I'm super stoked to be working on some selfish knits!! Let's see how many of these I can accomplish with a new baby coming any day now :) but I do have plenty of knitting time awaiting his arrival... Thank you so much for spending some time with me x wishing you all a great week ahead!

My baby is 6 months old, and knitting really kept me sane during the first few weeks. I was able to hold him while I knit, and I was able to make more than I thought I could.

Loving the mini mood-boards you have for each project. I suggest alternating skeins of the mohair every round for your rust/brown sweater, it’s recommended for avoiding pooling of colours in hand-dyed yarns so it should work nicely with the different mohairs😊
@sarahzammikiel24842 жыл бұрын
For the different mohairs, maybe try to split the cone in half and use helical knitting to alternate. If you hold a strand of wool and one mohair and alternate it with another strand of the wool and the other mohair it might work. With helical knitting there is also no place where there is an obvious change in yarn, so there is no place where you would have to worry about tension issues. I have tried helical knitting before and I used Knitty Natty's video and found it to be an easy fix. I hope this helps!

You often hear of women saying they didn't even get to shower when their babies were newborns, so I had that in mind when you were talking about all of these projects. But I imagine your baby in a sling or wrap and you knitting while holding him, and I think it's doable! I didn't knit when my kids were babies, and I really wish I had. 😊

I LOVE all of the inspiration boards you shared for each project, and your excitement for the selfish knits is very noticeable! The fabric for your purple sweater is sooooo dreamy, and seeing your progress is motivating me to crank out the second sleeve of my Louvre before it cools off in Toronto. I’m also planning a creamy knitting for olive merino + mohair raglan this fall, and I have opted for Sari Nordlund’s Auer pullover because I love how the shaping doesn’t cut across the chest too much. It’s also a bottom up sweater where you knit the sleeves separately, so it may be great if you’re craving a challenge through a new construction. I hope your last few weeks before baby arrives are as relaxing as they are exciting

For me, the beginning of September is present planning time. I try to make as many gifts as possible myself, so I don't really have time for many selfish projects. There are also a couple of birthdays in fall to consider and plan for - presents to make, cards to ship, etc. Anything I make for myself would be more of an "Oh no, it's getting colder and I have nothing warm to wear" types of projects :'D

I am watching the episode from Sept 4, where you share the project you are working on, the everyday sweater by Drea Renee knits. I thought it pretty cool because I, myself, am knitting that very sweater too. For me it will be my first knitted sweater or garment at all, me being knew to knitting, I normally crochet. I wanted to share with you that we are working on the same project as you. I also wanted to say that I enjoy watching your channel, it's nice to listen to you talk about what you are doing while I work on my own thing. Like listening to a friend chat with me. I am looking forward to seeing all the baby things you come out with as well as possibly seeing baby once baby comes into the world. Congratulations on becoming a mommy soon. 😊

Love the ideas for the cinnamon cone sweater. For the moe hair, I wonder if you could helical knit that. I have never done that with a yarn that is being held double with but I can imagine that one moe hair ball would just hang out and wait while you work with the other. That way you do not need to unravel them and splice them together, but the project will still have the two colors mingling with one another (one row of each alternating in a subtle striped look- I doubt you will notice it at all) - Good luck!

Hey. Taking about alternating mohair. You can alternate every 2-4rows. That would nicely combine them without clear line

omg it was so lovely to see you all excited for the Wednesday sweater (now I want an oversize lavender sweater myself 😅) and the video in general was so cosy and aesthetic. It happened that I just settled down on my autumn-winter knitting plan and ordered yarn from Drops just last night! I plan to knit Nele sweater from Gregoria Fibers, Terrazzo slipover and Ingrid sweater from PetiteKnit and Waffle sweater from Knitting for Olive. If I do get enough motivation to plan something myself, I’d also like to knit a scrap yarn sweater in Laerke Bagger sort of style because I’ve collected enough scrap yarn after knitting for almost two years hehe

I knit the Zipper Sweater Man for my boyfriend last year and it’s an amazing knit! He has similar store bought jumpers with the zipper designs previously, but they were all worn out so I knew it would be something he would wear a lot. I think the fit it very easy to pull off and I am certain your husband will love it! I would just recommend for you to measure the sizes of jumpers he already knows before you decide on a size for this piece. It is rather oversized and PetiteKnit recommends sizing down if you want a more fitted look. My boyfriend always wears at least a size L, but for this one I ended up knitting a size M. It’s still roomy and a good size for him, so I think the finished garment measurements is a better guide here to find the right amount of ease than the size guide.

Good luck with everything and I can't wait to see how your sweater turns out.

I hope you can keep the sweater a surprise! It's so much fun! I've knit a surprise sweater for my hubby once. I made him tell me which combo he liked best for the stripes but I didn't tell him it was for him (we both wear mostly blacks and grays so not a problem here) and then, while I was knitting the sweater, he was telling me that it looked really nice 😄He never thought I was making it for him lol! You're right about the heat. Summer is great but not when it's too hot. I think we're in the perfect time of the year (here at least) now that days are warm but nights are a bit chill. I haven't planned any specific knitting for Fall. There will certainly be socks though, (there's always socks) 🙃🧦 And I've placed an online order of Fall teas this weekend 🍂🍵

@Well-Loved Knits Hi Bethany, I hope you are well. Regarding your rusty brown sweater, I was thinking along the same lines as @AU-TV about mixing the mohair colours. There's also the possibility of making subtle stripes (changing the mohair every few rounds instead of every round). Or you could make a subtle gradiant by using one colour of mohair for the first third of the sweater, then changing the mohair at every round for the second third and finishing off by using only the second colour of mohair. Some options to consider. It's always nice to have options. :-) I can't wait to see how things turn out.

My best idea for the mohair for the DRK everyday sweater is to treat it how people prevent pooling with hand-dyed variegated yarns. That is to say, either alternate the Drops and HipKnitShop every other row, or every two rows. That way, you should be able to avoid cutting the yarn or re-skeining it together! Hope this helps :)

One suggestion from a fellow knitter and recent first-time mom (my son was born last October). I would consider knitting more sweaters without mohair. Immediately after my son was born, I knit myself a magnolia bloom sweater with one strand of wool and one strand of mohair. While it turned out lovely, my baby would end up covered in mohair, especially in his hands as he would grasp onto my sweater. I ended up hardly wearing it at all last fall/winter because it was too much hassle and I didn't want him inhaling any of the mohair.
