open “costs too much”. Well, there is no way I’ll ever come back to Germany again as a Nomad because not only does the landline internet suck, their mobile phone networks are even worse. I am very disappointed with Germany

Traditional nomads move their community but their habitat is always the same. I have a room set up which I do, then get specific foods, drinks etc all the same, take my favourite mug etc. The outside changes but inside I'm very stable.

One point about air travel (which may tie into your development of annoyances over time), is that whenever a flight was delayed for more than an hour, I would just get a hotel for the night and travel the next day. Doing that has save me so much hassle and aggravation.

The other massively annoying thing in "good" hotels is that there are no power points next to the bedside tables. When you come back after a day of work, you normally dump your laptop and sit down on the bed to lie down. Or, before you go to sleep, you will put your phone on charge next to you after a last check. But with hotels you have to walk over to the desk 10 feet away to put your phone / iPad / Laptop on charge. But then the problem is that there is usually only one socket. So then you have to decide which device is "more important", which is crazy because they all are. I once complained about this in the Sofitel in Sydney and the guy at checkout said that everybody complains about that. So they're willing to charge $250 AUD per night but refuse to have power points everywhere. I also made this same complaint to the Manager at the Marriott in Brisbane and she thought that there were sockets next to the beds. She then said she will personally go and check the rooms because she had never even considered that...

I carry a small power strip which has a built in converter to three 110-120V plugs and it has 4 USB charging ports. Also comes with power plug adapters. Works in the US as well (senses the voltage and just acts as a normal power strip). Very compact. Helps when dealing with places like you mentioned. But you're right, no one should have to pay that much and get the crap you described.

Andrew, you are like a twin brother from another mother...I have watched your videos and I just nod my head in agreement on so many levels in regards to the Nomad journey and growth.Growing from Expat to a Nomad life can be at times difficult but oh so rewarding if you stick to it, stay disciplined but also take the time to enjoy the process. I couldn't agree more that investing in being comfortable, not settling and going where you are treated best.....with fast internet :-) are totally key. It is so simple yet so on point.

1. Agree with you on what you called ‘corporate’ culture in another video. Arriving late at night after a ten hour flight, heavily packed and after a long taxi. I want to freshen up NOW so please give me the room keys, but no, “you have to pay first”. 2. Totally agree on the ‘not knowing what YOU need’ remark. The amount of times I’ve had to rush because internet went down, it’s incredible. Having short deadlines is really stressful. 3. I spend half of the year in Colombia. which listing is it, if I may ask? I have a hunch which company it was, but I’m not sure.

With WiFi and internet - make sure to use a VPN for security when logging into accounts, especially financial. BUT any us resident can set up a Google Fi phone (mostly data) sim cards for you that work in almost every country, Fi has no contract, you get 4+ free Sims for all your devices on one phone number and it's dirt cheap at $35/month realistically, anywhere instantly with a single sim card, no more than $80/month for unlimited mobile data. You can monitor your data usage in the app and they pay you back money each month if you use less than you signed up for, which can be a fun little financial education game, especially for kids. So in the case of non us residents, still consider Google Fi because you can just have a us friend set up the accounts. Deposit money in the account for withdrawal for a few years and forget about it.

That's funny how you're concerned about security and data breaches by employing a VPN but yet suggest you subscribe to Google FI which is one of the biggest abusers of customers data. I can tell you as a computer IT security specialist that convenience does NOT go hand in hand with protection/privacy. I'm not sure what you do for work but please don't provide advice if you indeed do not know that field of expertise.

Fuck no. Google, facebook any of this nonsense is a big NO NO for me. I use proton mail (it's not perfect but it get the job done) for communication and I use 3 different accounts for different stuff. For example, I use one mail for social life and other for professional life and another one for youtube and so on and I NEVER mix my accounts with each other e.g. I don't use my social mail with my professional mail or youtube because that's huge privacy breach regards my date and my digital footprints. So, please do your research regards this topic before posting or recommending anything to anyone. you can start here (www.reddit.com/r/privacy) and here (www.reddit.com/r/privacytoolsIO/) and you will find plenty of info regards everything privacy. Best regards Alex

This is good advice. I used to do a lot of traveling, and on principle I avoid Marriott (long story, there) and I choose to embrace the Hilton brand. For hotels, I don't need anything particularly fancy but I value predictability and consistency, so I prefer Hampton Inns by Hilton. I know their business rules, and I like knowing this. I also like that even when I go to a Hampton Inn I've never been to before, I nevertheless feel comfortable even before I walk in the door. I can recognize their red-logo-lighted sign from some distance away so I can see when I'm close. I understand how the parking works. I understand the check-in process, and the free coffee in the lobby. I like all that. Even when I go to places that don't have Hampton Inns, I try to come close by choosing Hilton. For example, about 15 years ago, I went on a European trip that was very important to me. I chose and prebooked a series of Hilton Hotels. Even though it was in Germany, it was a close-enough cultural fit. At the time, I drove a Mercedes-Benz W126 coupe in the US, so for that Europe trip, I bought the same brand and style vehicle in Europe, and I paid the buyer extra to have it in good condition, ready to go and be reliable at high speed. That way, I had one less set of variables to deal with. Instead of having to deal with "too much new stuff" I could allocate my mental energy to what I'd planned to accomplish on that trip. I didn't go out to breakfasts; I ate them at the Hilton. They were expensive but even so, it was worth it to me. The trip ended up being a big success, and my chosen approach of attending to my own mental comfort level as a matter of priority ... that probably is part of the reason why. My story intends to illustrate that I like your advice so much, I do that too. Good advice!
