While I prefer 3, I still love New Vegas. It absolutely has the better sense of humor over 3 and definitely 4. I always felt while 3 was a silly satire of 50s culture, New Vegas was a loving parody. Also there is an entire in game faction that is comprised entirely of Elvis impersonators and that is just amazing.

Pro Stories, this post is typical of the internet (and youtube particularly) where the person is convinced they have a monopoly on the 'truth', whatever that is. It sometimes makes me feel tired, but I will engage with your point nonetheless. No doubt for some the story and structures of those original games still has some unique quality which they feel has been lost. But it is often similar to parents/aunts/uncles (and I've done this) explaining to a younger generation about the virtues of a style of music of which they have no experience, and do not 'get'. I would still look back for example on Final Fantasy Ten with affection as 'my' Final Fantasy, while for others even earlier versions are 'theirs'. But I seriously doubt I would want to grind through level after level of antiquated monster combat in order to experience that again. Games have moved on, like music, and its necessary to acknowledge that.

Johnny: I'm gonna use console commands to pick the locks! 1 hour later, gets stuck on a cliff and forgets that you can use no clip command in the console to pass through things. One of my fav games ever, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, the setting and even the DLC's are fantastic. The story converges nicely and you can choose plenty of outcomes.

Mjoll the Lioness is one of my favourite companions in Skyrim :-D Her constant retelling of life stories is no more annoying than any of the others. What's most entertaining about her is that her story is all about opposing the Thieves' Guild, but her ingame morality setting makes her a great companion _while you do the Thieves' Guild quest chain_ since she's perfectly fine with you stealing stuff right in front of her. She doesn't even bat an eye when you enter the Guild hideout.

New Vegas is without a doubt the best Fallout. Bethesda's fallout games are always very narrow and linear no matter how you play them and they always take away from the "RPG" aspects by developing a main character for you. By giving you a father in 3 and straight up making you a set character in 4 they really ruin the "roleplaying" in the "roleplaying game". In 4 your character is very much established and you're not left with much room to develop your own character or story. Your character has a family, a backstory, a profession and a voice that expresses emotions and reactions that maybe you didn't want to have. If you play the male character you're a veteran and the female character is(well, was) a lawyer and you have a goal that is very much set in stone, save your kid. In New Vegas you're just a glorified mailman who got shot in the head and buried in the desert, then you're free to develop your own story and character. New Vegas is an RPG, 3 and 4 are not RPG's. Arbitrary numbers on equipment and levels does not make an RPG an RPG, the ability to roleplay and create your own character is what makes an RPG, an RPG and sadly that is a fact that not many modern players are aware of because the "RPG" term has been twisted beyond recognition.
@iusethisnameformygoogleacc10133 жыл бұрын
The lack of an existing character really isn't what defines a roleplaying game, and the presence of a pre-established character definitely isn't what Bethesda fucked up in their fallout games, I think that's just something people have arrived at while Knowing there was something wrong in that general area and not being able to reason out why; it's the absolute lack of choice, further intensified by the way it's crudely disguised by a Mass Effect Conversation Wheel in Fallout 4. At least in 3 you could say different things, even if the results were usually identical. In 4 you can just say the same thing in three different tones of voice, and maybe sarcastically.

Dunno how you'd fix it but with some of these games (especially a Fallout game, with the radio, musical cues and hearing where the baddies are coming from!) would give you a better idea of how much you'd like them if you could hear the audio, not just having the subtitles. Is it too late to cross my fingers and hope that F76 is a bit more like FNV and slightly less po-faced than F4?
@nightcatarts6 жыл бұрын
They have to turn down the audio to stop the microphones picking it up & ending up with either echo or feedback. They could wear headsets the entire time, but then they'd need to be able to hear one another too, so that'd all have to be piped through the computer & mixed together. I suppose one earbud in could work..
