AN EXCELLENT TOUR OF THE ABBEY. IT'S TWENTY YEARS SINCE I VISITED IT, AND IT LOOKS GREATLY RESTORED, FOR THE BETTER. IMPRESSIVE, AND UNIQUE.

Hello my friends, and, once again, a wonderful, interesting and informative video tour of this remarkable building. My friend and fellow medieval historian, sadly since passed away, knew the history of the abbey intimately, but was, as I recall dismissive of the ' gothic ' additions - but they have also now become part of the abbey history !!!! I hope you will agree, the more original aspects of the abbey, especially the cloisters are so much more appealing, and indeed, satisfying to spend some time in :) Very well filmed, high quality as always. May I ask, do you use a dedicated camera for these tours. I only ask, as I have been finding that those who are using 4k ( cell phone cameras I think ) are less precise, with a much lower screen resolution, which I tend to find hard on the eyes after a while :( Anyway, splendid and beautiful, and my sincere thanks for all your efforts - well done.

Thank you so much sir; as always, we really appreciate your comments. I would like to watch a timelapse view of those years from the start to the present day, the stuff of science fiction, but to see the origins, the changes and where we are today. I found the 'Gothic' revival intriguing; wat was replaced or lost to create this fashion statement? With regard to shooting, all of the footage is shot by Janis on a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 at 4K and 50fps. This gives us a gimbal stabilised platform for our main footage. At a future point in time, when funds allow, I will change my stills camera (currently a Canon EOS 1dx Mk II) to a Canon EOS R3, or similar, and shoot additional video alongside the stills I currently shoot. Hopefully, this will allow us to improve our content. I then take our raw footage and create our videos with Adobe Creative Clouds app's and downscale to 1080p at 25fps. The reason for this is to allow me to digitally crop, track in, and track out shots. One of the aspects I enjoy about creating these KZbin videos is the process of constantly learning from the technical, creative, historical and cultural aspects of a shoot. I hope that answers your questions; if you have any more, please let me know; I am more than happy to share. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. I hope that New Zealand spring is starting to kick in. We have been hit by a heavy-duty autumn after the summer of heatwaves & hosepipe bans. Best wishes, Gary & Janis

@@OurWorldForYou Thank you Gary and Janis, for your comprehensive reply to my question regarding your camera equipment of choice !!!. Unfortunately, in that regard, I have the knowledge of a newt - but have always been impressed with the high quality of your videos. To watch your videos, I am on a high end Mac desktop, large cinema screen, with a massive amount of processing power and enormous screen resolution. Sharp image capabilities were essential for my past work, processing large volume digital scanning to obtain forensic information on a number of conservation projects - medieval manuscripts and so forth. Consequently, as mentioned, I do find the rather pixelated videos that are being uploaded ( 4K and so on ) very tiring on the eyes - and with the technical capabilities of modern cameras, I am at a loss to understand why this is so, but can only assume people are using cell phone cameras, which do have significant technical limitations :( As someone who is now terminally marooned, far, far away, I will always appreciate the wonderful places you visit, affording me many wonderful memories of such places as Lacock Abbey, thank you. New Zealand is in Spring, but Winter tends to linger, and it has been an exceptionally wet Winter at that, floods in many places. I thought Oxfordshire was a rather wet place to live, but New Zealand, as a country, has it well beat :( Take care Gary, Janis, and will catch up with you anon :)

🤣🤣🤣 - I often find myself guilty of information overload. I know once I complete my render and upload to KZbin it goes through another cycle of compression, but I am glad that it doesn't damage the experience too much. Hopefully, we are off to Flanders next week, to three historic Belgium cities, so something different to come in the following weeks & months. Thanks again for the comment, Take care, Gary & Janis

@@OurWorldForYou Oh I say, there is absolutely nothing wrong with enthusiasm :) Guilty of that myself you know, boring people with all things medieval - but then again, my eyelids begin to flutter at the mere mention of rugby ha ha !!! Hope you have an enjoyable holiday in Belgium - interested in that, as my fathers family were Belgian Jews, almost the whole family murdered by the Nazis, but that is another story - and not one I tend to share too often :( Catch up with you anon !!!!

The story of your family history mustn't be lost, the story of the holocaust must remain front and centre for a more tolerant world. It concerns me that we are living in a repeat of 1937/38 with Vladamir Putin on a path which could take us to a very dark point in our history, with parallels to be drawn between the annexation of the Sudetenland and the southeast of the Ukraine. I hope that the failings of Russia's war lead us to a different outcome. This is why, fundamentally, history is so important, there are lessons to be learnt. Now that's me off my high horse, and I need to get on with my next video.
