As a 21 year old girl who is getting married this year, I find that I don’t fit in with most people my age. I have goats and a garden currently on my parents land so I have limitation that won’t be present when I have my own farm. I dream of my someday farm constantly and I’m doing my best to “turn my waiting room into a classroom” by cooking homemade, from scratch, meals for my family a couple nights a week. If it wasn’t for your videos I would have had no idea where to start. Most people my age are in college, partying, and eating cheap food, which I have no interest in. I am perfectly content staying home on a Friday night to simmer bone broth on the stove for hours. I find so much joy in this -simple but hard-slow but rewarding-lifestyle. Every time I share something I have learned from you with my family I start with “My friend Jess says….” And even though you don’t know me at all, you are truly such an important role model to me. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge with us and I promise to pass it down to my children one day❤️

For me, what I need is for you to do is shop the grocery store, plan the menus, cook the food…and do the dishes. 😆If that doesn’t pan out. Just keep doing what you do. It is really good.

Sooooo....I have been cooking since I could literally pull a chair to the counter or stove and reach, right along side my momma. I was raised to cook down-home, old-fashioned, country foods. Now that I have reached the age of not needing that chair, 50 yrs 😂, I truly struggle with incorporating my garden herbs into THAT type of cooking. I don't want to get fancy at this point, I just want to learn how to add in some freah or dried herbs into, say, meatloaf or beef and cabbage, ect. That would be a pretty cool thing to tell my family; "I learned this from my friend, Jess"❤❤❤

As Jess has mentioned, because of her own diet restrictions, she really doesn't do a ton of sourdough. Its definitely something you have to get into the rhythm of (ie you bake bread several times a week or at least weekly) to really master, because its as much art as science. Highly recommend Lisa with Farmhouse on Boone for all things sourdough (she has a family of 10 and takes the hand wringing out of the process). Pro Home Cooks (also KZbin) also has a great series.

Follower from roots and refuge. Grew up on crop farm. Lost my dad 15 years ago. My grandmother’s made everything from scratch. My mom didn’t follow that. But my dad was always a steward of the land - using no-till, cover crops and conservation/restoration practices that won him an award (unfortunately after he passed away). Growing a garden has brought me such joy. I have basic knowledge of cooking from scratch but have really enjoyed this channel. I now feel confident to spatchcock chicken. I’m eager to learn more about baking bread, canning (have done water bath, pondering pressure) am also interested in fermentation. The back to basics has been so important to me lately. Thank you! ☺️

Hi Jess My name is Jenna, my partner and I just purchased 13 acres in Australia WA currently we are living 9 hours away from our little Homstead in a small mining town called Kambalda, until our house is built. I also currently fly in and out of Perth which is about 7 and a half hours away and a 2 hour flight, to work on a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off roster, so essentially I currently live in x3 different places, sounds so insane when I say it out aloud, but this will be my reality for the next 2 years until our house is built on the farm, watching your videos which I have done for quite some time now has helped me change my waiting room into a classroom and has really helped me not to focus to much on the now but on where we will be once our house is built, so I just wanted to say thank you because in my lowest moments when I sit and wonder "What the heck am I doing" I can turn to one of your KZbin videos and remember my "Why" all over again.

It’s because of your Roots and Refuge cooking and canning videos that I have canned quarts and pints of organic potatoes and organic pinto beans (purchased on sale from our local USChef Store)! I’ve learned so much from your gardening videos, but I feel like your cooking videos have set me free to truly enjoy my own creativity and courage in my kitchen at the tender age of 71! I love the Farmer’s Table just as much as I do Roots and Refuge. I’m dehydrating my Meyer lemon crop as well as freezing lemon juice cubes and preparing to make marmalade. I’ve canned jams and jellies and chutneys - but until I watched you do it, I never thought I could can “everyday foods” to create my own “fast food” for busy days. My pressure canner is a treasure and I only own one now because I watched you use yours! Thanks for the wonderful example you set of “just doing”!

I have always loved it when you do recipes and cooking videos, even back in the old kitchen before the remodel when the cupboard doors were hanging off! You have introduced me to Weck jars, reminded me about cast iron, and my children declared your Dutch Baby pancake to be the best they've tried. This is to say nothing of the gardening advice, and the spiritual and emotional advice and support. I also love your podcast! I don't need much help with cooking, I just love sharing recipes and good food. I feel like chatting about what to eat is almost as good as the eating itself. I followed you from R&R. I am an experienced cook from scratch home cook & baker. That said, there are many things that I've never delved into before, like making my own homemade vanilla. I just went to my local alcohol store & bought multiple varieties of rum, bourbon & vodka to try 12 varieties of vanilla extract. I don't drink so I had to read the flavor profiles of each bottle & get advice from all the other shoppers who had a great laugh at my expense! This lil adventure is thanks to your video about that. I think something that would be interesting is if you did a weekly or monthly poll on maybe 3 new recipes. After X amount for time for people to vote, you cook the most popular one & everyone that wants to, can join along. It would really be neat if it was a "live" cooking video. I'm sure live videos are a lot of pressure, but it's just an idea. I'm looking forward to following along to see what else inspires me!

I followed you from Roots & Refuge. Have enjoyed the variety of topics over the last several years. Some topics that interest me are preserving food, knowing what to look for when buying land-growth potential and limits, gardening methods, and networking/generating income/finding clients for homemade things. Almost 5 years ago I retired early from teaching to be my mothers caregiver. Hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. She’s still teaching me. Huge life transition for me. Learning to be still and present in the moment challenging yet rewarding. I’ve not had a vision of life after mom for several years now. Dreaming got in the way of caregiving, so I put it on a shelf and looked at it from time to time. You could say that I changed my mindset to focus on what I needed to do. I know change is just around the corner and God will open doors when it is time. Soon my mom will win her battle with Alzheimer’s. She loved watching you, your family, and all the animals. Thanks for all of your encouragement to make my waiting room into a classroom. Forever changed. 💜

Making a quick pizza sauce from canned crushed tomatoes and freezing/canning the remainder into useable portions. When you moved to your current homestead and decided to can grocery store pizza sauce into small jars because you didn’t have your own tomatoes, it was genius. I wish you much success!

I’ve been following you since 2018. I honestly felt a calling that year to get serious about growing our own food and in 2020 I thanked the Good Lord for that! Gardening before then just frustrated me but I really wanted to love it. At the time I was buying all of my plants from local greenhouses and it was getting very pricey. You taught me how to start everything I grow and now it’s all from seed. You made me fall completely in love with my garden. Every year when my onions sprout (they’re the first seeds I start) I tear up because they are such little miracles to me. As far as what I’d like to see from you, absolutely anything. I’d watch you muck out barn stalls. You’re entertaining, inspiring and highly relatable! You and your family are so precious to me!💞

I followed you from R&R, and I went there a few years back because I started gardening and had some struggles, so - KZbin. I love being in my kitchen and cooking from scratch. I struggle with my weight, and after trying about 100 different "diet plans" I decided that I wanted to put my efforts into cooking like my grandma did. With real food, and less preservatives and packaging. It's a lost art, and I now worry about our children and grandchildren. I'm so thankful for your channels. And, I LOVE you smile and your upbeat attitude. For me: 1)I've had more failed attempts than successful ones with sourdough bread. 2) I feel like I need all the gadgets but not enough real estate. So, I'd love to see videos on troubleshooting sourdough bread problems and practical kitchen organization.

I started watching R&R IN 2018 while recovering from back surgery! I had wanted raised beds for years, but I couldn't get my husband to build them. Waching you gave me the encouragement to find a way to do it myself so I got bricks piled in the yard & dry laid them to make two beds. I lived by myself for 15 years & experimenting with cooking. I got married & my husband didn't like this or that, so I stopped. I had a son & he ate like me until he got "indoctrinated" by school lunches & only wanted pizza & fries. Now, at the age of 68, and after a hip & knee replacement and inspiration from you & Meg Hollar, I'm trying whatever & telling them you can eat this or not! If you don't like it, fix yourself a peanut butter sandwich! 😊 Thank you! Oh, BTW, if I saw you in person, I'd be like... JESSICA SOWARDS! 🤣 The same as CHARLES DOWDING! 😂😂😂 Love you & your family, Jessica.

I found you in Spring of 2018 when I got a thought in my head about making raised garden beds for myself and started looking on KZbin for ideas. You got me hooked on heirloom tomatoes (I grow 60 varieties each year) and cattle panels (I have 12) and now I’m into growing all the food and flowers I can pack into my garden spaces that are on all 4 sides of our home on a city lot…just under a quarter acre including the house/driveway, but every foot of garden space is planted intensively and used well. Thank you for making a difference in my life. You’re an inspiration.

I am learning to cook from scratch. I am late to the game, had no idea how horrible our food industry is, until I learned. I lost both my parents to cancer and I have made it my goal to find out why so many are getting this disease. It all stems back to food and everything we put in our bodies. I love watching those who already know how to cook from scratch and see what they make. Thanks!

I've been a "convenience eater" most of my life and I'm trying to change that and have been loving it so far! My biggest hiccup is finding recipes that don't take hours in the kitchen. I love that you are a "grit" cooker. Meaning you've got a family to feed, a budget to deal with, and other responsibilities, but dinners gotta get on the table. Very relatable! For me, your videos are what I wish Grandma would have taken the time to teach us grandkids back in the day. I've made your biscuits and the Dutch Baby several times. And today, we had your crackpot hot chocolate for the second time. I find the recipes practical and easy to read. I'm a homeschooler, so three meals a day for the fam at my house. I would love to get lunch ideas. I feel so stuck with that meal that I'm turning to convince food like chicken nuggets. I also garden (a small backyard, but it's nice). I have always cooked and loved feeding my family. Haven’t always had a big garden while we were working and raising our family but grew tomatoes and cucumbers most summers. I have been an whole-food, real-food ingredient cook for 14 plus years after my husband and myself’s battle with Lyme and autoimmune diseases. What I at one time considered home cooking, I became acutely aware was store bought convenience, of which my body now lets me know it will not tolerate if I even try to cheat. With all that said, I have picked up on several tips, short cuts and ah-huh thoughts just watching you. Hi Jess 😊 i'm one of those, who followed you on the farm for a long time now. I live in Denmark, and i've had gardens multipel times in my life, but one in particular the last 4 years. This garden is only 340 square meters, but I put All My Joy and All edibles in it as possible. I am an ok cook, but reli heavily on cookbooks and recipies. What i love about you style at the farmers table, is that you tell about all the possible variations to the recepy. My dream is to go out in My garden, harvest what's at its best right now, go to My kitchen and cook the best meal ever from This. To cook whithout a recepy, other than perhaps some basic knowlegde about - whatever is necesary. I love your natural way of making your videos, your straightforwardnes, and you inspire me both in my garden and My kitchen. Best regards Hanne ❤

I’m not a cook (but have been cooking for almost 50 years) I’m not good at following recipes. We raise our own chicken & pork plus we also harvest our own venison. I also grow a garden. My problem is making tasty meals from ingredients. My husband can look into the fridge or pantry & pull something tasty together. I just cook basic; tacos, spaghetti, grilled meat, etc. and usually the same meals every week. That’s where I need help. Variety & pulling it all together into something tasty. Thankful for your new channel. I’ve been following you for five years now. Excited to watch the build of your home 🥰

Hi Jess! I would LOVE to see a video about each vegetable you grow in your garden and how you preserve it, and what you use it for. For example, a video on onions could be how many you grow and why, the seasons you plant them in, a recipe highlighting that veggie, and how you preserve them. I have a veggie garden and I'm starting to recognize things like, I want to plant more tomatoes because my goal is to freeze tomatoes for making soup in the winter, canning salsa and to stock the pantry with tomato sauce. I also froze some bags of cherry tomatoes to use in a baked feta pasta recipe. I'd just love to hear your thoughts process on what you grow, how much, and why. I love your channels, thank you! ❤

Enjoying your new channel Jess. Been watching Roots and Refuge pretty much since you got serious about KZbin. I have been wanting to see how you use all the things you grow so I am very excited about The Farmer's Table! Keep all of the cooking and preserving videos coming. It would be helpful to see how you store items in your pantry, freezer, etc. Really trying to be more mindful of being stocked and going to the store less frequently. It feels like a big hurdle to transition from grocery store shopping to buying in bulk or getting food locally. Your passion and the way you break things down are a gift from the Lord and I love the way you have the heart of a teacher. Keep being real.
