Thanks for the video, I picked up some tips to improve my flying in the TBM. Little trick I found on the other hand, you can just push the 'S' button on the standby instrument to go to 29.92.

Honestly, if you are doing it right, you'll nearly never need it. And worst case, you will see expenses on maintenance, and that's all. (States is indicated). The worst I had, was this battery thing. I simply went to repair, and pressed the "recharge battery", which cost me actually less then the GPU, and its faster and hassle free 🤣 Other thing. I crashed once. The plane is then kinda totaled. You have to simply create a new airframe. I used my old call sign again, worked well :) I found a limit with this aircraft though, but I think it's more X-Plane's G1000 which is buggy. I made a flight yesterday from Dusseldorf (EDDL) to Thromso (ENTC), and I assume there was to much waypoints in the FPL, as adding new once would not show up in the list, but be there on the map, and followed by the AP. Annoying though...

i bought the TBM. But i think i still prefer the Panthera. the TBM guzzles framerates, but it has a cruise speed about 50 knt faster than the Panthera. it has Synthetic Vision, but the Panthera has the Garmin 750 with touch screen for all MFDs. pound for pound, the Panthera is the best plane, imo. and MUCH easier to use.

if its a PDF chart. you can use AVI TAB to open it. avitab acts as a efb tablet you can mount on your yoke in the 900.

You don’t feather the propeller by moving the power lever into the taxi range. This is the beta range of the propeller, which is a flat pitch condition. There’s a difference.

The only thing I find disappointing about the Hot Start TBM 900 is the AoA indicator. I find that it is almost useless right up until the flare and sometimes not even then.

This is an excellent video. Thanks, I just bought the TBM-850 and after realizing the G1000 issues bought the TBM-900 and as I am new to X-Plane 11 I am trying to consume every bit of literature and watch every video and this is by far one of the best. I am still struggling with the FLC as sometimes I don't think it is working and quickly run to the VS for both ascending and descending when flying with ATC. Can you perhaps do a video on FLC? Thanks

FLC will use pitch to maintain speed. So if you're going 150 and FLC is set to 120, it will pitch up to slow down. If you're going 120 and FLC is set to 150, it will pitch down to speed up. You control power. So you use the power lever to control how fast you climb or descend.

Tim Morgan Thanks. I pretty much understand the process while in flight. But, when you configured the autopilot preflight @ 22:30 you turned on FD, set runway heading and armed AP and set to Nav. Then you presses FLC and set climb speed to 124K. I can see you increase the speed on the PDF from 94kts to 124kts but that is where I am struggling. I don’t hear the RPMs increase so I didn’t think you used the throttle to change this and for the life of me I can’t figure out how you changed it. Thanks again I really appreciate your help.

Funny. I just got to page 95 of the manual for the laminar research G1000 and it says to use the nose down button. I would have never guessed.

@@freefallindz I used the vertical speed knob to change the target speed for FLC. FLC does not involve the power lever at all -- again, it uses PITCH to capture the airspeed you dial in. And as a side note, increasing the power lever will not change RPMs -- the TBM will maintain a constant 2000 RPM at cruise power settings. Changing the power lever will adjust Ng, the gas generator speed, therefore altering torque.

I had a very stupid question I can't nowhere, not even in the POH or online. What is the Pulse light used for, and why not simply use landing light only instead. Is there a specific procedure for using it ? Thanks in advance :) By the way, found a bug with the G1000, and having to much waypoints. Made a flight from EDDL to ENTC, and after the last airway, I could only add one waypoint. Adding more would show up on the map and be followed by the AP, but not show up on the FPL list. This was my route : EDDL MEVE3T.MEVEL MEVEL Y850 BASUM M170 ELSOB N125 EKERN M852 ALS P615 NEDZA P601 AMOXA VEVOD SOMUB Z101 GUBAV Z201 PENNO ATWEG ENTC (Thromso - ENTC - has by the way no procedures surprisingly, although I have Navi graph... ILS worked found though, and it's actually why I wanted to enter the waypoints manually, switching to VFR was complicated with the clouds not very high during the decent.

The pulse light is just more noticeable because it flashes rather than burns steady. You typically use the pulse mode during takeoff, climb, cruise, and all other phases of flight where you want your airplane to be noticeable. You use the landing light for landing, especially at night, where the flashing can be distracting and runway visibility is more important.

I don't know if this was already asked, but how are you moving the throttle through all it's positions? I don't see a mouse cursor or a VR controller. Now I have X-Plane 11 so is that the difference? The only way I can move the throttle lever is with my mouse. I know this is an older video but I hope some one still sees this question.

Also what do you recommend as a game controller and should I use something like X-Box or a different system? I want to start doing things like you have here but dont have a clue as to what to buy. If you want to do exactly what I did in the video… You'll need a gaming PC and a copy of X-Plane. You'll need to buy the Hot Start! TBM900. The scenery is Forkboy's Ortho, that's free. You'll want a yoke, throttle set, and pedals (such as made by Saitek or CH Products). Total cost will be about $500 assuming you already have a gaming PC. If you don't, you'll need a PC with at least an i7 and RTX 2060 or so. There are no high quality flight sims for console, though Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is coming and will be for Xbox as well as PC. But PC is the best way to use a yoke/throttle/pedals for realism.

Rookie Budget Fishing track IR or FreeTrack. Tim, It looked like you got camera shake even in trackIR whereas I lose all sense of plane movement (so I used camera views in XP11). Is there a trick to that?

I might have asked a question the wrong way I’m talking about an arc on the map itself basically example if I wanted to drop by 1200 ft./min. it would have an arc on a map to let me know when I would reach that altitude at that vertical speed like they have in Boeing’s.

@@PowerAirSimulations Oh, I misunderstood what you meant. What you're referring to is generally called the "green banana." The TBM just uses the built-in G1000 provided by X-Plane. You can read the G1000 manual included with X-Plane to learn about its features. It does not include a green banana.

I don't mind it going real-time (fast) since we can just pause the video, but agree, it would be nice to have highlighted the specific points in the cockpit you were referencing. I eventually found them, but having them pointed out would be easier. That being said, I have been doing flight sim since Sublogic days and never posted a video of my own - so thank you for taking the time to do this. You really did a nice job of providing extra details that I have not seen mentioned elsewhere. Thanks again!

The TBM8 and TBM7 series use steam gauges … but I find them more complicated, actually. The electronics in the TBM9 allow things like automatic pressurization control, automatic fuel control, etc.

@@riscfuture I just watched the whole video. Hugely entertaining, thank you! What I couldn’t shake was most of the flight was just messing with the G1000 and fulfilling checklists. Even the takeoff - hugely shaky until you’re of the ground and then *ping* autopilot. I’ve been flying my Comanche 250 from A2A. That one has hand operated flaps, no GPS, and the autopilot is about as basic as it gets (but hugely reliable), and you have to set the trim manually. If your engine gets hot enrich the mixture. I’m really not sure if all these electronics are worth it in the end, because I feel like you lose connection with reality.
