Great video Phil. Yea be careful on those big rounds. I agree it’s cold out. I usually wear carhart cold weather gear. I have been wearing something new. The company is called Berne. What I like about them is the chest of bibs zips down to the crouch and your not unbuckling and shoulder straps and then everything in your pockets goes flying everywhere when the chest pockets flip over. There waterproof also. Jackets really heavy. Check them out. They sent me free pair of socks too with my order. Thought I would share.

Reminds me a few years back. Had my nephew take down 28 trees with a feller buncher, took hm just over an hour. Some 34in + oak close to the house. That unit would cut through up to 24in. Cut from one side then spin and finish. That PTO driven stickler cone wedge works well to quarter an make them manageable. I know your set in your way, I love using the tape measure and marker paint.....
@AllenFamilyFirewood8 күн бұрын
I still need to come down an see that cone split . Them feller bunchers can put some wood down in a hurry . I’ve seen em up north clear cut massive tracks of land in just a few days . My boy showed up the other day an had just bought a mingo marker but I’m perdy sure ya gota keep them spray paint cans in ware it’s warm or it’s gone end badly if one a them blows up in ya truck . Said he would bring it back in the spring .

Looks like it was a little nippy out there does make us move faster doesn’t it which is hard to do sometimes just a food for thought. I don’t know if you have any blueberry farms or vegetable farms around, but I’ve been taking my sawdust and hauling it to some people that they swap either blueberries or vegetables for my sawdust which I usually take about a 1 ton load up every time it gets rid of my sawdust and helps me and the wife out with some blueberries or some vegetables for canning and as far as those big ones go I used to cut those in quarters after I cut them 16 inch long just so I could handle them ha ha you both have a good weekend and be safe love your video. Keep them coming Lee Hillsgrove Trucking signing off 👍
@AllenFamilyFirewood8 күн бұрын
I’ve asked the farm if they wanted the sawdust but they only want kiln dryed . If I had a place to store it in under cover there are horse people that will buy it for $10 a yard but it has to be fairly dry . I’ve been using on the steep sand banks on the edge of the wood yard to keep it from eroding. Bucket full of scraps from around the splitter an a bucket of sawdust and it seems to bind up good to keep it from washing away . I’m probably going to quarter them big ones up but I might just put a few of em on the axis to see how it does .

The one good thing about being old id that I don't have to go outside when it is that cold and the wind is blowing. Living in Maine, you are probably used to it. I would love to be able to do my cutting with a grapple or pallet forks. It makes it so much easier when you don't have to worry about hitting the ground. That bin that you made for cutting rounds in probably keeps a lot of the wind off you.
@AllenFamilyFirewood8 күн бұрын
My favorite days to work are sunny days with the temps around 20 degrees . That bunker does cut some of the wind but when it’s down around 10 degrees the wind really cuts right through ya . The forks are nice for the first 15-30 logs but after that it’s faster to cut them off the pile .
@WilleysFirewood8 күн бұрын
Those big rounds make a lot of firewood but they are a lot of work too

On your 4x4 pallets I would use them as 4x3 and you would have plenty of air flow going through them also you could save a pair of brackets to use on the 6ft pallets using them would help with the shortage of pallets and a lot of labor just a thought from an 81 year old keep up the good work and do not work the stacking lady to much
