I appreciate that you are committing to keeping your content free for viewers! ❤❤❤ For those who are curious, KZbin subscription is 18.99 for personal and I think 27.99 for family in same household membership. I finally broke down and got it, and I have to say, man is it worth it! I am in general against subscriptions. It definitely pays to review all of those subscriptions and things that accumulate on our credit cards. The subscription culture is out of control. We don’t even have cable anymore! Accuquilt and Electric Quilt have them now too. In my opinion, retail memberships and clubs are like lotteries-they are a tax on people who are bad at math! And they count on people to forget about them and get used to paying for them and then continue to pay for them whether they use them or not. Plus they enable shoppers to buy more than they really need/will use.

It feels like High School all over again with the memberships. You have to be in the "In Crowd". I don't do memberships as you said I would have them & forget to cancel then think why am I still in that? I would also feel pressure to buy stuff cause I have a coupon & not want to waste it. Thanks for your honesty & integrity. See you Wednesday.

Thank you for how intentional you are with your channel content and commitment. You are appreciated. I don’t do subscription boxes or memberships. I’m too frugal. I want to know what I’m actually getting for my money and don’t like projects stacking up to be completed. I stopped watching someone I watched for years because I felt like the channel turned into a commercial for whatever the creator was getting compensated for. I might be alone in this but I’m not big on watching lives either. Oh well to each their own. Thanks again. Always enjoy your channel and positivity.

I’m with you on the memberships. I always do the things that make the algorithms sing, as they say. I found quilting through KZbin and the free videos. I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort to produce videos and I enjoy watching them. This is my sewing/quilting inspiration since I don’t have any local sewing much less quilting friends. Keep up the great work! I watch EVERY one of your videos and enjoy every minute. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us newbies. See you on your next video.😊

I don’t subscribe to anything at this time. I never have but who’s to say what the future might bring. I like channels that don’t push products or if they mention it (like an Amazon affiliate) they tell you ‘no pressure to buy’. And often viewers do want to know where to find items they see in use. I am enjoying these scrap projects you have been doing. It is very surprising how beautiful some of them are and they are made with random fabric patterns and colors!! We tend to get a picture in our minds and want things more cohesive. I also appreciate the tips for controlling scraps. When you think of the word ‘scraps’ it brings to mind something that isn’t very important or useful. But when you handle them as you do, suddenly you can see how useful they are. Wishing you and your family the very best.

I enjoy seeing what you are doing. Forgot I save 2,2.5,5 and 10 inch squares and 2,5 and 5 inch strips. Anything else I cut for specific project. I find many patterns can come from these cuts. Even if I cut a 5” down they are scraps after all. Enjoy your week

I have a subscription to Stitch Obsessed with Miriam and I love it. I don't live anywhere near a quilt guild, so the twice monthly member chats that we have serve as a way to connect with fellow quilters. I have had the Sew Yeah Quilting subscription, but I didn't feel I was getting the bang for my buck with that one that I get with the other one. I've subscribed to several over the years but have never stayed long. I really appreciate the free tutorials on KZbin, because that is how I have taught myself to quilt. As for scraps, I save 2.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch squares, and everything else is basically sorted by color and I cut it when I want to use it. I spent a lot of time feeling like I didn't need to be quilting because I couldn't get all my scraps processed. I finally just had to give myself permission to do what I was able to do and let the rest go, and I'm content.

I started a membership with The Quilt Show about 5 years ago because I had found DVD's of their show on Amazon and that was so full of information. My internet at the time was very poor and I didn't have any quilt guilds I could go to. It is 49 dollars a year or you can do it monthly. It is hosted by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. They have guests for every show. They have a BOM every year that is a free pattern and you can use your own fabric or buy the kit. I saw you Hobo quilt from 2 years ago and really liked it. Thank you

Man, was I ever happy that you talked about all of this membership business. I watch several quilting you tubers and even though I love to watch and learn, I DO get so very tired of hearing about, " click on my link below because it helps me pay the bills." One of the people I watch is Pat Sloan and she is always telling us how this is her family business and she needs us to jump on board and support her. It can get a bit too much for me. I also agree with you about the issue of patterns being free. A lot of people who are selling patterns are also selling their new line of fabrics with it, which is fine, I get it. But once in a while it would be so nice to see them offer a free pattern. If you see their new line of fabric and they show it made up into a quilt that I love, I will be buying their fabric to make up into the quilt they show. It would be appreciated to even get the pattern at a discount or free at the time of purchase. I love the fat quarter shop because they offer free patterns and wouldn't you know it, after downloading the pattern I end up snooping around their shop and end up picking up a few items. As far as scrap sizes I keep: Of course the ever constant 2 1/2 inch strips of squares are always a stand by but I also keep 3 inch , 5 inch and 10 inch squares. I do also have a little bag of 1 1/2 and 1 inch background squares that I keep for using on a pattern where you need to flip and stitch corners . I just cut them out of leftover background scraps. Love all your videos and always sit and have a cup of coffee while watching. Thanks for all the work you do to get such great content out to us. You are a joy.

I know what you mean about Pat Sloan, but I guess you have to give her some credit for saying upfront that her channel is a business and she expects it to be supported if she creates the content. It’s just a different philosophy I guess. For me, I’d just rather not mention those things so much. You’ve got a nice scrapping system.

I have a Prequilt subscription which I love!! It helps me plan out quilts like if I want to make a charm square quilt I can do the layout I like and figure out how many squares I need and calculates background fabric too, and can see how different colors change the composition… helps keep fabric purchases in check and helps me have a plan if I need. I also used it to do a scale layout for the Daylesford quilt I’m working on so I could play with the print scales on the different fabrics I got. And it’s fun to design quilts I may or may not make! I shared some playful designs I made up with my brother and he actually picked one out and we reworked it in colors and a layout he loved, it was so special to do that with him! Now I’m excited to work on that quilt next. It’s $7.50 a month and I’m able to save lots of design and support this wonderful app’s continued development. I would highly recommend to other quilters as a planning and design tool!

I do two subscription boxes. Sewers Club because they provide everything for the project and I've been learning some new skills with most of the projects so far. Also I do Open Gate Quilts Subscription because she also provides all the fabric for the top and binding of the projects so all I need are backing and batting. I have plenty of fabric stash. I enjoy these boxes because I'm getting a present in the mail every month that I am actually using! My scraps go down to crumbs that are 3/4 inch and go up to 10" blocks too. I actually went over my scrap system in my you tube channel (very, very small channel and only been doing it since December)

I'm really loving the teal in the scrap busting quilt you are working on. I think that is going to be a lovely quilt. Thank you Sherri for not charging a Membership fee. I only have 2. Fat Quarter shop and The Rusted Gardener.I am an Avid Vegetable and Flower Gardner, I also can, freeze and dehydrate my vegetables and herbs, with this channel during the membership videos I can ask specific questions about gardening I need an answer for during that time and get an answer for which can be very important to me. FQS, not so much anymore. If you remember awhile back they had a sew along 2 or so times a year that has stopped. I personally do not like the behind the seams, maybe because I don't have a channel and never will unless it is a gardening channel or one on cooking or canning or food preserving. About what Kimberly said about the Sew Sampler Box I know they send everything out to Pat Sloan but could be she is such a large channel.

I just started sorting scraps. Big tub full of zip locks full. I decided to make 3 categories no matter what size. 3 tubs labeled. Kids, quilts, and everything else. Kids is just little kid fabric from quilts. Quilts are all scraps from quilts, everything else is everything else. I intend to make a quilt out of both kids and quilts. These are quilts given to kids and grandkids. 2 quilts. Everything else is getting donated. I just want a quilt made out all the scraps I made quilts since they all go to the my family.

I did well on No Sew January ... I only purchased fabric that I did not have in my stash and specific items needed for a sewing class. I am going to try to keep this momentum going through this year. Of course, for me, it will mean that I will avoid shop hops as I always obligated to purchase something to support the shop I am visiting. Thank you for your talk on KZbin subscriptions. I got caught up in the FOMO and had 3 different KZbin subscriptions. During your talk, I decided that I not really benefited from the subscriptions and cancelled all 3, freeing up funds for other things. Thank you for sharing your views on this topic. I appreciate that you are not asking for membership fees. I have done several scrappy binding strips. I grouped them into two categories - colorful and dark. Since I make a lot of scrap quilts, those bindings have worked perfectly. I have a laundry basket with strings, another bin of crumbs, color sorted bins for 2 1/2" squares, and another bin for 2 1/2" strips. I have been using 1 1/2" squares as L&E to make 16 patches for some time now. I have a queen quilt planned for those for my gr'son.

Thank you for working so hard to give us your time and share your talents with us for free, though if you did charge, I would be right there signing up. I'm very glad that we can make up for it by being here and sharing with you every week. You are the best! You give us something to look forward to all week long, not just one day, and I appreciate how hard you work for that. I look forward to every show. P.S. ❤️ Will we get to see Blue again soon? I Cut the Scraps (book) as suggested, from largest to smallest, 10", 5", 3.5", 2.5", and 1.5". I am finding more and more that patterns are calling for 8", 6.5", and 4.5". If you have stacks of 6.5", they can be quickly trimmed down to 6" and 5.5" blocks. I also have rectangles to make flying geese with 2.5 x 4" (2.5" corners) and 1.5" x 3" (1.5" corners) The best way to store scraps is in quilts, so I have one day a week where I sew small blocks together (e.g. flying geese Star blocks, square in a square, etc. ) that will be ready for upcoming projects.

I found that 10" and 5" squares need to be cut down again for most scrap projects and I didn't want to recut cut scraps. So I went through my patterns, quilt books, and magazines to figure out which projects that I want to make that would work well with scraps. I then went through the patterns and figured out the most common shapes and sizes these patterns that I want to make use. For patterns not in books, I have been putting them in a binder specifically for scrap projects. I often use these scrappy projects as leaders and enders so they come together slowly as I am working on other projects. This can be a smaller list of shapes and sizes depending on what kind of scrappy projects you want to make. Here is the list of the shapes and sizes I need for my scrappy patterns. Squares 2", 2.5", 3.5", 4.5" Rectangles 2x3.5", 2.5"x4.5", 3.5'x6.5" Strips 1.5", 2", 2.5" 1" finished hexagons for EPP

Memberships; I think you have to spend a lot of money to save money, or to save enough money to make them worth the monthly cost. It’s like everything else; coffee, memberships, soap, memberships, etc. I admire the fact that you are not trying to. get rich from your subscribers. Jelly roll club is the same way. I know there are people that probably need the money, but it seems to be that the really big channels/corporations/businesses are the ones that make the most money and probably need it the least. Several of them just seem like infomercials. I truly truly enjoy you,, Your style, and your presentation. I look forward to all of your videos. Thank you.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I got the Sew Yeah membership. I'm changing my buying patterns. I'm trying to plan my purchases a bit more. So more purchases from their website, and less from the online sales. And I have come out ahead with my discounts verses the membership fee. I also enjoy the "behind the curtain" vlog, and don't mind giving a bit of support for the entertainment for the months I don't quite brake even with the discounts. I'm happy with my membership. It was the right choice for me at this point in my life. Will I still be happy in 3 months, or 6 months? If I'm not, I will cancel, no problem. I know, from past interactions, it will only take a one sentence text with Sew Yeah to cancel.

I don't pay extra for memberships, patrons, fabric clubs, boxes that ship monthly, blocks of the month. I have to be in control of what I spend money on. I don't do the mystery boxes or clubs because I can't get past the thought of "what if I don't like it?" or "what if I get something I already have?" I do always watch your video from beginning to end and I don't skip ahead--I've heard that causes the video not to 'count' as being watched. Is that right? When I first started quilting I had a bin for each color of scraps. Then I watched Lori Holt and decided to sort my scraps into 1/2" increments from 1.5" to 5". I keep 10" squares with my layer cakes. Most of my scraps in these bins are solids from backings, borders, and backgrounds. When I finish a quilt I've been keeping leftovers together in plastic bags. My thought is to make some blocks with my leftover fabrics so that I have a quilt/quilts with random assortment of blocks from other quilts that I've made. Kimberly on FQS has shared some really cute blocks that she makes into house blocks and star blocks for example. My dilemma is that I haven't touched my separated bags of fabrics so I haven't moved forward with this idea. Thanks for your honest jibber jabber. 🙂

It sounds like you have a great system! As for the skipping on videos, the fast forwarding doesn’t count. As an example, if the video is 20 minutes and you fast forward through 5minutes of it, I will get credit for 15 minutes of view time. Now you can go to settings and increase the overall video playback speed and that would all count as view time. And an example of that would be, all 20 minutes of the video at 2x the speed is still 20 minutes of view time.

I open up my 2.5” leftover binding and press it flat and add it to by 2.5” strip scrap bin or cut 2.5” squares. My 2.25” binding goes into my scraps for log cabins or gets cut to HSTs to go with my leftover HSTs.

I canceled them after a few boxes. I like to watch unboxing of them to see if there's something new in them that I might want to buy separately. I don't think any youtube membership has really been something I needed. I have been a member to a couple of quilt and health memberships, mostly trying to help support the provider, but haven't felt like they were really helping me. I love the fat quarter shop sew sampler box, but do I need it, no. Maybe if I was just starting out and didn't already have a stash. I can't believe when I order a kit, or block of the month, then look around at all the fabric and projects I have going. How dumb can I get! I don't know of a membership that Missouri star has, I already buy too much from them with their daily deals, and specials. I hope I'm finally getting smarter to just stop! No fabric addict here! Lol

For scraps I keep 2.5, 5, and ten inch squares and strips if there is enough fabric. I can cut any of them down later if I need a smaller size. Then fat quarters, half yards and yardage. This gives me usable pieces for most patterns . I separate by color, also.

You asked what I keep for scraps so I will share that I do keep 2 1/2 inch and 5 inch squares. The rest I try to keep in strips whether they be inch 5“, 7 inch and 10 inch strips that can be cut down into the size I need and they are stored by color not width. I also keep in a separate bin 2 1/2 inch strips and 2 inch strips for strip quilts and one and ahalf inch strips for paper piecing. Again, I try to keep them sorted by lights and darks. my yardages are folded and stored into fat quarters, and the rest are larger that are folded and sorted by color with the exception of separate spaces for Christmas, Halloween, 30s, and boutiques. They’re all in bins on shelves in the basement.

Thank you for saying you won't go to paid membership. I tried the Sew Yeah membership for the first 2 months and did not think it it was worth it. It's also too high of a monthly cost. A scrap quilter also has memberships, which I tried, but I was not learning anything new so I cancelled it. If I am interested enough in a pattern that a channel offers, I am willing to pay for it such as Sew the Distance. I bought her pattern for a gift box quilt ( made 2 of them as Christmas gifts) and last night spent a whole $2 on her latest pattern because it gave measurements for a variation that I liked. Memberships add up very quickly and get out of control.
