+Ender Pony Thank you, nobody seems to understand. The resonance cascade was caused by a highly trained _professional_ trolley pusher. Do you have any idea how much worse it would have been if it were an amateur in the test chamber? Let me put it this way: There would have been no Half Life 2, that's for sure.

54:30 that's one thing I hate. Everyone puts famous people on pedestals, and they're outraged when their perfect mask slips for just a moment and the very real human being is seen beneath. They themselves have been dicks to other people, have lost their tempers, have been too busy to talk to someone - but as soon as someone in the public eye does that, they're suddenly monsters. The crime of being human.

Ah fuck, I'm not a fan of the ragdolling in this source mod. You're supposed to be able to vent aggression by whacking the corpses until they explode in a mess of meat chunks and blood stains, instead of this sterile rubber chicken bullshit

I honestly think this game sorta looks worse on Source. You have models and textures from around 1998 mixed in with lighting, rag dolls, water, and particle effects from a more modern game engine. It just doesn't look right. The art style is all over the place.

+Fors Clavigera I like to think that it just pops up automatically whenever there's radiation or something flying at the user's head. If you look at the helmet texture, it looks like it has folds on it, like it's reinforced fabric, so popping up would make sense.

6:31 - actually, that's a different beer Barney owes Gordon at the start of HL2. Since according to Blue Shift, he was the guard you passed in the tram, the one banging on a door. This guy died during the resonance cascade, you can find his body if you backtrack later. So I guess there are some things Yahtzee doesn't know about Half-Life.

44:15 Actually starbreeze did commentary mode with escape from butcher bay for the PC (December 3, 2004), and valve first did commentary blobs in half life 2 lost coast (October 27, 2005). I don't remember exactly how the commentary was done in escape from butcher bay, might be identical to valve approach or somehow tied to the collectible cigarette packets with each unlocking a commentary, it's been a while.

God damn, never will I say that Yahtzee doesn't work hard. Based on the schedule he described he is perpetually juggling 2 projects every week while release one on the same week year round, minus new years. And he's been doing this for almost a decade!!! Not to mention finding the time to write 2 novels and doing the drown outs/ let's plays for almost 2 and a half years now! The man doesn't know how to not be busy.
@fraziercrawford
@fraziercrawford Жыл бұрын
It flummoxes me how well he must be able to schedule himself. It's extremely hard being funny, even if you can technically fill a missing 90 seconds with 4 or 5 ramble-gags. And a lot of stuff he does is situational funny, which requires a lot of planning a foresight. And a lot of OTHER stuff he does is dramatic, and still OTHER stuff he does is technically. Truly a marvel of a man

Actually, the crystal that fucks up everything is brought back from the world Xen. Black Mesa has a top secret sector (of which there are some unfinished maps in the game files) housing a teleportation device before all of this even goes down. Several research teams go to the Xen world using it, some of them even suffering heavy casualties (hence the "great lengths"), bringing back a bunch of wildlife and inhabitants for research. And the crystal as well. It's mentioned in HL2 (ep1 I think) that G-man was key in replacing the original intended crystal for the test with this one that caused the disaster, implying that he wanted for the disaster to happen and for the combine to eventually invade earth. The more you know.

+Liam McMurrich "The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world..." The G-Man's motives are alien and mysterious. Perhaps he intends the people of Earth to act as a distraction so that Gordon might destroy the Combine, a galaxy/dimension-spanning empire, altogether. When he tries to put Gordon back in stasis in between the base game of HL2 and Episode 1; he may be waiting for another opportunity to deal a heavy blow to the combine later, or he might have been moving him to another fight on yet another world.

I can't remember if there were any, but having a scientist or two at least try to fight back with a gun would of been cool to see, even if it's just a skin swap with a guard. I say that because that scientist at 56:10 was hunkered down in a room with a shotgun and health packs. Would of been neat to see him shooting at anything that moves going by him and either letting you run by him or throw a grenade in there

Some lore for people who didn't know, The science team were exploring xen before the event, which is how they got the crystals. It's explained a bit more in Blue Shift and OP. The test was them trying to expand teleportation technology, which they already have, it's just unstable and the "resonant cascade" is a often talked about side effect that could possibly happen.

Hundreds of videos in and for the first time we actually know how long it takes to make a ZP video. What a glorious day.

Weird, CPR actually doesn't work that way. It's supposed to keep people from going legit dead when their heart only stopped recently. It basically stretches the time in which a defribillator might still revive somebody. So take that Half-Life! Your neat little touch was immersionbreaking for anyone who had a first-aid course halfway recently!

What if that guy's heart hadn't stopped (he just passed out) and the scientist just panicked and did CPR on someone who didn't need it?

@@rodrigotolosa590 he‘d break his ribs for nothing, I guess. If you‘re actually passed out, the pain probably won‘t wake you up like that.

Yeah, he was well liked, but in the original he was comic relief and in the sequel he was a glorified cameo.

Christopher Silva FALLOUT 3. basically the engine wasn't built to support moving vehicles so they created tram cars and marked them as headgear, slapped them on top of a few NPCs in a line underneath the tracks, out of view of the player and set them to run along a fixed path to simulate a moving vehicle.

I think that was an AMAZING touch in Deus Ex...I went into the women's bathroom to look for items or whatever, and at my briefing as one last note your boss goes "And PLEASE stay out of the women's bathroom" Just a tiny little touch but it kinda blew my mind because it's a very small, but very realistic touch

I notice you are not using the Blue Shift update(yes it works in source). Which revamped the textures, exchanged the models and guns etc etc. In the original as see here, all the models just had texture mapping, so everything was just painted on like a model kit. Where as with the BSU things like the Scientist's ties and glasses got physical models, same with the Guards armor and the Soldiers. Guns got prettier or swapped out, for example, the pistol in the original is the glock cause it was easy to model being all square and shit, with the upgrade it became the Beretta 92fs. Same with the machine gun, in the original its an MP5, in the BSU replaced with a M16. BTW I didn't see if you mentioned or not that Half life is based off Stephen King's The Mist. In the mist scientists at a government base called the Arrow head Project, are trying to open a "window" to another dimension when a storm fucks shit up causing it to rip open a hole between the dimensions and let the lovecraftian monsters out. Halflife is that from the point of view from one of the scientists.

Have. The tram thing was in Fallout 3 Broken Steel. When going on the tram in the presidential tunnel the tram you're in is just a big clothing item that the game puts on you and forces you to run really fast

The intro to Duke Nukem 3D was the end of Duke Nukem 2. :) In regards to the two bodies issue it was in Fallout 3 - but think I saw a clip on youtube with a top ten on stuff like that. Obviously I can´t find it again now.

In Half-Life 2 they lowered the shotgun ammo to around 30 or so, yes. But then it didn't matter because they gave ammo to you in absolutely every place they could because it was the most consistently performing weapon outside of very specific combat situations and made every pick up worth 20 shells anyway. I went out of my way not to use the shotgun when I didn't feel like it, which was often, but still ended up using it more than any other weapon for convenience sake, and in fact due to the ubiquity of the ammunition which they needn't have bothered to cap anyway.
