Visiting Tatooine again is repetitive, yes, but returning to Tatooine in ROTJ fulfills a checkbox in the "hero's journey" formula, where the hero returns home after the adventure, but is now wise, skilled and experienced. As for Coruscant, I agree it would have been a much cooler setting - but probably very difficult to pull off in 1983. I imagine it would look similar to Blade Runner. I feel like the main problem with ROTJ is not so much the overall story structure, but it really mostly just comes down to the aggressive blandness of Endor as a setting. It's like this boring forest in California, and they spend SO much time there. It also doesn't help that once they get captured by the Ewoks, the movie just completely slows to a crawl. The small Imperial base with the shield generator is also visually boring. Something more like the larger base in Rogue One would have been nice. Plus, throughout the entire fight on Endor, it always feels like Han, Leia and Chewie are the ONLY rebels there, since the camera barely ever shows any other Rebel fighters doing anything. We don't see any other rebels get killed or anything. I think if the whole Endor sequence could have been trimmed down, streamlined, and made visually more interesting, the movie would really be elevated. (Also replace Ewoks with Wookies, obviously.)

Coruscant was in RotJ earlier drafts. Having the rebel ground battle in Coruscant's Forest Moon were the Ewoks reside and The rebels ware going to infiltrate and set up two cannons to shot at the TWO shield generators of the TWO Death Stars and The assult would be in space as the final version. The Luke vs. Vader figth would be in the emperor's castle on the other Moon of Coruscant that was similar to Mustafar form RotS but that was on earlier drafts

eh, I think you are using the heros journey in a letter of the law sort of way instead of spirit or essence. He goes back to tatooine, sure, but hes not going to his home or facing it thematicly. Jabba is really a new character, hes not going back to the farmers and mosture farms and jawa peddlers. If anything, its closer to mos eisli, hive of scum and villiany, which is really the begin of the unknown thematically speaking. this strange place ben guides him through.

But the Tatooine in ROTJ is not about Luke, it is about Han. I would suggest a sequence where Luke visits Obi-Wan's hut or at least Uncle Ben's and Aunt Beru's. The only thing that fulfills hero's joourney is: Luke : There's nothing to see. I used to live here, you know. Han Solo : You're going to die here, you know. Convenient. That's very bad writing.

What's interesting about this is that some of your ideas were actually already in the original script for Return of the Jedi. The final battle was going to take place on Coruscant, including the throne room scene. This is why the final movie keeps referring to Endor as a "sanctuary moon", because it was originally a forest-planet that orbited the city-planet of Coruscant. I also like the flashbacks idea. If we had that, Vader's face reveal would have had more of an impact, as we would see the face of the man in the flashbacks when Vader takes off his mask.

This was quite well done and enjoyable to watch. Many of the changes would be much better but we can't make them. I was recently thinking of how Return of the Jedi could be fixed but only in the edit. The main change would be everything that happens on the Forest Moon of Endor. Everything would be color graded to look like it is night time. Decrease the exposure, add a blue tint and a couple of effects for light sources like fire and lasers. This would make Forest Moon of Endor seem less friendly, the Ewoks are hidden in the dark and who try to eat out heroes. This would mainly help when the scenes cut from the rebels to Luke in the throne room. It is always jarring to go from the dark dramatic throne room with Vader to a overly bright forest with campy teddy bears. Simply making the forest look like night would hide the tonal changes from scene to scene a lot as well as making it more enjoyable for the viewer. It's hard on the eyes to cut back in forth from a dark scene to a very bright scene. Lastly this change would also make more sense for trying to deactivate the shields. In the movie the rebels arrive on the Forest Moon of Endor during the day and spend the night with the Ewoks then the next day they try to sneak into the base. This is stupid and makes no sense. Why would they do this in broad day light, sneaking in at night is the logical approach. This could save the movie and it requires no re-shoots, (which are impossible) a good colorist could get the job done. George already changed so much to the OT, why not change some more but actually for the better this time. What do you think of this? I already color graded a few screen shots of the movie and it looks much better. I just don't have the skills or time to do all the scene on the Forest Moon of Endor. Hopefully some fan does this like The Phantom Edit or I'll do it a few years down the line.

Wow, this is awesome! I have always been underwhelmed by Return of the Jedi and I would make a few big changes. One would be too replace the second Death Star with something else (maybe a series of small space stations?) that the rebellion found out that the emperor is living on one overseeing an important project. When the rebellion tries to attack them in space, a Super Star Destroyer and a fleet of other Star Destroyers could appear, allowing Ackbarr's "it's a trap" moment. Boba Fett should be involved in the final battle and survive the confrontation at the Sarlacc Pit, but I would keep the first act mostly the same, however, I would change Luke's plan a little so it made more sense. Finally, I would replace the Ewoks with Wookiees on Endor and in the final battle, they are actually taking out stormtroopers in pretty violent ways, not just throwing rocks on them. I'm thinking a call back to A New Hope with a Wookiee ripping a troopers arm off, the rebels hiding in trees taking out soldiers, walkers getting infultrated by small groups of Wookiees, etc. I also think we should explain the empire is there to oversee the gathering of slaves (the Wookiees) and this would give backstory to Chewbacca as well explaining that he was a former slave, but escaped and lived on the streets for his life. This would also explain why he didn't want to put on the handcuffs in A New Hope. The rebels would be on the ground to try and distract the imperial forces, while the capital ships come out of hyperspace to attack the space stations under the elemnt of surprise. (even though they are actually falling into a trap) These are just my ideas, but I do really like in particular the idea of the final battle being set in Coruscant. Good video!

Thinking about it more, this would be my full synopsis for how I’d want to see this improved version go down. The opening crawl mentions that Luke and Leia have obsessively been pushing to save han and have finally gone to do it against orders. The film opens on a way shorter version of the Jabba rescue plot on a different planet from tattoine. The plan would be simplified significantly so not everyone has to get captured. The thermal detonator scene with Leia happens here to set up something later. Luke would be shown to be more aggressive and doubtful of himself coming off of empire, playing into his arc to reject violence by the end. The rankor and sarlack sequences happened unchanged. There would be a scene of Lando and Han reconciling. Boba Fett is mentioned but isn’t there. Luke does not have a lightsabre during this sequence. They return to the rendezvous of the rebellion only to find the fleet in shambles, they lost big time without Luke’s piloting and Leia’s leadership. They all feel guilty, especially Han. They step up to lead the rebellion, after some pessimism Leia shows her leadership and gives a pep talk, they come up with a plan to cut the head off the snake and initiate a coop. The plan is two fold, first incapacitate the military by raiding the military hq and taking hostage the top generals of the empire. Second take out the corrasant defence fleet and make sure they can’t radio for help. It is noted that they don’t have enough troops to do a land invasion of the imperial hq, then Han and Chewie suggest liberating wookie slaves who would happily join their cause on the neighbouring world Endor/ kayshek, which would make it feasible to get an army there in time. This can work in chewy’s backstory as a freed slave: The plan is agreed to and Luke is all for helping out but Han and Leia tell him he would be a lot more helpful as a fully fledged Jedi and encourage him to go back and finish his training, Luke is hesitant because of his shame and lineage and resentment over being lied to, but eventually agrees. They agree to rendezvous in time for the promised day of the invasion of corrasant in 6 months. Act two would now begin in earnest. Luke will return to Yoda humbling himself, Yoda will be happy that Luke found himself back from the pathway of pride but laments that there is no longer enough time for him to complete the training, since he is dying of illness/ old age. Regardless they resolve to do as much training as they are able in the time. Months would pass in montage as we get scenes of Luke making his sabre, learning jedi philosophy, struggling to let go of his anger and mastering the force. We’d get the usual “certain point of view” talk too after Yoda finally dies in his sleep when Luke tries to wake him for the next days training. I’m not sure if I want to keep Leia being Luke’s sister or not tbh. During all this we’ve had cuts between the training and chewy, han, Lando; Leia and 3p0 liberating the wookie slaves on kayshek/ Endor. They would have many similar scenes to the Endor we know but in the end they will be able to recruit enough Wookiee’s to their cause for the plan. When they return to the rebel base a ticking clock will be put on the plan, as an imperial broadcast will announce that in response to the liberation of the Wookiee’s (which they would spin as a terror attack), they will start genociding random rebel friendly planets, if the rebels aren’t handed over in the next couple days or something. This will make the coop plan more urgent. After Luke mourns yoda’s death and finishes preparing himself, he rendezvous with the rebels. If Leia is still Luke’s sister, they will have their conversation here, right before the battle. Han will also let Lando borrow the falcon. Han and Leia are going to smuggle the wookie army into the capital to overrun imperial army hq, in the hopes of capturing important generals and forcing a surrender. (Han has contacts). Lando and co will be fighting the planetary defence system in an all out assault/ last stand in order to distract the fleet, covering the ground forces. However they get caught in a trap as many more star destroyers warp in out of no where to prevent their hit and run tactics. Luke will decide that he must confront Vader and the emperor. He goes on a mission to infiltrate the palace he gets captured after some action with the guards and his story plays out beat for beat identically to George’s version. The exception is that The emperor now shows luke the rebels dying on a view screen instead of out the window. Also the Sith are named check to frame the battle as the ultimate end between good and evil, Jedi and Sith, with Palpatine wanting to show that the dark side is natural and inevitable by turning Luke and finally wiping out the Jedi. I’m not sure how Vader would defeat Palpatine/ why there would be a bottomless pit in the palace but I’m sure those kinds of details would work out. Han, Leia, 3p0 and the Wookiee’s are able to overrun the imperial military hq after a boss fight with boba Fett. Fett is beaten by a thermal detonator being thrown back or something. After both the emperor and the generals are beaten the fleet is forced to stand down and Lando and co win the battle. The Leia and Han romance happens as usual. There is a speech by Leia to a cheering crowd as a new republic is proclaimed. There is a funeral for Vader, a galaxy wide celebration, the heroes meet up and hug as the force ghosts look on.

Lucas (when 'TESB' was released in 1980) planned nine SW films. Who 'The Other' would be was to be revealed in the three sequel films (7 to 9). It would be Luke's sister, but she was to be a new character. After the toll the first 3 films took on Lucas, he shelved films 1 to 3 and 7 to 9. This meant he had to wrap up 'The Other' in 'ROTJ' and only Leia was remotely a believable candidate. Vader was to die and the Emperor was to survive in the original 9 film outline, becoming the main villain of the sequels. If Lucas hadn't killed of Ben Kenobi in 'ANH' then there never would have been a Yoda. Lucas had to improvise a great deal over the course of the six films.

As I remember, Episodes 1-3 needed way more visual effects than even ILM could do at the time, hence why they weren't done until technology had caught up to his vision. As for 7-9, fans never really heard much about what they were supposed to entail, until relatively recently. That whole "Vader was supposed to die and Palpatine supposed to live.... that's new to me, and I was in the Fan Club back when it formed. Apart of killing off Han Solo, what is the most missed opportunity in ROTJ is the Luke's confrontation with Obi-Wan and Yoda about the fact the Vader is his father. This tension is held from the previous episode but when they finally meet it evaporates into nothingness. Yoda just die confirming it and Luke is like OK, then Obi-Wan says it was a certain point of view. Gosh, If Obi-Wan uneasily admitted that he didn't tell the truth, because he didn't completely trust Luke wouldnt be following Vader and Luke was like "You used me to kill my own father!" and just jumped into his X-wing, it would raise the tension by clouding not just sencerity of the whole Jedi business motivation but whether will Luke follow his father or if he kills him.

There are definitely some good things in here. I thought as a kid that Return of the Jedi was perfect. But I am seeing some plot points as an adult I don’t agree with. Now I personally like a deep movie enrouted with psychology and character development, more so than just action. I do like your idea to kill off the entire rebellion early on. Keeping a similar Vibe. I would have Luke sneak off the cruiser in An imperial shuttle stolen by the Rebels with the droids. He’d head towards Sullust, for Jabba’s Palace. Leia would stay there to not draw attention to their plan. I would then have had many Tie Fighters fly in and try to shoot the head ship. It is locked by a bubble shield. Things can come out but not come in, just for plot armor really. The ties being fought by fighters including someone else, wedge maybe, in Red 5. Maybe just a pleb rebel. A Plebel. I just thought it’d be cool to have someone take over Luke’s signature fighter. Many of the other ships including to smaller cargo ships, were destroyed. I would put in that space battle there because you have to have one in Star Wars and I don’t really know where else to put it. Then the super star destroyer would come out of hyperspace. I would then have less of a bombardment. And more of an invasion, by the empire. Vader would quickly take control of the ship. He would show massive control by choking everyone in the briefing room in the ship (except Leia who hid). He wanted Luke. His booming voice could be heard from all over the ship. He knows Skywalker is here and will kill everyone aboard, one at a time until he reveals himself and comes with him to the emperor. Leia heard the necks snap for four Rebels before revealing herself. The sounds of choking and bones breaking would haunt her maybe for the rest of her life. Leia tells Vader that Luke is gone. She will gladly come prisoner again if he spares the rest on the ship. Vader realizes she could be potentially more valuable in luring out Luke. He agrees. They drive off and still bomb the ships. (You’d think she’d learn from Alderaan to not help Vader out. At least the first time she could lie.) On the ship, Vader could sense the bottling rage in her. Vader could sense something more. The force connection between Luke and Leia on cloud city opened something in her. Darth Vader continued to taunt her with Alderaan. She begin to clench her fists. 2 stormtroopers lifted in the air and smash into the walls, falling dead. She was shocked. She’d seen this in Luke but not like this. Vader said Luke is no longer valuable to them. Leia would commune to Luke that the resistance is gone, but would leave out what just happened. Lando would wait until Luke arrived to sneak in and release Han while everyone’s focus was on him. They’d be sent to the Sarlacc Pit after Luke killed the rancor. Lando would also be forced to jump after him freeing Han. Han wouldn’t be sacrificed to the Sarlacc. He’d stay by Boba to watch his friends die. Han whispered to Boba that if he helps him get rid of Jabba, and he will help him take over the underworld as will Chewbacca. So Han and Chewy would be bounty hunters not Smugglers. Boba tells him he is too slimy and can’t be trusted. Han said that as slimy as he may be he is a man of his word. Boba would temporarily become a protagonist as he moved his blaster away froms chest and shot Jabba without even looking and instantly killing him like he did to Bib in Mandalorian. He sat in the chair and said that he taking over and if anyone has a problem, this rocket will kill everyone on the barge, himself included. They all dropped their weapons. Han gave Boba a look, raising an eyebrow and smirking. “Bring them in.” Boba said. Then most of this story would be Boba bringing them to rally a bounty syndicate to combat the empire. Luke would venture alone to Corasaunt. Having someone look over the city and be an agent on the inside to notify defenses and such would help. It makes sense for Luke to go, because he is the least involved with the crime world and because he might be the best bet at finding Leia. Luke knows not to go into an imperial quarters alone, even though his skill and proficiency in the force has increased. He’d fly the Rebels stolen imperial shuttle through defenses and lands on an unoccupied area. He’d find civilians in an underground area in the lower levels which in canon we know belongs to scum and the poor. Luke would meet seemingly almost a homeless shelter. Civilians lay around campfires and seem scared but also in a weird way, content. Luke learns they are from Alderaan. The seeming leader is Bail Organa, Leias adopted father. Luke sleeps the night among these people. He dreamed about Dagobah. About Yoda. About Ben. In his dream he mentioned he was back to finish his training as promised. Yoda says that he doesn’t require more training. Luke was confused. Obi Wan explained that he confronted his father. They had to reflect on their claims he was basically being stupid in the previous movie. They realized letting people fall into danger for promise of greater power, was selfish. Luke, while not ready, fought his problems head on. This is what a Jedi should do. They explained they are sorry for withholding the identity of his father. He wasn’t ready to hear it. But Obi Wan then told Luke to not underestimate the Emperor. Or his Father. And that he must face them, and free his sister. “Leia? Leia is my sister?” He asked but also at the same time stated it, if that is a thing. Darth Vader tortured Leia. He began to train her in the force. When she was ready, he gave her her very own lightsaber. But it wasn’t just any lightsaber. It was the Skywalker lightsaber. He must have found it on cloud city and have his troops recover it. She ignited it. It now glows red. Showing it now has been touched by Vader, instead of Anakin. She began to spar. At certain points when she gained the upper hand, she’d smile, pleased. Darth Vader looked at her, noticing something about her. A similarity to someone he used to know. So at this point I have explained most of the plot. Alderaan forces would take the places of Ewoks on ground battle. Mostly with sharpened spears, and pitchforks. But maybe also blasters. I like they idea of them growing Spears and javelins more. Maybe bows and arrows. I don’t know. Bounty hunters and Han Chewy and Lando took sky battle. Millennium Falcon and Slave 1 tag teaming with some other ships definitely would be cool against Star destroyers. Luke would use the ground battle as a distraction to get into the palace. In the Hallway of the palace, Luke would meet Darth Vader alone. That’s where the “I have accepted one truth. That you were once Anakin Skywalker” dialogue. Vader and Luke would walk through the palace into an elevator bring them far below the planets crust. Into the core. The emperor resided there with Leia. She wasn’t a slave though. She was a dark side acolyte. For amusement and to see the superior Skywalker, Palpatine forces Leia to duel Luke. Luke must defend himself. “I will not fight you, sister.” “Sister?!” Leia asked. Luke explained. “So be it then, brother.” The twins continued to fight. Palpatine decided to shoot Lightning at them, to spice up the fight. It was caught by Anakin’s blade. Not Vader’s. He stopped shooting Lightning. Palpatine Cackled. He lunged towards Vader, pulling the saber from his apprentice’s hand. Anakin pulled another saber from behind his waste and blocking the strike. Obi-Wans saber. Anakin and Palpatine fight. “Go my children! Leave this place!” The rumbling of raw force energy caused it to collapse, allowing the lava to steadily rise and exploDe soon. The twins got out with Leia turning back good with their father sacrificing himself. The day was won! Han and Chewy were men of their words and went to work for Boba.Luke restarted the Jedi. Leia restarted the senate. The end.

As someone who is distant from their father I have always been able to relate to the character of Luke. I would have liked to have seen more interaction between Anakin/Vader and Luke when they first meet. It could have been an opportunity for Luke to get in Vader’s head, Hey, tell me about my mother. Or express some anger for his father abandoning him. Or sadness that he missed out on having that relationship. If you remember Luke had this idealized version of his father from A New Hope. We could have returned to that and added some extra depth to the character

You're obliviously an indoctrinated retard. You should’ve dropped out of college or film school and self educated himself. Clearly college made him an indoctrinated retard who has no idea what he’s talking about. If he had dropped out and self educated himself he would be intelligent just you (Kraemer) and me. Return of The Jedi is best Star Wars and has no flaws. Ewoks are fucking awesome and bad ass. Empire Strikes Back is great but massively overrated. Empire Strikes Back is not perfect. Here are the flaws in Empire Strikes Back that hold it back: The Asteroid sequence is boring. The movie can be a bit too slow at times. It needed more action. The movie is very uneventful and feels like a setup movie rather than focusing on what’s going on currently in the moment and feels very inconsequential. If you watched A New Hope and skipped to Return of The Jedi you wouldn’t miss a thing. The lightsaber fight is a huge improvement but it’s very predictable. Even when I was a kid I knew Luke was going to get his ass kicked. The “Luke I Am Your Father” moment is awesome but it’s only five seconds and besides it’s not even confirmed that Darth Vader is Luke’s Dad anyways which makes it inconsequential. It’s confirmed in Return of The Jedi. C-3PO getting broken apart and Chewbacca carrying C-3PO in a net than putting him back together is cringey felt very out of place in that movie and was WAY too goofy for my liking. Here are the retarded misinformed dogmatic criticisms against Return of The Jedi: The rescue at Jabba's Palace was not pointless! Luke provided C-3PO And R2-D2 as "a gift" to distract Jabba and keep him occupied. The original plan to rescue Han Solo was for Leia, Chewie, and Lando to rescue Han from Jabba's Palace, that didn't work and backfired. Luke Skywalker (now a Jedi Knight) had to go rescue Han as back plan. A Plan B if you will, which somewhat backfired. Plan C if you will was to escape and destroy Jabba The Hunt and rescue Han getting them off the sail barge. Plan C was the one the work. It's called backup plans. Sorry if the movie didn't spoon feed it to you and that you had to use your head. I also like the idea of the second Death Star. I mean the United States rebuilt The World Trade Center after 9/11. Should the United States have not rebuilt The World Trade Center after 9/11? The the United States rebuilt Pearl Harbor. Should the United States have not rebuilt Pearl Harbor? Also, The United States had two wars In Iraq (1991 during George H.W. Bush's presidency and 2002 during Georg W. Bush's presidency), so why can't there be another Death Star II. We had two world wars, World War I and World War II. So is that any different from stopping the death star again. Besides it's more exciting in A New Hope and Like I've said they've showed different parts of the Death Star that weren't explored in the first film, and Land does is the one that blows it up this time and it's not Luke. So to call it repetitive? actually watch the god damn movie next time. Also if you compare blowing up the Death Star In A New Hope and Blowing up the Death Star in Return of The Jedi the United States having two World Wars, two wars In Iraq, and rebuilding the Death Star to rebuilding the world Trade Center after 9/11 and Pearl Harbor getting rebuilt you'll see that the second Death Star is not that far-fetched. No it is not a repeat of A New Hope nor is it far fetched. They show us different locations of the second Death Star that we didn't see in a New Hope and they got to a different place to blow up the death star. So when you say that all it does is copy A New Hope actually watch the god damn movie next time. Not too mention the Second Death Star looks WAY cooler and more menacing. Also Darth Vader's did not abandon fully abandon his goal to turn Luke to the dark side so they could rule the galaxy "as father and son" before his redemption. First of all why would he say that in front of the Emperor. If Darth Vader was serious about that goal he would have kept it a secret. So of course he's not going to say it in front of him. He only abandoned it when he was redeemed. So those schmucks who call that plot hole clearly were missing the point or just looking for something to bitch about. The lightsaber fight in TESB was awesome but it was very predictable. It’s cool to see Darth Vader school Luke but it really wasn’t much of a contest. Which really takes away the intensity. In ROTJ Luke and Darth Vader are equally matched making the stakes higher then the duel in TESB. ROTJ has the best lightsaber fight not just in the OT but the entire franchise. It’s almost the most realistic in the franchise. Unlike the fights in ANH (Original Version of the Duel), the ST and the most of the PT fights it actually looks Luke and Darth Vader are actually fighting. Not stiff like the ANH (Original version), or the ST fights and not over the top and ridiculous like most of the PT fights. I like Luke and Leia being brother and sister. I just can’t buy Mark Hamill and Carrie Fischer as siblings and I can’t but them as a couple. Mara Jade was a better match for Luke (Who I like more then Leia. Even though I still like Leia). I can totally buy Harrison Ford and Carrie Fischer as a couple. Also Luke obviously didn’t have much experience in TESB so he couldn’t sense that Leia was his sister. Luke and Leia obviously didn’t know that siblings. Had they been aware and if Luke had more experience with the force, they wouldn’t have kissed. Also Leia kissed Luke on the cheek so what's the big deal and people have blown it way out of proportion. Even if it wasn't on the cheek, she fell in love with Han anyways and learned to like Luke as friend anyways. People just love to find things to bitch about don't they? I like the Ewoks. Ewoks are like Honey Badgers, Wolverines, Chimpanzees and Baboons. If Honey Badgers, Wolverines, Chimpanzees and Baboons kill armed Human beings then Ewoks can kill Stormtroopers! Also having Wookies would be boring. And also having Ewoks defeat them is much more interesting then Wookies defeating them. Also an Wookies don’t stand a chance against the Empire and the Empire would be better prepared to defeat the Rebellion. Having the Empire underestimate the Ewoks fits into “Overconfidence being someone’s downfall. Also Velociraptors In Jurassic Park are small and they can kill armed humans. So what’s the problem here? As much as I love Wookies but Wookies would be boring and uncreative. Ewoks were at least more creative. Besides it's been established that Chewbacca was the last of his kind so Wookies wouldn't have made logical sense. Also the Ewoks were inspired by the Vietcong during the Vietnam war and how the Vietcong defeated a military that had far more advanced weapons despite that. But Ewok haters probably didn't know that because they didn't do their homework. Watch this video on the Ewoks and it's a perfect defense: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqOxgKp5od6amqs Also I love the tone. It has the lighthearted tone of ANH and the darkness of TESB and it balances them perfectly which not easy to do (Looking at you Eddie's Murphy's Haunted Mansion (2003), Cabin In The Woods you overrated piece of shit and Toy Story 3 (2010), another overrated piece of shit). For those calling it tonally inconsistent is utter bullshit. Wanna know tonally inconsistent? Go watch Eddie Murphy's Shitty Haunted Mansion Movie (2003), The overrated shitty Cabin In The Woods (2012), the overrated shitty Toy Story 3 (2010) or the overrated piece of shits known as Avengers Infinity War & Endgame (2018-2019). Those movie are the literal text-book definition of tonally inconsistent. Hell even Empire Strikes Back, a movie I love but a bit overrated can be tonally inconsistent with C-3PO getting broken apart and Chewbacca carrying C-3PO in a net than putting him back together felt very out of place in that movie. That's tonally inconsistent for ya. I KNOW this because I'm self educated. Not an indoctrinated retarded teacher's like you and Cosmonaut Variety Retard. You were born intellectually inferior and you'll die intellectually inferior. I'm smarter and better than you. Therefore I'm intellectually superior. Just admit it!

My own attitude about 'ROTJ' is that I've been waiting since 1983 for a proper conclusion to the original trilogy. As well as the second Death Star and the Ewoks, I don't like the pantomime-style Emperor. I preferred the version in 'TESB' (the original Clive Reville voiced one). A villain who wasn't so obviously EVIL, but more like a corrupted wizard as played by Christopher Lee in 'The Lord Of The Rings'. Someone who was evil within, but not a disfigured/heckling-witch-voiced/cloaked/in your face EVIL villain. And Lucas' original outline for 'ROTJ' did center on the Imperial home world (then known as Hadabadden), with two Death Stars being constructed in orbit and Leia leading an infiltration team to a forest moon of Hadabadden (and not going to Tatooine).
@empirestate87912 жыл бұрын
I'd make return of the jedi an immediate sequel to the empire strikes back, taking place just a few days afterwards. We could see the rebel alliance gathering thsir various cells from across the galaxy for an assault on coruscant in the wake of their recent defeat on hoth, and Luke's experience with his father would be fresh in his mind. The empire would be greatly weakened from it's position in A New Hope due to constant rebel activity, and the alliance could be gearing up for a final strike to put an end to the war once and for all. The scene on tatooine would be shortened and not include leia in her skimpy outfit, and the ewoks would be replaced with coruscant residents standing up to the empire (could make for some equally humorous scenes). I like the idea of luke questioning his confidence throughout the movie in the wake of his defeat at the hands of vader - he would eventually overcome it after the mission on tatooine, his continued training with Yoda, and finally the confrontation on coruscant. The movie's tone can still be light, with plenty of humor, but it will be balanced with drama in the form of Luke's character development and Vader's flashbacks.
@fasillimerick739410 ай бұрын
I love the idea of the setting being Coruscant for the setting. I can imagine _Saving Private Ryan_ style, street by street, urban warfare. That, combined with aerial dogfighting. However, even if the technology existed in the 80's, I don't think 20th Century Fox would be willing to pay for it. No matter what, _Jedi_ was going to make money faster than they could count it, but a high production cost would just soak up profits.

I would have included a scene of Luke asking Vader about his mother. Its brought up the only time in the trilogy between Luke and Leia and never mentioned again.

This is a great rewrite! I too think that Jedi was easily the weakest of the original trilogy, with it's flaws being quite easy to iron out, but you've proven that a complete overhaul could make it way better. I personally disagree with needing to eliminate the prequel trilogy's reason to exist, since they could also benefit from a story overhaul, but Luke's visions of Vader's past as a Jedi would do a good job showing their similarities in a more straight-forward way, so great work!

In earlier drafts the Forest Moon of Endor was supposed to be the sanctuary moon of Coruscant the last bit of nature from Coruscant preserved on its moon. In the film there’s even a line of dialogue with Palpatine calling the “sanctuary moon.” I think this was scrapped over concerns about not being able to depict Coruscant satisfyingly.

Congratulations! You fixed it, while keeping all the big set pieces (Jabba, Yoda, speeder chase, end battle, Luke's temptation, and Vader's redemption). I especially like how you'd have Anakin's story told in flashbacks---flashbacks that forward the story. This is essentially how 'Avatar the Last Airbender' used flashbacks. When Prince Zucco learns the true story of his grandfather (in the S3 episode "The Avatar and the Firelord"), it alters the direction he'll take for the rest of the series. Also, Aang didn't complete his training at the end of S2, and had to deal with the awful consequences in S3. In many ways, I feel like ATLA got right what 'Return of the Jedi' got wrong (story-wise).
@FalconNest4 ай бұрын
The missing thing in ROTJ was Marcia Lucas, who had probably given up on George at this point. To make things worse, the direction and photography are really bad: Marquand and Hume lacked the right vision for Star Wars and their clashing with George made the film look extra bland, esp. on Endor.

i had most of the story drawn as a comic by 1982 (as well as a 6th grader could ) based on preview images, Bantha Tracks and the preview figures. there was a much bigger fight on the surface of Endor and I mistook the Ewoks for friendly Jawas so there are a bunch in there that help Leia , Luke and Lando sneak into Jabba's palace and rescue Han. i wish i had kept it.

Luke needs to return to Yoda immediately after leaving Bespin to complete his training & confirm that Darth Vader is indeed his father. There we get so see his journey to becoming a full Jedi with the flashback/visions of Anakin's journey. During these months, Leia & Lando are working to get permission to save Han. When Luke has completed his training, he rejoins his friends and then your scenario of them going rogue to save Han, battle on Coruscant, etc. as you laid out.

I agree with a lot of points in this, although I'll say that from a 1983 perspective, having a return trip to Tattooine and a second Death Star didn't feel quite so unnecessary. There was almost no way for a regular person to watch the original Star Wars at that time, so revisiting some of that iconography was, I think, a more natural thing to do, and that style of repetition I believe was more common at that time. I was only seven years old, but I was totally into it lol

In this video, ROTJ would be turned into a Space-War movie, where the overall plot is the Rebel attack on Coruscant (or Abaddon, as George originally called it), with the Luke/Vader/Emperor duel thrown in and the Han Solo rescue thrown in, and the Han rescue taking place on Sullust of all places, a barren obsidian world of lava streams. While I agree that Return of the Jedi needs some major changes, and I would agree with planet/setting changes as well, there are some problems or opportunities I see with your chosen settings. One of the best things that The Rogue Squadron Series pointed out is that the Empire is so vast and huge at the time of ROTJ that it all couldn't be conquered in just one battle, or series of battles. It had to be conquered over time. So we go from the rag tag Rebel fleet that we see at the end of ESB to conquering Coruscant in such a little time frame? In ROTJ, the Emperor leaves Coruscant to go to some remote place (Endor) to try to lure out the rebels and see firsthand this mighty Sith-inspired creation known as the 2nd Death Star; perhaps he missed his chance to personally visit the first one and wanted to make darn sure he got to see this one. But he's lured out of his natural throne room and in a makeshift copy, girders and pits and all, and much less secure than the one on Coruscant. This makes him (and he well knows this) a natural target for the rebels or Luke to strike. And this is his plan. Instead of chasing after Luke and the rebels like they did in Empire, the Emperor will let them come to him, and on his terms. With that said, it couldn't realistically happen on Coruscant and all take place in one movie. We would have to have the Emperor go to some other location that would seem to be advantageous to him, both militarily and serving his own ends. My recommendation: the Czerka asteroid mining facility, taken over by the Emperor in the Unknown Regions of space. A fleet is posted here, on call by the Emperor (and the rebel fleet walk right into the trap, but they end up winning when Luke and Anakin prevail against the Emperor). Asteroids were well established in ESB, and we would find out why the Emperor chose this specific location in the movie (reveal), which would set up a future story beyond the events of ROTJ instead of everything concluding with this movie (and finding ourselves having to make up what we think would logically happen next, such as the New Republic, new Jedi Order, etc, etc).. Why Sullust? Is Sullust even on a Spice hyperspace route? Jabba chose Tatooine because of the planet's strategic location, being on the Spice hyperspace route. Or otherwise, he may not have even left Nal Hutta or stayed on Nal Hutta's largest moon, Nar Shaddaa, in which the Hutts used to deal directly with off-worlders. Jabba would be on Tatooine, or any other planet, to capitalize on it in some way, either to bring him more power, influence or fortune. Greed and pleasure where two of Jabba's great vices, and he was more than tempted by obtaining more power as well. Tatooine at least is a logical choice, even if we've seen it before. But if not Tatooine, what other planets would serve Jabba's ambitions just as well? My recommendation: Ryloth. Instead of Tatooine, put Jabba's stronghold on Ryloth, the harsh, rocky homeworld of the Twi'leks (Bib Fortuna's race), located on the Corellian Run route and the Death Wind Corridor as well as the hyperspace Spice route. There, Jabba not only got a hand in the Spice trade, but he took advantage of the slave trade as well, and it would give him a window of opportunity on the Death Wind Corridor. Additionally, it gives us (the audience) a new visual "rock type" planet to look at as far as cinematography, granted that Jabba's hide out would be hidden among the Misty Mountains.. With the changes to the Emperor and Vader being on the asteroid Czerka (and we'll find out why), and the first part of the movie being a Heist movie where they rescue Han from Jabba at Ryloth, there will be a lot of rocky places within this movie. But the space battle is more of a backdrop, even though it is the overarching story. The real story is the Heist, where Lando, Chewbacca, Leia (disguised as Boushh), Luke and the droids go to Ryloth to rescue Han's carbomite block from Jabba's rock palace. Boushh distracts Jabba with the thermal detonator while Luke and Lando steal Han's carbonite block. But when Boushh gets away, Jabba finds out about the theft of Han, and then all chaos breaks loose and Boushh is on the run on a dark passage back to the Millennium Falcon, where Luke and Lando have already secured Han's carbonite block. So, Luke makes his entrance and takes a stand with his green lightsaber and Jedi skills, allowing Boushh to get away and back to the Falcon, and then he is able to elude Jabba's criminal gang as well, also escaping on the Falcon. Jabba is still alive here, but enraged, and orders his entire criminal gang after Luke, the Boushh imposter, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando. Luke has the idea to escape temporarily to Degobah before rejoining the rebel fleet, so that they can get all of the Bounty Hunters off their tail for a little while. Meanwhile on the Falcon, Leia takes off the Boushh disguise and sets off the carbonite block to release Han. Luke and Chewbacca pilot the Falcon to Dagobah while Han is released from the carbonite block. At Degobah, Yoda gives Han some of his stew and everybody finds out that Luke is the son of Darth Vader at the same time. Yoda doesn't die, but ends up leaving his solitude on Dagobah by leaving with them on the Millennium Falcon. Obi-Wan makes an appearance, and Yoda is convinced that his solitude is over after everyone sees the holoimage of Mon Mothma, communicated to them via a secure channel from the rebel fleet, diagramming their plans of attack in the Czerka sector. Han, Leia, Luke, Lando and Yoda all assent via holoimage that they will be joining in on the attack, and Mon Mothma is greatly encouraged by Yoda's presence, being still alive and joining the battle. (part 1)
@miragewizard2 жыл бұрын
(part 2) Return of the Jedi is really a tale of two traps: one that is personal in which Luke and company walk right in on at Tatooine, and one on a grander scale with the success of the Rebel Alliance hanging in the balance in a huge space battle. In both cases, the rebels succeed in ways that the 'trap setters' never envision, regardless of how attuned they are in the force. For Leia, it is a tale of two disguises: Boushh and an Imperial officer in disguise, instead of Boushh, and then Jabba's slave, and then Endor regalia. When they arrive on Dagobah and meet Yoda, there is a fuller scene with Han, Chewie, Leia, Luke, Lando, the droids and the force ghost Obi-Wan Kenobi all interacting with Yoda. Yoda gives just-unfrozen Han Solo some of his soup. This is where everyone learns that Darth Vader is Luke’s father, after Luke asks Yoda. Leia says, “Your father!” Yoda confirms it, and Obi-Wan explains it. Chewie seems to know Yoda, but Lando stays close to Han. R2 chirps and C3PO is mostly quiet. The mystery of “the other” that Yoda spoke of in ESB is kept vague - to be explained later. Yoda simply says that not all of the Jedi were destroyed by the Emperor and some were able to escape. After these revelations, Leia and the droids receive a secret, scrambled holo-image communication from Mon Mothma in the Rebel fleet, and everyone on Dagobah sees it. As Mon Mothma addresses the Rebel fleet in person, her holoimage on Dagobah reveals that Bothan spies have secretly found a way to penetrate the Czerka asteroid mining colony where Darth Vader and the Emperor are currently located. Luke and company accepts the mission and agrees to rendezvous with the rebel fleet just outside of the sector. Yoda leaves Dagobah and goes with them. Once the Millennium Falcon is on Admiral Ackbar's ship, Han, Leia, Luke, Chewie, and R2D2 take a stolen Imperial shuttle to the secret entrance on the Czerka mining colony. Yoda and C3PO join Mon Mothma’s ship with Admiral Ackbar and help to coordinate the huge rebel offensive. Lando and Nien Nunb pilot the Millennium Falcon and spearhead the space battle, which is really a rebel front to allow Luke, Han and Leia to accomplish their missions and to rescue them in the end: Luke, to confront Vader and the Emperor; Leia, Han, R2D2 and Chewie to find out why the Emperor is here, and to knock out the colony's shield generator, if possible. Leia and Han are in Imperial officer disguise. Jabba’s criminal gang, including Boba Fett, have been tipped off to the rebels’ presence just outside the sector, and the chase continues. Once they enter the sector, there is confusion among the Imperials as far as why they are there, and that confusion allows Han, Luke and Leia to land in their Imperial shuttle mostly undetected. But once the bounty hunters get to the massive asteroid itself, Jabba's gang finds Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie, causing them to split up. Leia gets away easily with R2 because no one knows that she was Boushh in disguise and she is able to penetrate the fortress with R2D2 and fake identification. Luke, Han and Chewie are able to thwart the group long enough for them to split up the search, and Jabba's group ends up finding Han and Chewie's trail shortly thereafter. R2D2 and Leia find a huge mainframe computer terminal and learn of the Emperor’s true plans to explore the unknown regions of space. Leia says, “I have a bad feeling about this.” The Rebel fleet then launches their offensive against the Imperial fleet guarding Czerka. Luke is found by Darth Vader. He says, “Luke” to which Luke replies “Father.” Vader then uses the force to close the blast doors to an open corridor to keep them alone for a little bit. He says to Luke, “So, you have accepted the truth.” Luke says, “I’ve accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker..” “That name no longer has any meaning for me..” “It is the name of your true self that you’ve only forgotten. I know that there is still good in you.” After that discussion, Vader opens the doors for the troops to flood in. Vader and Luke head on over to the Emperor’s makeshift throne room area under guard. Han and Chewie end up in a showdown with Boba Fett on a mining platform with heavy equipment. Han, still weak from being in carbonite, is over matched by Fett. Han's character development is complete now, he gives his life to save his friends. Fett gets the best of Han and shoots him. Enraged, Chewie throws Fett off the platform off into a bottomless cliff (his jetpack disabled in the fight). Once Han is dead, the rest of Jabba's gang starts to leave the scene of battle. Leia, with R2's help, finds out the shielding frequency for the shield generator and communicates it to Admiral Ackbar's ship. Wedge Antilles destroys the colony's shield generator from his X-Wing fighter. With the shields down and Yoda and Admiral Ackbar leading the battle, the tide turns in the space battle and the Imperials are suddenly on their heels. Meanwhile, Darth Vader takes Luke to the Emperor. After a bit of banter, a fierce lightsaber duel between Vader and Luke ensues, and Luke successfully turns Vader back to the Light after Vader kills the Emperor by throwing him down a seemingly bottomless exhaust well. During the fight, Vader is searching for Luke, and it is Han's death at the hands of Boba Fett that sets Luke off against Vader (he feels it in the force), not Vader's reveal about Leia. Once the Imperial fleet learns of Vader and the Emperor's demise, they retreat and leave the sector, taking heavy casualties, and reeling from their loss of leadership. The actor David Prowse is Darth Vader unmasked at the end when Luke takes off his mask just before he passes away. Vader dies on Czerka. Luke, Han and Leia travel to Kashyyyk where the Empire has been overthrown and there is a large celebration as the galaxy is now free of the Emperor and Vader’s rule. The Imperial fleet is still at large, though. Chewbacca decides to stay behind on Kashyyyk with his family. The Emperor never shared the trap with Vader. But the Emperor's goal at Czerka (and Leia finds out) was to contact Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was also in the Unknown Regions, and determine if he ever found the lost Katana Fleet.

1. Luke and Leia would not be related. That secret family twist was already done better in the prior sequel. 2. The Death Star would be the same one from the first movie being under reconstruction rather than for some odd reason reduced to space dust. 3. Instead of Ewoks it’s Wookies on Endor so that Chewbacca can have his moment.

I have also always been a bit disappointed by Return of the Jedi's story - after the brilliance of The Empire Strikes Back, "Jedi's" story seemed lazy and somewhat of a let-down. I love your ideas! They create a much deeper and stronger finale to the trilogy. My only concern is that I'm not sure they could have pulled off an impressive Coruscant in 1983. Cloud City looked nice in wide shot Matte paintings and interior corridors but full fledged action/ battle shots within and over the city exterior might have been too much to pull off with early eighties special effects. Then again, in 1982 Blade Runner looked good, so who knows? Thanks for the great video!
@ThePreciseClimber3 жыл бұрын
Thing is, Coruscant wasn't part of the canon until the prequels showed up. So they could've made any sci-fi city they wanted. Then the prequels would've been bound to that location. Blade Runner proved it was possible to make an impressive sci-fi city back then. All they had to do was take that and give it a Star Wars flair. And most of the movie would've focused on the palace with the city mainly serving as background decoration. I'm thinking the palace could've been something massive yet pretty flat. Maybe it could've looked like the symbol of the Galactic Empire (you know, the circle with the sun shape in the middle).

So I’ve always wished the emperor’s final demise happened on corrosant so I’m in complete agreement there. I love the idea of doing a god father part 2 with the the prequels and think that’d be ideal for a novel or tv or heck an anime version, but honestly I think them being their own films is for the best in a movie. I really like the idea of saving Han coming at the cost of the rebel fleet and moving the Jabba confrontation off tattoine, I’d love to see Corellia but your suggestion works too. However I feel like Luke and Leia defying the rebel commanders orders to save Han could/ should be part of the opening crawl, it’s too slow to add a prologue to the prologue. The coup could be plotted after they regroup with what’s left of the rebels. I think some ticking clock is needed to explain why the heroes must succeed in this mission but idk what that could be. I don’t think we need to scrap Endor completely to be honest. It could still tie into what’s going on in corrasant and the space battle just in a different way. Although if you don’t want the ewoks, it could easily be the Wookiee’s home planet instead. I’m shocked you didn’t want to do something with the twist about Leia being Luke’s sister. I always thought that felt a bit forced and made the kissing scenes in 4 and 5 seem a bit cringe worthy. I’d also like to have heard what you’d have done for yoda’s death if he were to die and regarding this like character arc would he actually train with Yoda again? I think it’s interesting. The last thing I’m shocked you didn’t address is Boba Fett. I feel like we could have had a good boss fight for Han and Leia at the end of the film if he was hired to guard the imperial palace or the generator on Endor at the end. Idk why he’s messing around with Jabba after getting his bounty tbh in George’s version. As for other deaths, idk if I’d change anything in all honesty, maybe I’m not cut throat enough but I’d like Luke, Leia and Han to survive. I like the overall structure of this what if, my only concern is it might be a bit bloated but it seems cool. Anyway good video, I’d love to hear you talk about what ifs for the prequels and sequels too. I’ve got quite a few Ideas for those as I think they had potential.

I am going to make an assumption here, so forgive me if I am wrong: you sound young, so I assume you weren't old enough to see Return of the Jedi in the movies in 1983? I was-in fact, a friend wrote a comic book (just for himself, it wasn't published-we were kids) Revenge of the Jedi before the movie came out. There was no internet then, so I can only tell you how the movie made my friends and I feel: we LOVED it. We loved that it was lighter than Ep V. We even loved the Ewoks. I don't believe their taking on the Imperials in the forrest was unrealistic. They had surprise on their side, and even though the scout walkers confounded them at first, they were able to ingeniously set traps for them (the rocks didn't work, but tripping them with logs, smashing them with 2 logs, etc seems feasible) One would think the armour of the stormtroopers would deflect the arrows shot at them, but the rocks, etc would still cause damage (and let's face it, why do the Imps wear armour? It doesn't stop blasters which is what they usually face) I didn't see Tatooine as being repetitive. After all, Han was there when he met Luke, and it seemed to be Jabba's seat of power, so it would be logical to go back there to rescue him. I will grant, maybe seeing the Rebel Fleet at the beginning might have worked, but for me as a kid, seeing Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar refuse to rescue Han would have made them "bad guys" in my book (For instance, as a kid, I thought the captain of Excelsor in Star Trek III was a bad guy despite what Kirk and co were doing was TOTALLY ILLEGAL). I like the black and white good guy/bad guy of the original movies. It's one reason why I don't like Rogue One. I despised Cassian Andor as soon as he killed the informant in cold blood (I understand why he did, but it wasn't a good guy move) Nor was the Rebels telling Andor to kill Jyn's father I think it was also not feasible for a battle over the capital planet-I'm not sure if 1983 effects could do that well. These are my thoughts on the matter. Thanks for reading them! Sean

To me the big thing was that I never thought Luke was in danger of switching to the dark side. And that's weird because Empire set it up. First, I would have had Vader take off his helmet when Luke turned himself. Vader would have told him he did all that evil for the family. That would have messed Luke up big time . He won't kill space Hitler because they're related. Imagine what Luke would have felt when Vader said he was trying to save Luke's mom. Then when Luke went to the emporer I'd have the Emporer say t, 'They lied to you and sent you to murder your own father. Ohhh, maybe the light side isn't so light. And maybe the dark side isn't so dark. ' That would have also made Luke question everything. But instead we got, 'Sister....' Ew. Also I would have made the ewoks into slave wookies. And yeah the Jabba stuff was stupid.

Lots of great ideas, I think you're correct on many fronts. I will say this: the one cool thing the prequels gave us is the development of Obi-wan. If you've seen scene 38 reimagined, the creators of that understood the weight of Vader and Kenobi meeting again and tied it in very well with audio flashbacks from Revenge of the Sith, as well as depicting a Vader that was not toying with his adversary (as some suggest he was with Luke), but clearly trying to kill him out of pure hatred. How to Fix Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 1. Replace Endor to Kashyyyk, so we can have Wookiees instead of Ewoks 2. Vader's Arrival and Reaching Out to Luke ( Deleted Scene ) 3. Commander Jerjerrod's Conflict ( Deleted Scene ) 4. Rebel Raid on the Bunker ( Extended Deleted Scene ) 5. Fix the dialogue and do the plot points to make sense for the story 6. Death Troopers from Rogue One appeared in the film and should be in the final battle Special Edition Changes that should be included 1. Oola in Rancor Pit 2. Boba Fett with some alien girls 3. Han solo unfrozen with enhanced light effects and orange heat 4. Darth Vader's eyebrows 5. Yub Nub changed into new song 6. The Ending, but remove Naboo

Just to add my thought... I thought the first 20 minutes were GREAT! I loved that Leia was in disguise and was the one who freed Solo. As a 9-year-old... I was totally fooled by that twist! But... after that-- starting with Leia immediately getting caught by a totally un-fooled and prepared Jabba-- I was a bit underwhelmed. By the time Luke showed up... the whole 'prison break' plan had completely collapsed. I mean, when your jailbreak partner is in a bikini being held on a leash by the warden... perhaps it's time to start drawing up a Plan B. Yet, they just moved on to the next step as if everything was on schedule (which it was... or was it?) Luke-- who's supposed to be this badass 'almost' Jedi--' totally botched his role. So now Leia screwed up; Luke screwed up, everyone's caught and they're all scheduled for execution. And it's from that point... where EVERYTHING works out perfectly! Um... sorry. That's a pretty lame prison break story. "Our entire plan falls apart piece by piece... then we kill everyone and escape???" Nope, sorry. Not a great scene there on Tatooine. I'd give it a 7 out of 10-- which was a first... because, until that point... every scene in the Star Wars franchise was a perfect 10/10. And worse... that was the best part of the movie. So, we get into the story. Apparently, the Death Star is being rebuilt. Okay... we kind of did the whole Death Star thing in New Hope-- but I guess we're going to rehash that plotline. Fine, let's see where this goes. Luke finds out he's got a family member he never knew he had! Um... you mean like how he found out Vader was his father? Not very original. Luke's mentor dies; his friends have to deactivate the shield in order to blow up the Death Star. The Death Star can only be destroyed by shooting it's core reactor. Are you seeing a pattern here? Are we just reliving all the plotlines from the previous films? It's like Lukas ran out of ideas and twists and just started rehashing old ones. That's pretty lazy writing if you ask me. Like everyone else... I could have done without the Ewoks and, while the end fight between Luke, Vadar and the Emperor wasn't horrible... it left me wanting. Not a terrible movie... but not a masterpiece. It was a good standard deviation below what the first 2 films were.

Having grown up on Star Wars in the 70's and 80's I can say with confidence the two weak factors in ROTJ is ONE: The silliness of the Ewoks during the final 30 minutes of the film. TWO: The MAIN distraction in the movie is Mark Hamill's failure to mature as an actor. He was believable in "New Hope" for he simply played a naive, innocent kid (which he was in real life at that time" He fit that role perfectly. Hamill just never matured as an actor hence to accept him as a Jedi Master with wisdom and experience is simply impossible.

Watch this video on the Ewoks and it's a perfect defense: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqOxgKp5od6amqs I KNOW this because I'm self educated. I really LOVE a lot of your ideas and concepts! I especially agree with your idea that it should've ended with a coup. And I agree with the complete removal of the Death Star II and Endor. I agree that the planets should've been a city-planet and a volcanic-planet instead of Endor and Tatooine. Though I think it would make more sense for Jabba to be on the city planet (like a run down city like Nar Shadaa instead of Coruscant). And I think it would make more sense for the Emperor's palace to be on the volcanic planet, like the ORIGINAL concept art for the Emperor's throne room. I heavily disagree with your idea for the flashbacks though. That's really my only complaint with this video. My favorite part of this video is how you changed Luke, and actually gave him character development.

I agree that the whole first act (Han's rescue) being completely disconnected plot-wise from the rest of the movie is a major structural flaw in the writing. Nothing that happens during this sequence effects the rest of the movie (except, of course, for Han being around, obviously). At first glance, it seems really hard to fix this without restructuring the entire movie. But there is a direct link between Jabba and Vader that is conveniently hanging around throughout the whole first act: Boba Fett. Since Vader is presumably still looking for Luke at this point, Luke showing up to rescue Han provides the perfect opportunity for Boba Fett to try and collect on Vader's open bounty for Luke. The challenge would be to figure out how to work this into the existing plot structure. Maybe Boba Fett survives the sail barge battle, then tracks Luke after they leave Tatooine and manages to capture him and deliver him to Vader (instead of having Luke just turn himself in). That way the events of Han's rescue directly lead into the ending confrontation with Vader and the Emperor.

Producer Gary Kurtz and a bunch of Lucas' friends, including Spielberg and Coppola, came up with a darker and more adult story arc for post Empire. Sadly, Lucas came back into the picture when he felt he was losing control and butted heads with Kurtz for meddling and then Kurtz left the project. The ideas were soooooooooooo much better than anything Lucas could come up with because by this time Lucas was more of a business marketer rather than a filmmaker. That's why the Jedi we ended up felt like it had started becoming more kiddie-friendly and safe... and boring and repetitive and unambitious. Time to pump the merchandising rather than a solid story. The prequels only dug the hole deeper.

The rebels get a holomessage from a Rebel spy saying that the Empire are on Kashyyk they then travel there,hijack an Imperial outpost. Luke is called to a Sith Shrine, he hears Vader breath they have a battle and Luke eventually wins and just when he thinks the war is over a shuttle arrives, The Emperor walks out,whips out his lightsaber and Palpatine wins he electrecoutes Luke,Vader stabs Palpatine and dies. end the film the same way except with wookies instead of ewoks. Luke flies to Dagobah to tell Yoda that the Empire is gone but Yoda dies before Luke can tell him. Luke turns around and sees the ghosts of Anakin,Ben and Yoda.

I really only believe in getting rid of the ewoks and putting back the wookies. The issue with your version is that it puts the heroes and rebels in too strong a position to be able to attack the capitol. It would be too strongly defended and would mean the rebels were winning. Empire left the viewers with the impression that the Empire was on the advance. The second death star was used as a trap to lure the rebellion into battle but mainly because the Emperor would be there. That was key to victory. Kill the emperor. The movie was about the trap and over confidence of the emperor that lead to his doom. Doing it at the seat of the Empire would not lure out the rebels. The first part of the movie foreshadows things to come. Plans upon plans and how things don't go according to plan. To me it works especially in hind sight. I was always troubled when I first saw it but later appreciate it more, except for those ewoks. Wookies and their enslavement would brought out how evil the Empire truly was. And perhaps a bit more could been done with that. A wookie rebellion on both the planet and the death star might been nice addition. Something like that would have enhanced the movie and maybe even given chewy a role to play.

Why don’t you do your fucking research. Ewoks are like Honey Badgers, Wolverines, and Baboons. If Honey Badgers, Wolverines, and Baboons kill armed Human beings then Ewoks can kill Stormtroopers! Also people complain about the second Death Star. I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s like saying let’s not rebuild the World Trade Center because of 9/11. And we still rebuilt the World Trade Center after 9/11. So is building a second Death Star that far fetched. Also George Lucas did not write nor direct Return of The Jedi. It was directed by Richard Marquand and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay. (At one point Stephen Spielberg was supposed to direct ROTJ but had to drop out). Also George Lucas didn’t want Ewoks, he wanted Wookies instead. Lawerence Kasdan came up with the idea of Ewoks. George Lucas didn’t want Luke and Leia to be siblings. That was Lawrence Kasdan’s idea. Yeah I like that Luke and Leia are siblings. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fischer have excellent chemistry as brother and sister and have ZERO chemistry as a couple. I’ve always wanted Han to get together with Leia because of their chemistry. Also Luke needing more “character development” in this film would make the movie boring and drag on. Also we already had that in Empire. And if you really wanted more character development then go read Shadows of The Empire. I have a hot take for ya. ROTJ > ANH & TESB. Don’t get me wrong I love TESB and it’s my second favorite Star Wars movie, however I don’t think it’s perfect and it’s a bit overrated. While I love the romance between Han and Leia it definitely can be a drag at times and I wanted more scenes with Yoda training Luke which was more interesting to me. ANH while a great movie but it’s my least favorite of the OT. The acting is the weakest and the lightsaber duel sucks. Listen if you think ROTJ needs a rewrite that’s fine. Nothing I say is going to change your mind. BTW, while I hate the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy (sequel trilogy is even worse). However I think they have potential to be great which is why I’m doing a rewrite for both the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy.

Wow. You have some really great ideas. What I do not understand is how, with millions of dollars at stake, the writers of the prequel/sequels had it so wrong. A couple more points: Luke turns out to be right in ending his training early. That is, he saved the day - then apologizes later for it. My only other thought is that the chemistry in the later films did not match that of the original three - as well as the dearth of character development and just plain fun. However, overtaking the heart of the 'Werhmacht', the hub of the Empire, is a phenomenal idea. Yet, with such a small band, could it be (realistically) done?

Fans: the Ewoks don't belong in Star Wars because they're way too silly. George: You ain't seen nothin' yet!

The best parts of the film are Jabba's Palace, Luke battling Jabba's henchmen, Luke battling Vader, the fall of the Empire. But the reviewer has a point. 1. A second Death Star is silly. 2. Too many scenes of those goofy Ewoks! (there was an Ewok tv series and two Ewok films so technically George did already make Star Ears sequels early on (if only Star Wars spinoffs). 3. Han Solo and Lando Calrissian are given not much to do in the film.. 4. I always found it a really silly plot device of Lando given the promotion of general! What!!!?? In the previous film Lando was just some con artist-smuggler-shady-under that table betrayer and somehow the rebels give him a general ship?!

6 months? I’m pretty sure it was a year time skip between TESB and ROTJ. The flashbacks would be cool, but that would be adding too much to the movie and make it too convoluted. Also that note make the prequels better, somehow. I remember that one draft had Wookiees instead of Ewoks, which would have been much cooler. I can see Bigfoot Sasquatch’s beating troopers than primitive teddy bears.

6 months? Try one year between Empire and Jedi.

I like your pitch for the most part, but the “visions” Luke receives of his father would have to be done right. I’m not sure how to fit those in. It’s entirely conceivable that, after the revelation in ESB, Luke would undertake a journey to learn about Anakin’s past. That could actually be a movie unto itself. While at the scene of an important event in his father’s life, he could be struck by one of those visions. Hmmm. Tricky. It’d be easy to make the mistake of telling rather than showing.

The Ewoks and Rebels taking down the Empire directly reference the viet Cong overpowering the US military during Vietnam because they knew the landscape better. It's purposeful and it has real world history to back it up.

Yes! You just proved why this and many ROTJ rewrites and ROTJ critics/TESB groupies are retards.
