You mention that this is set in the C5th and yet it appears to be based on the chivalric system from the C12th & C13th. Seems an odd design choice.

King Arthur stories were told in the 13th Century, but the stories are *set* in the 5th Century. The bards and skalds imposed their own 13th Century knowledge upon the 5th Century characters. That's a part of the game.

Echoing John: Rather than fight the fact that the Arthur legend is all over the place, historically, Stafford decided to just take all of the best pieces he wanted to play around with and made them options for the game. As Chaosium continually says: "Your Pendragon Will Vary."
