54:30 that's one thing I hate. Everyone puts famous people on pedestals, and they're outraged when their perfect mask slips for just a moment and the very real human being is seen beneath. They themselves have been dicks to other people, have lost their tempers, have been too busy to talk to someone - but as soon as someone in the public eye does that, they're suddenly monsters. The crime of being human.

Actually, the crystal that fucks up everything is brought back from the world Xen. Black Mesa has a top secret sector (of which there are some unfinished maps in the game files) housing a teleportation device before all of this even goes down. Several research teams go to the Xen world using it, some of them even suffering heavy casualties (hence the "great lengths"), bringing back a bunch of wildlife and inhabitants for research. And the crystal as well. It's mentioned in HL2 (ep1 I think) that G-man was key in replacing the original intended crystal for the test with this one that caused the disaster, implying that he wanted for the disaster to happen and for the combine to eventually invade earth. The more you know.
@baronvonconnectfourthethir19299 жыл бұрын
If the G-Man wanted the combine to invade why did he wake Gordon up to fight them?

+Gerex I think some behind the scenes stuff states that the sample is the same kind of crystal that you have to destroy in the final boss fight.
@MisterBones29109 жыл бұрын
+Liam McMurrich "The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world..." The G-Man's motives are alien and mysterious. Perhaps he intends the people of Earth to act as a distraction so that Gordon might destroy the Combine, a galaxy/dimension-spanning empire, altogether. When he tries to put Gordon back in stasis in between the base game of HL2 and Episode 1; he may be waiting for another opportunity to deal a heavy blow to the combine later, or he might have been moving him to another fight on yet another world.

I can't remember if there were any, but having a scientist or two at least try to fight back with a gun would of been cool to see, even if it's just a skin swap with a guard. Some lore for people who didn't know, The science team were exploring xen before the event, which is how they got the crystals. It's explained a bit more in Blue Shift and OP. I notice you are not using the Blue Shift update(yes it works in source). Which revamped the textures, exchanged the models and guns etc etc. In the original as see here, all the models just had texture mapping, so everything was just painted on like a model kit. Where as with the BSU things like the Scientist's ties and glasses got physical models, same with the Guards armor and the Soldiers. Guns got prettier or swapped out, for example, the pistol in the original is the glock cause it was easy to model being all square and shit, with the upgrade it became the Beretta 92fs. Same with the machine gun, in the original its an MP5, in the BSU replaced with a M16. BTW I didn't see if you mentioned or not that Half life is based off Stephen King's The Mist. In the mist scientists at a government base called the Arrow head Project, are trying to open a "window" to another dimension when a storm fucks shit up causing it to rip open a hole between the dimensions and let the lovecraftian monsters out. Halflife is that from the point of view from one of the scientists.

In Half-Life 2 they lowered the shotgun ammo to around 30 or so, yes. But then it didn't matter because they gave ammo to you in absolutely every place they could because it was the most consistently performing weapon outside of very specific combat situations and made every pick up worth 20 shells anyway. I went out of my way not to use the shotgun when I didn't feel like it, which was often, but still ended up using it more than any other weapon for convenience sake, and in fact due to the ubiquity of the ammunition which they needn't have bothered to cap anyway.
