Edge Tamers are one of the greatest additions for your bucket. I have also used them when working with gravel. When you have a pile of gravel delivered in your driveway getting the last bits gathered up without digging into the existing gravel can be a challenge. With the Edge Tamers you can lower the bucket and scoop up the last inch of stones without disturbing the driveway. Also - did you get a set of Edge Extenders? When I bought my Edge Tamers the Edge Extenders were only $10 and they have paid for themselves 100X over. They fasten to the Edge Extender and make them into a set of mini-forks. Sure, I also have a real set of forks but many times when I am clearing storm damage I will have big tree limbs along with piles of smaller debris. I throw on the Edge Extenders and I can lay the big limbs across the extenders while filling the bucket with the loose debris. It makes it very easy to haul everything back to the brush pile. I have carried 30 ft tree sections on the Edge Extenders. The Edge Tamers + Edge Extenders are an extremely useful combo.

Best KZbin channel for small tractor owners. I'm a new 1025r owner here in Floyd County, Virginia. We're a bit higher in elevation and get a couple of good snows a year and have been looking forward to using the bucket this winter. I've got both paved and gravel driveways on my property and was a bit worried about the bucket digging into them. Just ordered a pair of Edge Tamers. Look to be a cost effective solution. Retired the snow shovel for a snow-blower. Now may be retiring the snow blower. Thanks for the discount, Tim!

A year ago I bought a 1984 John Deere 430 Diesel Garden tractor and restored the entire thing. It is a beast! I cut 35 trees out of a fence line and almost none of the trees fell because it was so thick in the canopy and they dropped on the stump. I hooked a chain to the bottom and pulled them each off the stump and drug the entire tree up to where I store firewood. Some trees were 10+ inches and the 1182 lb tractor didn't grunt and only needed to use the diff lock a few times! I plan to build a FEL for it but for now I built a snow plow. I built it because everything I found that would fit was very expensive and needed to be rebuilt or a thousand miles away. Along with the expense I needed a $300 frame extension because the 430 has a longer front end. I copied the frame and built a piece out of 1/4" plate to extend the frame and bolted it to the frame then bought a plow blade with feet off the internet. After duplicating the hitch point It works like a charm up down left right except when I put it in float mode it digs in wont move. The harder I push the springs finally let go and the blade slams down flat on the concrete. After watching this, unless anyone knows of another way I am going to use quarter inch plate UNDER the plow edge and weld tabs matching the blade angle to the plate, take out two bolts on the blade edge and bolt them on under the plow like skis! We'll see how that works. If anyone knows of something out there please let me know.

Just ordered my 3" set for the 1025R (with extenders , just in case I don't have my forks handy). R2 did a nice job designing some simple add-ons that address a practical need. I like supporting these types of small innovative companies, like R2 and Ken's Bolt on Hooks. Thanks Tim and crew for continuing to show us neat things to make our tractors more useful around the homestead. Not to mention a very handy TTWT discount code.

Skip the cheap alternative on Amazon (about half the price). It's welds are junk, particularly on the nut that holds the bolt and some have had it fail the first time they used it. This product is much better constructed, wish I had them years ago. Plus now it's 2022 (over 5 years after you made this video) and the price has barely increased and your coupon code is still good! I built one that goes all the way across the front of the bucket and works perfect with snow. its amazing how fast the metal wears when plowing pavement and or concrete driveways. mine dont work so well on gravel or grass but I mainly built it to prevent wear from hard road surfaces not so much for gravel or grass control.

as a welder I made a set of them for my tractors as well as many other contractors of 20 years ago, but I use a different way of it fastening to the bucket then the bolt like that as the first thing that will happen to that bolt is get bent an brake off by a big rock if solid ice, it will happen. @TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
+James Gaves II sounds fun. Could make a PTO blower I guess. Will be interesting to hear if the edge tamers make the job easier. I'm pretty sure they will help with picking up piles. Maybe you won't have to blow such bit piles with this approach. Often a tool isn't perfect by itself, but when used with other tools, it can really help!

I used my Johnny 1025r last year for the first time to push the leaves. It worked great. My mower (Skagg 61'' with clamshell grass/leaf catcher) fills up quick. it's fine for small jobs . But a pile of leaves needs to go out to the pasture. Too many trips and Too far to travel.

I love your videos and just placed my order with R2 for 2 Edge Tamers. I also have a JD 1025R (but no backhoe :( ) and after seeing how the bucket picked up leaves I had to have these. We have a large yard with about 8 large cottonwoods and they make a real mess in the fall. I thought about getting a leaf vac but they are a bit too pricy for me and to use for maybe 2 days in the fall then store for 363 days I just couldn't justify it. My lawn sweeper works okay but this looks like more fun, I'll let you know how it works in a couple of months. I also like the ability to scoop up gravel/dirt without digging up grass. I have about 6 yards of gravel to move that is in a pile on the lawn. Up in Green Bay we get a lot of snow and for snow removal I have a 54" snow blower for my 1025R that works great. Can't wait to try these Edge Tamers out.

I absolutely love my edge tamers and I actually ordered a third one recently just to have a spare in the rare possibility I broke one or lost it in the snow. I also bought the extenders which can pick up small pallets and such but have to move the edge tamers further in to do it.

I have a question.. My bucket is not being installed until this coming spring. And I elected not not get a snowblade until then because I got a package deal together saving quite a bit of money.. Thus for this winter, I have to use the rear blade for plowing.. I bought a used one for $100 (they have another 6 blades in great shape too for $200-$250) on the lot. Anyhow, the one problem with a rear blade is they obviously are harder to control for plowing snow since they are not really made for that.. Do you know of any or have any ideas on adding skid shoes to a rear blade? I have been searching all over but all that I find are made for blades that pretty much already have the slots or are designed to add them.. This blade is basically just one solid blade but it is fully adjustable not just in angle or front and back, but fully side to side.. I have it set to stick out the right rear versus staying centered.. BUT if I could find some type of blade skid shoes for the thing, it would make this a whole lot easier to snow plow with and not dig up my drive...
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I know of only one idea. You can cut a slit in a piece of pvc pipe...for the full width of your blade. Slide that pipe over your cutting edge. Then, your blade will slide along on the surface without cutting in. Make sense? I'm not sure how well it will work, but i hear folks talking about it frequently.
@Malakie7 жыл бұрын
aha! That's a great idea... I wish I had the tools to work metal because I would make some for these kind of blades and sell them! LOL It is shocking that no one does to be honest. Once I have my front blade, I will be able to plow twice the width since this rear one allows me to adjust it side to side like that. Thanks for the tip though.. Gonna run and get some now as it is gonna snow here tomorrow.. LOL

I may have to take you up on the TTWT this fall! Have you done a video on the straight cutting edge on the bucket? My front edge is wearing down on my 45 loader

I have a question, I’ve been watching Tractor time with time before I bought my 1025 R back in November. I have about 13 hours on in, I boyought the front mower deck attachments for It. When trying to re-attach the mower deck on the the tractor it slid cross ways and got stuck under the tractor and now it just slides when the tractor moves forward and back. I can’t seem to get it un-stuck. Is there an East way up unlodge the mower deck?

Tim, do you think those would work on uneven ground? For example: trying to level an open area that was full of mounds and potholes.
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
+Drew6709 not sure, Drew. If my area was really unlevel for snow, I would buy an extra one for the middle of the bucket. They are inexpensive, so give them a try and let us know (with pictures!)

Man, wish I would have seen this before I spent the last 4 days clearing piles of hay off the grass for 3 acres! Also would have been nice to know about the float option. Might have scalped the grass a few times lol. Great video again Tim. What size Edge Tamer were you using in the video?
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
+lordkamakazi 3 inch. Get yourself a set so that you'll be prepared for next time!

Do you have to have holes drilled in your bucket to install these?
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
No. I think I showed the installation pretty well in the video. It just squeezes itself against the base of the bucket. Seems to stay nicely attached
@chriscorie20016 жыл бұрын
Would it be beneficial to add a hole?

No. No need.

I would like to see this work in loose stone. Not sure how well it would work but like the idea.
@eosjoe5657 жыл бұрын
It works perfectly on loose stone. I have a gravel driveway and had 25 tons of new gravel delivered. It's easy to scoop as long as the pile is big but once it gets down it is hard to scoop up the new stone without digging up the existing driveway. By attaching the Edge Tamers I was able to scoop up the remaining gravel without digging in.

Forgive me if I missed it, but is there something between the bottom of the bolt and the bucket? So the bolts won't dig into the metal/paint of the bucket.
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
+Lucky13 Farm there is an optional washer. The bolt will dig in a bit, but not much.

I just bought my 2 three inches edge tamers for my new 1025R today. Even from Canada, I used your famous coupon code TTWT and... it worked! I will receive them soon I believe! Thank for all your work (I mean... the whole family...)! Very GOOD service at R2 manufacturing! I usually speek french and Rob was very patient talking to me with my "french" accent to make my order possible and I thank him very much for that! Can't stand to try them out! :-)

Is there a video out there with the edge tamners working on a gravel driveway with snow removal
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
There will be if it ever snows here. Well, we don't have gravel driveway, but I'll run it across my back yard. Meanwhile, the many positive comments here should be helpful to you.

I know your going to get sick of me commenting on your channel. With that being said I have been watching your show for a long time. I have heard you talk about the " finance committee ". I loved your tractor so I wanted one. There was no way I would be able to spend the 19k on one. So I started looking for a used tractor. I was able to find a 1026R with less then 100 hrs on it. It has a loader forks rock box I picked up for 11k then found a 60D auto connect deck on tractor house for less then 2k. It looks new. They go 3500 new. So for less then 13k I have a sweet tractor. I picked up a king kutter grader blade for plowing snow from fleet farm. You should do a show on talking about finding a good used tractors they are out there.

Can you backdrag with these on at all?
@TractorTimewithTim4 жыл бұрын
Not very well. You have to use the ‘back side’ of the bucket to do so.
@lh984 жыл бұрын
I tried these on grass with down pressure and it ripped up the grass. Even no down pressure on uneven grass it (the tamer) ripped it up. Tried on asphalt during snow and it left a thick pad of slippery snow/ice. Had to scape it down with the bucket afterwards. I realize they would work better on gravel driveways which I haven't tried yet but so far they have been a waste of $ to me. Tried across the yard full of leaves but again the tamer tore the lawn in places. Maybe helpful in some situations but so far collecting dust now.
@TractorTimewithTim4 жыл бұрын
Ok. Did you try the grassy area WITHOUT the Edge Tamers? At least for me, I can do much better on grass with the tamers than without. I can run in float on level grass without any getting ripped up. Of course if there is a hump between the tamers, it will hit. Anyway, seems to be much easier WITH the tamers than without. Just my experience.
