Hi Linda, We were out an about on our travels on Monday, armed with our National Trust cards, That video will arrive in the next few weeks, but for now I am working on tomorrows video which will be another National Trust property from the south of England. Phil, thanks so much. Glad you like what we do. A bit of a mixed bag, a bit of near and far, but hopefully something a little different. Thanks again, Gary & Janis

Hello Friends, another of your beautiful, but a surprisingly short video.Decades ago, a fellow historian and friend, living close to Chippenham, walked me around this delightful village, knew quite a few residents, so consequently we spend a fair old time inside a number of buildings investigating the interior timber structures, some of which dated back ( if I recall correctly ) to the 12th/13th Century !!!!! It does indeed retain many of it`s medieval features, and in my experience was not so carpet bombed by tourists :) Anyway, another of your fine gems - thank you :)

Thank you sir. I kept this one short because there will be a separate video on the Abbey, and I didn't want the village to get lost in that. I use the Historic England website to check on the history of the buildings we come across, and it is amazing how many external structures encase an earlier dwelling. As you mention, some buildings, like the Hunting lodge at 3:46, date from the 12th/13th Century. As far as I remember, there is nothing 20th century or later in the village. Thanks as always, Kind regards, Gary & Janis

@@OurWorldForYou Oh yes, my goodness. I have always been a bit of a bibliophile, both for study and pleasure, consulting authors of British History that are recognized and reliable - so books always come first, but I do consult various websites such as The Bodleian Library, the British Library, British Archives and so forth, from time to time. In the early days of the WWW, as a tutor, I often had to advise new undergrads, freshers, not to place too much dependency on the web, as information was often unreliable and misleading. Things have improved a great deal over the years, but in certain areas of research, one should still be a bit circumspect and fact check, just to be sure :) All good :)

Absolutely, fact-checking is so important because when I create these videos, that's it; it's locked in, and I cannot change the audio after the event. That's why my videos take so long. A 5-minute video can take two days to prepare, script and record. The editing bit is simple, okay, with some challenges, but the real work goes into the narration. I would like to improve the workflow so it doesn't take so long, but I have to ensure I am accurate. Kind regards, Gary & Janis

That's what I think of when I think of a quintessential English village.

Thanks Robert, It's well preserved and lacks the trappings of modern life. The village shop is sympathetic, rather than a generic convenience store. Remove the cars, and you could have travelled back in time. Wonderful place. Thanks, as always for the comment. Cheers, Gary & Janis
