It was nice to watch you paint. For how comfortable you are painting with oil I would like to recommend something to try. Using odorless mineral spirits to make your own custom oil washes which can be rubbed out for blending might improve upon the technique you're already using. Tamiya makes pointed style cotton swabs for ultra fine detailing, but a napkin or qtip works well too. Be warned about the odorless spirits as they are not entirely odorless although they don't seem to give me the migraines I get from other solvents; finger nail polish is the worst! Using oils allows from some amazing blending. I would love to see how your skills progress with oils.

@Cernunnnos3 жыл бұрын
Looks awesome. You're really killing it with the dry blend on the oils. I always just use them as washes, thick or runny. You sort of negative highlight with them that way, instead of like blending out lighter paint you selectively remove the wash with a clean brush with mineral spirits. Sort of erases the shadows. Then go over it with acrylics for highlighting. If you're that comfortable with dry blending them, I'd say you should try them as washes for the shadow areas and the stuff like metal leg that you used acrylic/ink washes on. You can mix some crazy colour combinations that change the hue of the shadows. You can get some cool colour transitions that I think add a little. You can get arist grade mineral spirits that are non toxic and don't have a chemical odor. I use Pebeo. Might have to try dry blending my highlights next though. That smooth, organic finish is something I never really get.
@OrionsBeltMinis3 жыл бұрын
So much goodness in this comment! I will look into what you said about trying them as washes. I’ve been wanting to try that more and more. Someone also said that windsor & Newton make water-soluble oils (not sure how that’s possible lol) but that could also work as a non-toxic substitute. Much to try 😊 thank you for watching!
@Cernunnnos3 жыл бұрын
@@OrionsBeltMinis water soluble oils is interesting, though yea, not sure how those would work. No worries, your works great! Definitely give washing them a try though, you won't go back to acrylic/ink washes. You've got so much more control with oils.

To be specific I’ve used it one time and it was an awful experience and I’ve never picked it up again 🤣 I re-potted them shortly after buying them to avoid them drying out!
